170 mile real world range is a joke. This is the problem with the current crop of EV’s - they might look cutting-edge but the battery tech is just ancient - these cars will be considered about as hi-tech as a steam engine in about 5-years time - no one will want them second-hand. Stick to a decent ICE car for now until the battery tech and charging infrastructure is sorted.

In this bracket I agree, also the outlook on batteries and the relevance of older vehicle in the future as well. I’ve got a model 3 and Y currently, both LR which makes them both more than enough in range but do wonder about the future value of them - that said I’m saving 3-5k in fuel/costs per/year but still….

So you decided to only mention the lower trim to make your point. Because mentioning the higher trim with 300+ range wouldn't help you with your braindead narrative.

Kia stealerships already markup their cars outrageously. This thing will be in the high $70K range before you drive it home. And, with sub 200 mile range, it is completely impractical.

My first Model X was a 75D with 230 miles of range. Lemme tell ya, that was not good enough. If you charge to 20% and have a squeal-point at the low end of 20%, then you're only talking around 140 miles of effective usable range. That was in 2017. Today, any EV that offers those specs is just not very good.

i think the 260 on the y is light on the $43k rwd model. mine had about 230 effective & i've owned a few EV's. maybe i did something wrong, but that's what it was.
@georgewarriner4017

220 miles, how often do you drive that far with a family without a stop? It can be charged to 80% in twenty minutes. It is plenty enough. I know personally in the last two years there is only one trip I have made where with a range of 220 miles (354 kms) I would have had to get an outside the house charge. Yes it would be nice to have more range, but is it worth the much higher price to get it. For me no. For the extra price I'd rather put in a Solar charging station at my house.
@bytemark6508
@bytemark6508 Жыл бұрын
Mind you, the 354 kms is EPA estimated range. Going on a highway at more than 100 km/h should get much shorter range. My Model 3 RWD can get around 450km in the city and about 350 km on the highway, and it's a much smaller (air resistance wise) car. At higher speeds, you'd be left with maybe 250 km. If that is enough for you, that's OK, but that means you need stop after every other hour or so to recharge. But in the city, the range is more than enough, unless you live in the longest city in the world. (By the way, I googled "longest city in the world", as soon as I typed it: "Stretching 150km along the coast from Two Rocks to Mandurah, Perth has a claim to be the world's longest city")

You're all not thinking about what this or anything similar ACTUALLY is used for: SUV > multiple passengers & possibly gear, a "family car", more than likely used more in the suburbs than the city. A normal commuting person would not be using this...if I was a gambler, my money bet is that the range on this had been done with a single test driver, lets say he's a hefty 200 lb person.....they did not calculate a significant other and perhaps 2 kids and around another 200 lbs of gear for a trip. Of course there will be a ton of variables here but even if it was a 400 max ranged EV, quick charging it will only bring it to 300...but that 400 is really what with all that weight and the usage of air conditioning and etc? Perhaps 325 on the full charge? Long trips = average 80 MPH, that would AGAIN equate to less range...look it up people! So 400 = most likely 275 max, then quick charging to 300 after 30 minutes or so = that range to be what? 175 max? Does anyone actually have some real life testing done with this type of scenario? Not for the EV9, but for let's say even a lighter Tesla Model Y (which IMO is not a SUV) Yes the future will be EVs but we will all really have to wait for the battery tech to get to the next level or two to see mass adoption here in the USA. In my family's scenario, 250+170+160+130+120 = 830 lbs for my entire family, not including gear...just say an even 1000 lbs, no way they calculated an average family's weight and range calculated it all... EV9, CyberTruck, Escalade IQ will have ranges way too short

250 km, stop every hour or so? 250 km, is about 2½ hours driving. I'm ready for a break after that. However I almost never drive that far, so for the odd time I do, the extra expense of a bigger battery wouldn't be worth it. I can see for some people that are doing a long drive like that on a regular bases it would be, but not for me and my driving habits.

I'd consider buying this to replace our aging Toyota Highlander Hybrid, but sorry, the 200-mile range is a problem unless it has access to Tesla's charing network. And the lack of AWD or 4WD means it can't substitute for the Highlander's ability to take us skiing. I mean, I can get a used Tesla Model X 90D and it does have all wheel drive and it has more range (257 miles) and it's only $36K.... I know, it's used and it's got 64,000 miles on it, and it was a 2016, but c'mon Kia, you should be able to at least compete with what Tesla could build 7 years ago!

The Kia EV9 is the 1st EV I can recommend to Americans - it's a monster SUV with room for 7 and 4 captain's chairs for excellent seating. Whatever price it comes out as, just remember that there are NO castings in it - it was made the old-fashioned way, and this suggests that Teslas are way way over priced if castings make that much of a difference. I'm hoping my son's company gives him one as a company car - he can easily handle his family of 5 and grandma and grandpa.

Now do the math on a 1500 mile road trip. That's 8 full rechargings, and you will have range anxiety when you reach 150 miles. That's why Sam said to wait for the bigger battery. Would be interesting to compare all big SUV in that class to see what the Kia EV9 really offers. If you really need kind of car it will be definitely among the best also pricewise. Of course that is not the poors family car even on lease!

Might be another entry level vehicle that they'll make very few of. Likely, most on the dealer lots will be closer to $80k usd.

KIA dealerships are notorious for adding dealer markups. This SUV will cost a lot more than $54,900.

Is it true that Australia is changing their laws pertaining to the size of trucks that can drive on their roads now allowing for bigger trucks? If so does this mean the CyberTruck can now be purchased in AUS.?
@AKJammer1
@AKJammer1 Жыл бұрын
The new width effects class 8 semi trucks. So the Tesla Semi, along with Volvo, Mercedes and others, can be driven on their roads. The CyberTruck is just a typical Ute (pickup). The issue there is the right vs left hand drive.

For someone who needs a big car that does not take a lot of super long trips, or has another car for that, or likes to have comfortable break or walk after 200 miles, the base model really provides an affordable option. Way to go.

Not agree.. Rivian just released new spec options in term of power set-up for it's both vehicles R1T -truck & R1S -SUV.. So far they have made & sell top of the line expensive quad motor versions that do not qualify for govern grant to cut-off price but now for lower trims like "dual motor" or "dual motor performance" they do qualify and even though have less features inside are the same creature comfort but now are more efficient because less overall mass weight (-2 motors) also depending on battery type selected is allowing the car equipped with dual motor and max battery pack to have a 420 miles range between charging's and can still do 0-60 under 4 sec and that is a dream for Kia EV9 because new Rivian price can drop in the 78.500 $ territory specially if you not get (just delete) - all the optional gismos that add to the higher price like : optional roof tent, roof racks, optional gears bars, tunnel cooking-system, bike / ski/ kayak racks, etc.. Basic Rivian vehicle without expensive optional paint is much cheaper and still has good capabilities & decent mileage, is dual motor always select basic paint color + self healing 1500$ wrap instead of getting 4000 $ optional special factory paint so yeah if is smart configurated the Rivian is on all aspects better even in basic trims..

@@poplaurentiu4148 sounds pretty nice, but 78K for a midsize truck might be a tough sell. I hope they make it.

Think first! The question is if you need kind of car and not if you only can compare pears with apples! The Kia EV9 is for 6 or 7 adult persons as the third row is huge too and it offers also luggage space. The range is among the best in its class and of course you charge ultra fast with an 800 Volts system. It’s really a big SUV to make distances and never underestimate consumption of ICE in that group of cars to be fair. I always read these stupid comments on range but from people comparing might be their little Ford Fiesta with a big Limo or SUV. My EV6 AWD can go in ideal mountainous area up to 600 km (372 US miles) which for me is enough for one day and I charge in 10 seconds mostly 😜 Plug in the evening at my wallbox and unplug in the morning. On vacation we only choose Hotels with garage and charger. But the best this big Limo with the space of a Mercedes S-Class costs a fraction and is highly efficient in fact using just 2 litres of petrol equivalent on 100 km while an ICE S-Class or similar of any brand uses up to 20 litres in real life with A/C on etc. So driving electric not only changes your view but is another conscious lifestyle getting more fun while dramatically lowering cost (TCO). As an entrepreneur driving mostly German Premium for 54 years - when they were top of the automotive world - I know about what I speak🤔🤓

The design is exactly what I am looking for, but the limited range is a deal killer. I won't go less than 350 miles and even that is a compromise. For the Gary Sues, yes I know you don't need that range but I do so buzz off.

#1 When they introduce wireless charging, range won't matter for the majority of buyers. It charges every time you get home, just park in your spot. #2 If you shouldn't charge to 100%, why don't they program that into the vehicle rather than blaming the user when they overcharge?
