Thanks Richard for another enjoyable video, you might find Heywood station on the East Lancs preserved railway an interesting prototype for your preserved railway. Single platform, portacabins, couple of huts - makes a change from the “twee” modelling of preserved railways that you normally see on layouts and lots of cobble setts which make for an interesting foreground.

note on the DCC power reading thing, obviously cannot use the cheap ones on the DCC bus - however you can use a cheaper one, not quite as usefully, on the DC power supply input - will also be picking up the power draw of the controller but can be useful

Progressing nicely. Just a thought but the heritage station NYMR Grosmont or Levisham. I have based my scratch built station (still building) on Scalby Station part of the Scarborough to Whitby line long now of course. Another possible option. Always great to catch up on where you are at with your layout as you are a continual inspiration to us all. Hmmm garage layout, now that could be my next move to upscale my layout.

Levelling off your road! Surprised as your modelling modern image, surely you could just apply a touch of different colour and maybe a little gravel in the bottom of the “bubble”. Instant potholes, for your vehicles to avoid!😂

Love watchig your updates to the layout. Regarding the heritage line station, I'm guessing you are having two platforms, one either side of the tracks. Would an offset station be an idea for this area? There are still examples on the main line now, Ribblehead, for example, on the S&C line is offset. May offer a interesting variation of a station for the layout.

If the road doesn't work out, why not use chinchilla dust in wood filler? It will give a road texture and you can colour the filler before adding it.

With the other view of the other side of the layout as it stands now, when might be the next time you take it out and set it up in the exhibition style? Not because I am wanting to see it again, but because I’m curious about what step coming up would benefit the most from stretching out somewhere?

Two thoughts Richard. Can the spare track go under the layout as a programming track? Could the heritage station go under the current station at the base of the retaining wall, as if it was originally "New Junction lower" on a different companies line. You could then have a footbridge over track 4 and dropping to the heritage line.

A great update video, it's always good to see how your progressing. My grandson found the road particularly interesting as he's just started doing a road, using filler on his 009-layout. You can see him adding it on his latest update video. I don't know if you've seen any of his 009-layout build videos on his DylingtonModel Railway channel, but he's doing quite well with it. For the heritage line station, how about staggered platforms like Raynes Park? The outside platform where it bubbles in, where the main line station is, and the inner platform further along where the curve is?

Thanks for that video. I had to install a meter monitoring the current consumption of my DCC locos, I had a home built power supply that shorted out when I threw a point that was not DCC friendly, and ended up throwing 25 volts into a chip and destroying it, so I consider it a must, especially as the Hornby power supply for hm 7000 doesn't seem to have over current protection!

Looking good Richard, enjoying watching the layout progress! I shall also be painting my rails in the TMD as they look excellent! Any tips on how to paint them without getting paint on the sleepers or ballast? Also, what did you originally use for the road? What sort/type/brand of filler?

Hey Richard, thanks for update, good to know all is ticking along. Thinking about your heritage line, i think would look better to not have a station 'under' the ECML. When its in exhibition mode, it would make a good area for sidings just downline from the signal box ala Swithland. That will then give you some shunting/marshling manoeuvres to entertain viewing public. You can always say the heritage station is up line off scene, real world railways are more countyside than station. In garage mode gives you more on board storage To change the subject, hows the chinchilla sand holding up now its been down awhile? Eniy GETs, sadly i wont ve able to make it, next shows for me will be Caistorail in a couple weeks, then hopefully Spalding in a month & end this year with the ex Warley show Thanks again, stay well & best wishes to the family

Ooh that’s interesting in modelling Thirsk Station, can’t wait to see your bridge when you build it. I remember the old Trans Pennine Peaks and 47’s stopping there in the 80’s with 7 coaches on. I’m sure the odd HST stopped there too, remember stopping there on our many trips to the south and north west from Darlington. Fantastic layout by the way, she’s really taking shape now.

A short circuit across the track somewhere on your layout will not damage a decoder somewhere else. The point of circuit breakers is to protect the command station. A short circuit can only damage the path through which it flows. The command station, of course, has its own built in circuit breaking system to protect it (or else you would destroy it the first time that you had a short). The purpose of these external units is either to add redundancy to the command station's protection, or, more usefully, to subdivide your layout into different districts so that a short on one part of the layout won't stop trains on another part of the layout (but you need several of them for that). In any event, it is good to see some progress! Hopefully, I will see this at an exhibition one day.

Hi Richard enjoyed your layout update the west hill catenary gantries really look the part on your main line your heritage line scenic side looks realistic with the signal box with the sounds of years gone by can you buy it as accessory for any signal box as l have got a hornby skaledale box on my branch line your heritage station side could you link it to your main line station like NYMR at Whitby where it links with the main line l know yours is on 2 levels but how about steps and an accessible ramp from one level to the other l to am going to fit catenary poles to Beighton Parkway for my class 87 and my new bachmann class 90 with the powered pantograph just like making tracks one in the world record it looks great in orange and black pulling 2 KFA intermodal wagons the view from inside your tunnel with the deltic pulling the rake of west coast coaches have you looked into having a miniature Richard from modelu l went to Rails of Sheffield my local train shop and had a scan of me dressed up in British Rail A4 driver clothes for my blue Mallard printed in 3D colour so l don’t have to paint it that was five weeks ago so just waiting for the post just think a oo scale Richard on your heritage line or even an O guage driver in your garden when mine arrives l will put it on you tube Beighton Parkway Sheffield last but not least how is lulu and you and your family are all well Best wishes Kev

This is actually common on real life railways (although becoming less common now). The bearers (sleepers) for turnouts are often wooden when the track is concrete. In more modern times, however, concrete bearers on turnouts are increasingly common.
