New Kids on the Block #4 - Atop the Fourth Wall

Welcome to Atop the Fourth Wall, where bad comics burn. In this episode, Linkara reviews New Kids on the Block #4, a Christmas comic about an old boy band!

RUMINATIONS: Christmas always brings the weird stuff. And when I can’t find the weird stuff, I end up reviewing stuff that’s not even really related to Christmas. A New Kids on the Block Christmas-themed comic is definitely on the weird scale, but I eventually found so much weirder out there. That being said, I should really look for more New Kids on the Block comics since they tend to be the kind of bad that lends itself so much to jokes. The bit where I start rhyming during the episode was loved by many, which makes me wonder why, when I eventually did an entire review in rhyme, a lot of people weren’t as on board with it. It’s a real shame, but what are you going to do?
I remember getting a lot of flack for saying Marky Mark was in the New Kids on the Block. I stand by what I said - he was in it... just for like five minutes, but he WAS in it.

Here's a fun fact. The 'New Kids On The Block' cartoon featured two voice actors who would eventually voice our favorite 'boy wonder', Robin. Loren Lester from 'Batman:TAS', and Scott Menville from 'Teen Titans'. What's even more ironic is the real life pop idol, Jesse McCartney would also voice Robin in 'Young Justice'.

There is a level in the Zombies Ate My Neighbours called "Weird kids on the block" and it is the first level to feature enemies that appear to be clones of the playable characters. As such, the "new clones on the block" bit seemed amusingly appropriate.

This comic was based off of that short-lived and terrible cartoon based off of them. Jordan went on record to say "There a bunch of california guys trying to do boston accents...it was really embarassing." As a Boston native, I agree!

Unfortunately there are a lot of people that will do just about anything before swallowing their pride and admitting they need help from charity. It's really not that far-fetched for this family not to have asked. The comic still sucks, but that part is sadly realistic

I don't blame you for not liking these guys, or knowing that much of their existence. Frankly, like most later "boy bands", the New Kids on the Block were intended for pubescent girls, the ones whose bodies had started to change, but whose parents thought they were too young to start dating. Also, the individual members were supposed to have identities like "the cute one" or "the funny one", which might explain some of the bone-headed comments.
