Loving the growing scenery; comparing yours with "real life"; in my perambulations around the countryside, I have noticed that typically, the steeper the ground, the more does "nature" take its course by providing space for brambles and other plant life to find foothold. Can you easily find sources for the variety of plant species typically visible.

Hi Richard. Great video and the layout is coming along really well. I’m not sure network rail keep things as neat as you think. I’m a train driver working around Leeds and often see cable trough if with the lids removed/ out of place. Vegetation and line side clutter is also very much in evidence. Budgets are tight and the teams have to work to deadlines. If the possession needs to be handed back tidying up lids are unused / old materials is a low priority. I’m looking forward to seeing how your layout develops. You’re giving me lots of ideas for my own railway

Did you catch the latest Dylington Model Railway video he's done, he's tried a bit of stop motion animation on it. Hopefully he'll be able to put updates of his 009 layout on there in the coming month's. Looking forward to seeing your next update. ...cheers James 🙂👍

Looks good. I have to echo a couple of comments about NR veg management (or lack of) and the open trough lids. Having walked many miles of NR infrastructure i can verify that the lids are often broken/missing. If you want to make it really realistic, add a cess walkway then drop a few old sleepers or scrap rail on it 😂

The West Hill trunking looks good. One small point on the raised cabinets (loc cases). Locs at ground level are the easiest and cheapest option in the real world. Raised platforms etc are only generally used where you need a loc case, but can’t fit a ground mounted one due to the terrain. If the terrain slopes up, one of these up-bank platforms is a more cost effective solution than digging it out to fit a ground mounted one. Hope that makes sense (I’m a signal engineer of 30+ years experience).

I was just wondering about where you have placed your powers junction boxes whether you could put them on the opposite side of the four lines of track so you can add an access route / pathway for the network rail workers to gain access from the road you had the vans located or technically you could keep them where they are now and just add a pathway going off scene. Like I say I was just wondering you've probably already thought it out but not mentioned your plans about it. As you said it is the early stages of the layout and I am liking what I am seeing it is all coming together and looking good I can't wait to see what it will look like in the final stages.. keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

You are correct with how the fencing is inside as to avoid “ease of climbing” Your heritage line probably wouldn’t have cable trunking it would probably have cabling using telegraph poles and points controlled mechanically by point rodding and signals controlled by wire cables mechanically

I am not sure if I should have videoed from the start of this build or not. Now it looks like a mess with all the locos I have tested and then serviced Which is better than just sitting and looking at them stationary, I am going to have to stop at this point on board one for now as I am having both of my knees replaced and will be out of action for a while, but at least I can run two trains. Nice start to the scenery I have 3D printed my own Fencing, but I am a long way to using any. Martin. (Thailand)
