Awesome work my friend - just set my VENUS PI up with my JK. I never would have known it was possible before Andy. Before yesterday I finally finished my 2 battery banks of each 16x23ßAH CATL cells and plugged the 2 JK BMS into my Cerbo GX with the 2 adapters boughts months ago, when I've seen this video. It worked like a charme, the Cerbo found them immediatly. Thanks for your work. Just the SOC the JK sends is far off the reality but I think this is depending to the really flat voltage curve of these cells. I dont care about that. For testing I switched the balancing on, the cells are at around 10% soc and the difference in voltage has been around 0,020V. A few hours later, they have been perfectly balanced. Now I'll go with your setting at 3,45V for balancing.

Im happy to see you finally give the integration a try! I’m glad that was easy for you. Batrium works natively (without Venus mods) and can handle many different battery packs at once and report as a single storage system while still giving individual pack and cell visibility. It can also handle 500 or 1000amps depending on the shunt you choose to get with it. I highly recommend the 1k version. It works much better with large cables. Would you like to try one? I might have one laying around that I can ship to you to play with. Also if you turn on “Has dc system” in the VenusOS, then you’ll get the little marching ants showing a charge coming from a dc source that is not part of the victron system. I.e. your desktop charger.

The GPS port on the JK BMS is in fact a TTL serial port. Your black box is a TTL to rs485 converter. You could have used a ttl2usb converter instead of the two converters you used. You would have to supply power to the converter, however. And a warning: The rightmost pin is connected to battery +, therefore you have battery voltage there!

Right. I just only cut the cable and connected it directly to a TTL to USB and everything is working fine
@upnorthandpersonal2 жыл бұрын
That adapter is actually a mess: it contains an entire microcontroller to convert the TTL signal coming out of the BMS to true RS-485. Then you need the USB adapter to essentially convert that RS-485 signal back to TTL... I told Nami they should just provide a simple TTL-USB module and be done with it. You can also make a cable and use a TTL/USB adapter and skip their RS-485 adapter.

Moin Andi, very interesting video! But be aware of ground connectivity: Ground on your BMS communication port will be B-, simply because these interfaces should also work when the BMS has shutdown the battery. Ground on your inverter or DC/DC converter is P-. So if you connect both your BMS and inverter to the same raspberry pi without using at least one USB adapter with galvanic isolation, you've created an alternative path for the current to flow as soon as the BMS turns off the battery. This will surely fry at least one of the components in the path. So be careful what you connect.
@danielvanaalst24602 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that is very correct. This is the reason my rapberry pi does not work anymore. The BMS tripped, and the Raspberry died by trying to handle 290A... Maybe an isolated serial converter would be cheaper at long term ;-) greetings from Germany from someone who's waiting on his spare raspberry ;-)

After that (cells are not completely damaged but loose capacity) I cut off GND of the DALY to USB cable (it works without at my installation). Never checked this again, but looks like that DALY only CUT-OFF "- pole" OR did not recognize very low power consumption. Keeping a DC-DC converter (for Raspi) to Plus and Minus out of Batt (outside Daly) while connecting UART to USB (with GND) the Raspi works again without real Cut-OFF (my problem during COVID I don't recognized early enough) With the cut of GND at the cable I never tried again to test ( but I created some additional " Secure Cut OFF" scripts to shut-down my inverter at 20% SOC, OR shut OFF at min cell voltage at 3,15V) And yes ....using IObroker (separate) as additional control of Venus (provided by NodeRed on Venus to IObroker)

I see that you are connecting a BMS to a RPi except none of them are inside a sealed lithium battery. I have built the raspberry pi and want to make all the connections. I know I'm sounding a bit stupid here, but the Eco Worthy batteries are not smart. They will be connected to a Victron smart charger controller. How does the BMS turn the battery off in case of low voltage disconnect. Is it through the plus and minus connects? As I'm using Eco Worthy batteries with JBD-HP28SA BMS what type of RJ485 connectors will I need to connect to the RPi, will victron RJ485 to USB work? I'm confused because I fitted an EPEVER BN Tracer controller with an MT50 display, this seemed to work, but if you're connecting an inverter to the battery how quickly can a solar controller switch off the battery through the BMS. I just seems that as the display has comms to the controller but not to the battery (no wires) how does the BMS know what to do? Again for those not to bright people who are not going to open up their batteries to try and connect a BMS physically could you show how to do this with a sealed non smart lithium battery and a raspberry Pi? When it comes to USB serial ports, be aware that the cheapies often do not have unique serial numbers. This isn't an issue if you have just one of them connected to a linux system but it can cause issues if there is more than one. Thanks! your video helped me a lot! what happens if the BMS breaks the minus? Does the current flow through the communication cables? does it make sense to equip the BMS with a USB isolartor?

Hello Andy, I am an avid follower of your videos and am always waiting for the next one. - I hope you find time to answer me, because I know that you get a lot of comments in the block due to the many followers - I have a question about the different BMS solutions that you have presented and some of which you are also using yourself . I built two 24V batteries, each with 8 EVE280Ah cells, and decided on the Jaibada BMS with the "thick" relay. I have these batteries running in parallel. Unfortunately, one of these BMS has failed. It can no longer be set to 8 cells and therefore reports low voltage to the cells that are not present. I've decided to replace this BMS but don't want to use the JBD BMS anymore as I'm not that happy with the relay solution, although galvanic isolation also has advantages. Now to the question: Which of the solutions you are using would you recommend as the best? My requirements are 24V (8 cells), max. load current 100A, possible connection to VenusOS and iOS and satisfactory balancing. I also use a Heltec balancer. - I would be happy if you could give me a tip. - Ich danke Dir schon mal im voraus für Deine Antwort.

Hi Andy first of all, thanks for your very informative videos. Do you have any idea how to increase the bluetooth range on the JKBMS?

Does anyone know if this solves the SOC issue with JK BMS? Or will it still show the wrong SOC data in the Venos OS?

Hi, did it’s possible to connect 2 bms (jk) with a USB hub to a cerbo to use 2 separate batteries?
@rolandluders7957 Жыл бұрын
I connected one of my batteries to venus on an rasbpi. Now i have three 24V/304Ah Banks in parallel connected to a Smartshunt. So I can see the total current af them. There is a voltage drop from the connection cables and fuses of each bank. therefore is the dedected Voltage of the shunt not exactly the battery voltage. It would be better when the Voltage would used from the BMS. Is that possible?

This is nice, but, at the moment i have my JKBMS being polled by a RasPi updating all the cell voltages and all the other values which is nice because i can log historic cel performance in grafana and see if a cell has a longterm issue. Does your process show you the individual cel voltages in VinusOS?

Hi Andy, thanks a lot for this video. I tried to connect daly to cerboGX and I wasnt succesfull. Now, I know how. But q about battery. I have 16 cells in my home as battery connected together with Daly BMS, but becouse this didnt work, I use Victron Shunt. Many times I cant see real SOC. For example, based on volatge SOC it should be on 95%, but it is only on 65%. Do you know what can be wrong? One more q: I am using 3 x Victron Multiplus II 48V/3000VA/35-32A on 3 phases + MPPT from Victron as well. When I have 52.2V in battery /whitch is SOC on 50%/ and I turn on oven with 3400V consumption, battery felt on 49.5V immediately /sometimes even less/ and I have to take energy from the grid. Its happening in your case also? Or it is because I don't have proper info about battery in Cerbo? Now I am thinking to buy next 16 cells /same producer of LiFePO4 - EVE prismatic/ and connect it to my system, because I want to change my Multiplus 3000 for Multiplus 48V/5000VA/70-50A. Will be 560Ah battery enough for this system? It is better to keep as 2 different batteries like in your case, or will be better create on 560A battery (Iam using my actual battery for 6month already? In case that I will use as one battery, I have to connect my 16s Daly BMS on 2 cells instead on. It will be not a problem with balancing? Will I solved it also issue with battery softness?

Andy, does the BMS has to be connected to Raspberry or Cerbo during the installation? You video implies that you installed the driver first and then you connected BMS after restart. Is that correct assumption? Thanks

For the JK B2A24S15P you need to connect the RS485 adapter to the GPS port as well. See port description on Ali page of JK BMS. Very confusing ;-> Thanks for explaining it in general.

Hi great video but some times i think you cant connect bcz CAN port of the bms and inverter has to hv the same protocols but sometimes they don't match atleast mine don't. I hv a darly bms n my inverter is a EASUN n they both hv CAN but the protocols are different that's what I hear so it's unable to connect to each other. SO ON OTHER NEWS.... what happened with the electrician what was the feedback that you got. Never heard the feedback you got about the heltec BMS if it was able to be calibrated.

Do you still need raspberry pi and all those connectors? Or has it been simplified?
@philipardvall1968 Жыл бұрын
Did exactly as you and no errors when installing it but when I plug it in nothing appears and after some troubleshooting it can’t recognise my Daly BMS and when I connect MPPT it’s saying Not Connected but without Daly usb connected everything around Victron worked just fine
@Darkbluesstar Жыл бұрын
I don't know if you are using a Cerbo or Raspi, but you have to connect all when you install all. After that, you need to do a reboot (login by ssh and "shutdown -r 0")! I don't use self-made cables or any adapters. I only use original cables from Victron and Daly... works very fine. Don't forget to switch to the "large" version and to apply DCC otherwise you won't see "Daly".
@philipardvall1968 Жыл бұрын
@@Darkbluesstar thanks for reply, I use RP 3 and bought the same Daly adapter that Andy linked to. The strange thing is after I’ve installed the plugin and connect Victron again it just say Not Connected but when the Daly adapter isn’t plugged in works perfect

Just as an aside, you don't need Putty on Windows any more, SSH has been installed natively.

Hi Andy, i love your videos. Du you have a pin layout for the JK -B2A 8S 20P? For the Display Port and/or the RS485/CAN bus Post Yes you told us all in the video that we should use the Display Port for the RS485 Communication, but my JK has a printing on it with "CAN/RS485" so i am thinking that they got it right with the newer ones? But nevertheless i really need a pin layout, would be great if you have one Thanks a lot and keep on you good work Michael

Thanks Andy. Are you aware of any way to display real time data of your system on your website from Victron VRM Portal Dashboard so we could watch your system in real time? That might be a draw for your website and interesting for the rest of us.
