I like that the NJTP gives you options. You can either drive with the cars only or you can drive with the trucks and buses. You can take the Lincoln tunnel way, or you can take the George Washington bridge way. I love the options. Great Vid!👍🏾

Heading south! Always like crossing the Delaware, north or southbound. That dual span Delaware Memorial Bridge remains a fine piece of engineering.

LOL depending on the time of day in the recording, I could very well be in this video zooming along in the trucks lane from Exit 9 to 8! I watched a few of your videos from your other channel, and I just got this video recommended to me today, and it's pretty cool seeing you drive on a route I regularly use to travel to university daily!

I think this might be the only example of Induced Demand being proven false. They extended the 12 lane configuration south and I dont think ive ever heard of so much as congestion on the newly expanded sections. let alone traffic.
@MileageMikeTravels
@MileageMikeTravels Жыл бұрын
I think a lot of the conversation that I've seen online about induced demand is somewhat misleading. I'll probably make a video at a later date breaking it down.

I was vacationing in the Philadelphia area in 2008, and on the spur of the moment one day, I drove the NJ Turnpike from where the Pennsylvania Turnpike joined all the way into Delaware and Maryland, and I remembered that there were black signs with various traffic conditions in neon lettering. When were these signs taken out?

They were replaced from 2010-2015.

The New Jersey Turnpike's governing board played a huge role in the cancellation of Interstate 95 as a freeway between interstates 287 and 295. I think a lot of people avoid the turnpike for the tolls and opt for the parallel routes of U.S. 01 and U.S. 301
@marcbyrnes293
@marcbyrnes293 4 ай бұрын
I suspect that they may have tried also to keep I 295 from being built in the Philadelphia area, but they obviously did not succeed. 😢🎉 Which may explain the somewhat bizarre sight of the two highways running for umpteen miles across southern New Jersey, virtually in sight of each other.

Nice but how come there are no mile markers on the highway let alone millage based exits.
@shaynestephens
@shaynestephens Жыл бұрын
Back in the late 40's and 50's when the various turnpikes were created, exit numbers were cardinal numbers (1,2,3, etc.). This made collecting tolls easier when you received a "ticket" showing what exit you arrived on the toil road and what the cost will be when you leave the road at a particular exit. Mileage numbered exits were started in the late 60's on the newer interstates. Even today, there are turnpikes and thruways that are STILL numbered cardinally. The northeast and California have been slow to conform. If they don't conform, the US Gov't will withhold federal funding for maintenance. I don't know when the deadline is of if it is being enforced. Toll roads may be exempt.

NJ Turnpike does have mile markers but their signs are smaller than standard and kind of squarish. At 8:12 you can just see the MILE 99 sign (you may have to zoom in).

This road is insane. The average speed is probably 80 mph.plus with no police presence.

Note the control city changes on the southbound Turnpike: From Exit 18 to Exit 16 - Newark. From Exit 15E/W to Exit 8 - Trenton. From Exit 7A to Exit 7 - Philadelphia. From Exit 6 to Exit 5 - Camden. From Exit 4 to the southern terminus of the turnpike - Wilmington. On the northbound Turnpike, there's only one control city: New York City.
@MileageMikeTravels

Yep, gotta pay respect to NYC. It's a control city as far south as Washington DC.

It's nice to see "Philadelphia" used as a control city SB on the mainline Turnpike. Some people out there have been wanting to see Philly on more signage since the I-95 gap was finished a few years ago.

I95 is meant to be a freeway. but New Jersey somehow made it a tollroad and continues to receive federal funding. that's so unethical.

The NJ Turnpike was created before I-95 in 1951; I-95 did not open until 1959. During the planning stages in 1958, the Turnpike was designed as I-95.
