The guy you thought couldn't sing is Danny Wood. He can sing but was put in as the bass of the group but actually is naturally higher. He released a solo album , Second Face, that is really good though not well know.

(4:38) - ...WELL, I posted, and it got removed, so let's try it again....NKOTB was *BIG BUSINESS* , and this was the 1st single from their MASSIVE "Step by Step" Album, Summer 1990 ...they were the biggest Band in the WORLD, and Teens were going CRAZY over them..... - ...the song has a retro-70's Disco / Soul vibe, and got to the Top O' the charts.....they started declining a bit after the 3rd single, "Let's Try It Again" (..get it!?) featuring the 'Michael Bivins' of the Group on lead Vocal, Danny Wood..... - ....and speaking of, NKOTB's Manager originally was the Manager for N.E , but they fired him, and he created NKOTB, knowing they would get a larger audience...did they EVER! ....I'll find the charts, I'll be back....

I remember when they first came out. I've been a fan since. My sister was dating Danny for about 3 years so I got to meet them a few times and went to 7 free concerts of theirs thanks to my sister and Danny. Danny is one of the 5 members along with Donnie, Joey, Jordan and John

I'm 53 years old (same as most of the guys in the band) and I remember when this song came out and I've been a fan ever since. The guys are still touring - in fact, they have a summer tour starting in June of 2024. Check them out now - they all look so good!

Aww New Kids - they were my first concert (with Tiffany) in 1989, a year before this song came out. Listening now, I think this song is way more musically interesting than anything on Hangin' Tough - the strings, the chord progression, the harmonies. But from what I remember as a kid, the rest of this album just didn't land with the zeitgeist that Hangin' Tough (the album) had over '88-'89. This fit into the pop sonic soundscape of 1990 but then they just fell out so fast. It was nice to hear again though!

This song was the self-titled track of his ''Step by Step'' album. The album follow the last album ''Hanging Touch'' who News Kids on the Block was huge for the teen masses. This album and ''Hanging Touch'' sell very well. ''Step by Step'' song was a massive n.1 single in 1990. ''New Kid n The Block'' was the fans of a lot of teens peoples of this period like later with ''Spice girls and ''Backstreet Boys''. I always love the choregraphy of the video.

Hahaha! I don't think I've even listened to this song since the 90's. I laughed the whole time watching this thinking "why did we like this so much." lol. By this time in their career most of the kids in my school were making fun of these guys, but they were still making hits! I remember seeing some guys do a spoof / parody of this song at a talent show kind of thing at Summer camp right after this came out - They added some ballet to the choreography lol.

There's Donnie Wahlberg there, Marky Mark's brother. He is married to Jenny McCarthy for years now. I like New Kids on the Block but there was always something a little cheesy about them. I think that grows as the songs age and other generations are introduced to them for the first time. I think the manager of New Edition also made these/found them after New Edition. Great clip!

This was lead single of their 1990 album also called step by step. Peak of new kids mania. Downhill from there though they are now doing well on the oldies circuit. At the time I sorta liked the song: the chorus is an ear worm, and like you the strings added something to the sing. And I like the smooth way they sing “ a matter of time”. But the song is cheesy nevertheless

This is definitely 80s cheese Empress but it is one that grew on me back in the day… and agree it is not as 🔥 as The Right Stuff for sure! 😃 It was more catchy then anything and would really get stuck in your head because it was played to death on the radio!

Being someone who saw both New kids and *NSYNC in their heyday multiple times. New Kids definitely didn’t do it better than *NSYNC did. *NSYNC live shows were way way better. Now I’ll say J.C. And Jordan are two of the best lead singers from the boy bands for sure.
