When you have a bunch of these same BMS built into a large set of packs, is there a way to rename them in the app so you know which is which?

JKBMS factory does not give garantee. I buyed 2 JKBMS from factory, at one the display gets dark after 9 Month. the factory requested a video from the dark display. Instead to send me a spare, the answer to the video was only "Great", what a stupid answer. Ofter my new request of the garantee, the factory answers, i can buy a new one. So beware to buy these product and try Open Source instead.

Hi Markus, thanks very much for your comment. A few people said that some of the small screens burn out if they are left on all of the time, and I think the 'always on' setting has been disabled in the app because of this. Hopefully you can find another screen that works for you.... if you do, please let us know.

Thanks for showing the screens available for the bms and for talking about the push button used for turning on the bms. These Chinese BMS-es are notorious for the difficulty of finding out about information like that. I figured out how turn mine on w/o the switch by watching the Offgrid Garage channel and would love to find out how to DIY an off the shelf switch. What I found weird was how non-commital you were about whether you thought the BMS was good or not, like as if you didnt really use it and was afraid of saying so.
@GrantBurton

Hi Joselito, thanks for your comment. Andy from @OffGridGarageAustralia has some good information and a great channel. At the time of making the video, I had only been using the BMS for a short while so wasn’t comfortable with giving my opinion on whether it’s good or bad because it wouldn’t have been an accurate opinion. Some time has gone by since making the video, about 9 months, and both units have been functioning perfectly well, although I don’t pull maximum current through them. Max I have been drawing is around 50 - 60A through each BMS so they not running at full capacity. I’m still happy with my purchase.

Hello thank you for your video! Does it need a cable to communicate with the hybrid inverter ? alex.
@GrantBurton
@GrantBurton Жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, it does have CAN and RS485 comm ports (if you buy the correct model with the CAN port activated). I haven't connected it before but from what I've seen others do, communication is possible to some inverters. I think it's probably best to check out these websites and and try make your way from there. off-grid-garage.com/bms-communication/ and diysolarforum.com/threads/jk-bms-can-bus-comms-now-possible-for-inverters-that-support-goodwe-and-pylontech-batteries.48963/page-13 The info here will be much more accurate than what I will be able to provide. Hope this helps.

Yes, JK is near the top for DIY battery management. JK has a variety of their BMSes that will handle 4S configurations to 25S, this one is for a 8-20S configuration. Wouldn't it be great if they came out with ONE BMS that could handle 4-25S configurations? Then a DIYer could actually experiment with a wider range of options without having to buy multiple different BMSes. Of course, there would still be the option to buy a BMS to suit your amperage needs or balancing characteristics that you desired. But, imagine ONE BMS to accommodate a wider range of cells.
@GrantBurton
@GrantBurton Жыл бұрын
Hi Farside, thanks for your comment. I think for the DIY'ers wanting to experiment, that would be nice, but I also think most people doing DIY builds are building a 'once off' setup (or at least something in the 8s or 16s configuration) so choosing the correct model of BMS would likely suite their needs perfectly. I may be wrong though... haha. As you said though, I actually wanted to experiment (just for a short while) with a 4s pack and would have to buy an additional BMS just for a temporary 4s configuration... in which case a 4s - 20s BMS would be nice... haha.

Think my newish JK BMS for 48 v LiFePO4 setup, w 200 amp / 2 amp active balancing abilities ... is best yet for my needs. Like the 4.3" LCD screen option. Got the smaller LCD for a JK BMS on a 12 v LiFePO4 set trolling motor box. Wonder if anyone know if the little LCD is waterproof, or at least water resistant???

Does JK BMS communicate with growatts SPF 5000es?
@GrantBurton
@GrantBurton Жыл бұрын
Hi, I think it is possible using a program called Solar Assistant (hope I remembered the name correctly) which runs on a Raspberry Pi. If memory serves correct, you’ll have to use a JK BMS RS485 module (small black box) connected to a RS485 USB adapter, then connected to the Pi. I haven’t actually used this software so can’t comment on how well or if it will work, only remember reading about it a couple months ago, but I’m sure a quick google search will yield some results. Let us know what you find?

Hi, I'm not 100% sure but I think you have to contact the seller you purchased the BMS from and they should be able to give you a reset code that needs to be used within a short amount of time after receiving the code (around 20 - 30mins).

Grant, about the scratches on the small screen. It is probable a layer of plastic film there that you have to rip off 😊

@@larsltj Hi Lars, I'm going to have to admit I was wrong... and after reading your second comment, I went and had another look, and didn't pick gently at the corner... actually picked really hard at the corner and guess what, the corner started lifting, so I continued to pull.... and what did I pull off? a piece of protective film. To my defence, when originally recording the video, and before including the section about the screen, I checked both screens and picked at them expecting to find protective film and after picking at them to the point where I though "If I pick any harder, it feels like I'll damage the screen", I concluded there wasn't any protective film. It reminded me of the first Samsung Galaxy Fold, where if you lifted the corner and 'peeled off the protective film', you ended up actually peeling off the top layer of the screen. Even after seeing the video, the store where I got the screen didn't mention anything about there being screen protector that needed to be removed. I guess at the end of the day it's a win 😁👍 for everybody. Thanks for bringing this up.
@larsltj
@larsltj Жыл бұрын
@@GrantBurtongreat, if screens looks really scratchy like this, it's almost always because of protective film. I even drove my Tesla for several months before finding protective film that should have been removed from the side cameras. 😅

@GrantBurton
@GrantBurton Жыл бұрын
Hi, it can't connect to wifi directly... it would need to be connected to an inverter / Solar Assistant via CAN or RS485 ports (if you buy the correct model with the CAN port activated). I haven't done this myself but I believe it's possible however you wont be able to access the BMS settings like you would normally do in the app when connected via bluetooth.

I recently built a 14s 48v battery with the JK 200A BMS. As I have built a couple of batteries with Daly BMS earlier, I did most of the build on autopilot, but it didn't work! After reading the manual I found out that the last balancing cable also needed to be connected and everything went smooth from there 😅
@GrantBurton

How are those Daly BMS's working for you? They seem to be quite popular (more popular than the JK) but the JK seems like a better BMS. Are you using your batteries in a mobile setup or 'off-grid' style backup for the house?
@larsltj
@larsltj Жыл бұрын
@@GrantBurton I could use it for backup if needed in the house, but my main purpose is for electric outboard motors. The 48v 170AH battery weighs in at 41.7kg with the water proof case and should have 8.8KWH energy on board. It will serve a 6.5KW engine on my tender. My first battery build was created from used NMC batteries of a wrecked Mitsubishi Outlander a few years ago. The battery was used for trolling motor, had a simple Daly BMS and have served me well. I also recently built a new 14.8v battery with new cells for trolling motor with Daly BMS. Both Daly and JK have worked well for me so far. Using 14.8v nominal effect on 12v motors may affect the lifespan of the engine as they run on 133%, but I haven't noticed anything yet. I've also used Lifepo4 batteries, but NMC are lighter and more powerful. The chemistry is more aggressive if something goes wrong, but should be safe when operated within specs. ☺️
New JK-BMS Firmware 15.30 fixes everything? Well, at least a lot...
