Nicely done! I have the P 13 PADDLE Drive version also in Black Cherry. Made my old ticker go pitter patter when I pulled the wrapping off her in 2019. Not many upgrades yet. Added a Garmin Striker 4 (used the front scupper mount) and got a matching Carlisle CF paddle for it. Seriously thinking about putting a trolling motor on as I get older (65 atm). Subbed ya, btw. Hope to see some Maine fishing (not many ME YTers) when I can't get out there myself. Keep yer line tight and yer hair dry.

Year 3 now in my PDL - game changer, you will love it. Couple thoughts: The paddle keeper you have to put on, will help - keeps it out of the way has a lock down - but best is it is real handy when open to just grab my paddle when needed to go shallow. I have a paddle leash that I tie down when transporting (I have a system where I use my Tundra to quickly ratchet lock kayak down in the bed, both front of kayak (that front handle is well thought out) and at the seat on both sides - along with a folding kayak trolley with wide plastic wheels underneath (pay no more that $60/70 bucks) to transport and bungee strap on back to do portage where needed. Did same as you with crate and extra pole carriers (stole a milk crate and used pvc - cut slots in the top of the pvc for your rod handles and they will move around less) I have anchor system with clothes line retractor zip tied to side of crate (in all honesty, I almost NEVER use my anchor - no need to with front and back peddling - just wastes my fishing time to set anchor unless in heavier current). I put tool belt pliers holder down low near front pockets (Zip tied) for easy place to store and grab my piers - always in the same place. I just got Helix 5 G2 GPS with down imaging and Nav card (figured it is too slow for good side image use). I switched to 12 volt 14 amp battery this year from 12 volt 7amp - still fits in battery bag on kayak and last much longer between charges - less of a pain and not much more money. I use trickle charger for battery every 3 or 4 trips. The PDL transducer cut outs work best with humminbird (same company owns Old Town and Humminbird). They recess up better than other transducers - Using the front under mount for transducer makes cable run easier (I just run it out the side of the hatch - no holes in hull and it still locks down - then you have channels to run cable under those mounting plates in front. Very clean system. Use 1 inch pvc that pressure fits great into transducer hole to mount it - if you need more info I can tell you how I fixed transducer to PVC pipe with SS hardware (simple). Love your vids - keep them coming.
@precisionanglingYT5 жыл бұрын
Great info. I don’t plan on using an anchor much, but will still prob put a trolly on it. I had read about the side imaging not liking the in hull spot, but that’s where I’ll likely put it. And I have a 12v, 12ah battery for the helix unit, that should get me a a trip or two. Thanks for the advice!!

Just a heads up, check the fishing laws for where you were. It's a few miles from where I live and I got tagged last spring for open water fishing the same exact place. Most of the Somerset and Franklin counties are restricted until October to November after ice out.
@precisionanglingYT5 жыл бұрын
Not sure why they nailed you. Its pretty much open to fishing year round under general law
@jspencer68795 жыл бұрын
@@precisionanglingYT i argued that point w the warden last year and this is where they get you.....its not a general law place, its a special law place, thats how it was explained to me because it states only open to open water fishing from oct.1 through November 30. I was explained in the paperwork from the warden that general law lakes, ponds, streams, rivers won't have special codes included. I dont want to name the place you were at out of respect and privacy. Im just trying to be respectful and share my experience with you as well as maybe somewhat helpful.

How stiff is the pedal drive?? I'm torn between the topwater and this one. I had a total knee replacement so I plan to use this obviously for fishing but also therapy on the knee to strengthen it again. Thanks in advance.
@precisionanglingYT4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say it’s stiff at all. The resistance increases when you start cranking around 4.5 mph. It’s really smooth up to about 3.5mph. As far as rehab for the knee, it would definitely strengthen the knee. Ive worked in PT for 13 years, and this drive system is definitely appropriate post surgery!

@@precisionanglingYT so here's the almighty question. Predator or top water 🤔, I like both and the lakes here in AZ I deal with some shallow areas and boats and jet skis. I don't take alot with me out, and plan to hook up eventually for lights and maybe a motor someday. My biggest is stability getting out of my WS tarpon was somewhat hard before im not strong in my glutes yet. Thanks again for the reply and video.
@precisionanglingYT4 жыл бұрын
You would enjoy either one. I went with the Predator because it was the longest they had at the time. I fish big, deep, cold water frequently and wanted the extra stability vs the shorter versions. The longer kayaks track a little better also. If your mostly fishing shallow, you’d probably be fine with the top water. Can’t go wrong either way tho!! Any other questions, fire away
@yakityakteriw67744 жыл бұрын
@@precisionanglingYT have you had any warranty issues or had to deal wth the company yet? How's their customer service? WS I had issues 1 month into owning it, returned it the other day. Can I also use yakattack stuff? Did you ever get water in the center console area? I think after watching more videos im gonna learn towards the predator, bit more than TW, but I also cover large lakes. I used to paddle 5 miles out and the lake I hope to explore on is over 7500 acres and I hope to find new coves.
@precisionanglingYT4 жыл бұрын
T W I haven’t had any problems with the PDL. I did have a small crack develop in my other standard Predator(non PDL.) It developed just outside of a scupper hole. I emailed them asking for an adhesive type fix, and they emailed saying that it would be covered under their lifetime hull warranty. They sent me a brand new kayak 2 weeks later. I did get some water in the PDL drive compartment. But they fixed that problem with an updated compartment the following year. Overall their customer is top notch! 10/10. Just a side note, they are made an hour north of me here in Maine. Great company, they do a lot for their employees and community!! They take pride in everything they make

Are you able to fish standing up from the Predator kayaks? I'm 6'3" , 260 and have been trying to decide between this and the Topwater/Sportsman from Old Town.
@precisionanglingYT4 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can easily stand and fish from the PDLs. They are very stable. I’m 5’8”, 240 and haven’t had a problem. I used to stand in my 12’ Predator MX in heavy current fly fishing. Can’t speak for the top water or sportsman line, but would be confident saying they would be stable too

I like a lot of the little details about it like the detachable plates. Thats a really well thought out design feature. Looks like it sits great and cruises right along. Awesome review Josh! Happy for you that you got yourself a peddle drive. I think you'll thoroughly enjoy being able to fish hands free and have instant reverse when banging those banks. Also works great in River cureent. I've had my Slayer Propel 10 since 2015 and absolutely love it. I know you adjusted your seat a little forward but you may want to think about adding an inflatable lumbar pillow to your seat; it helps after a long day of recumbent peddling. Look forward to seeing the mods you install. Did you sell your MX or keep it as a backup?

Very nice kayak. I know it’s stable from a standing position,but my concern is the level of stability at the seated position. The seat is only adjustable forwards and backwards. Your pretty much stuck with the seat height. That lends to a higher center of gravity, and an increase potential for rolling over. Now in most conditions it won’t be an issue but it is something to consider. There’s a guy who really gives a good example of this. Check out Aliex Folgueira on KZbin.
