Watching videos so I can learn how to use my set up

I really appreciate your detail. A lot of quilters seem to feel we all should know things like burying the starting threads, etc. Yes, they are common sense, but we are not all born knowing this. Thank you.

I'm glad you appreciate that Sharon! Sometimes I feel like I'm beating a dead horse, but you're exactly right! We're not born knowing the basics!

Really enjoyed this video. I can see now why someone that enjoys FMQ at a sit down machine would love this arrangement. I’m looking forward to watching your backtracking skill grow. I love the the movement of my long arm. The actual movement is so satisfying. Two questions: Do you enjoy the movement of the long arm and do you still get the same sense of that movement when you are sitting?

It's definitely a different feel to the movement because I'm not standing and I'm not walking with the machine down the frame. This frame is much smaller so there's less need for that, but it does feel different. I do feel I have a bit more fine tuned control over the longarm as a sit down than standing up which is why I'm giving this a try. I must master travel stitching!

Leah Day: my guess is that you WILL learn backtracking! But you also have the pleasure of being able to long arm while standing. Best of both worlds :-) Any way, anything beats the wear and tear on the body that stuffing a large quilt under the harp of even a long bed domestic machine causes. There is a lot about FMQ that I enjoy, buy now I’ll stick to smaller pieces! Have a great day, Leah!!

Thanks for another very informative quilting video. Which size of q zone are you using here? I have the smaller one and don't see where I can adjust the back rail up or down easily, as you did on this quilt. Can I do this on the smaller frame? I am really enjoying this frame and the 15R machine.

This is the Q-Zone Hoop Frame, the smaller version that is 4 1/2-feet long. There are white clips on the sides to lower the back bar. Check your manual for their location as you may need to unscrew a screw on the sides for this to move.

Can I ask how you manage all the quilt at the front as you begin quilting? I am having trouble with all the layers at the front of my q zone frame. Thanks

That is a challenge with that frame. Best bet is to roll them loosely and set them on your lap or push forward to the floor.

I bought this frame a few months ago and I set it up a few weeks ago...I'm having a hard time with the circular motion. As I'm bringing it back toward me the machine seems too heavy and it comes straight towards me....its hard to make a circle motion. Have you found that as well?
@LeahDay3 жыл бұрын
Circles are hard on any frame! On a frame, the easier thing to quilt is vertical or horizontal lines so most circles end up a bit boxy. With practice and 1 million circles, you will master it!

Hello Leah. Just wondering how you got your tension right. I keep getting terrible stitching on the back, help please
@LeahDay5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rita - I have several videos on adjusting tension that you can find here: leahday.com/blogs/machinequilting/frame-quilting-friday-machine-quilting-fun-on-a-longarm The key is patience and making sure, even if you are sure, that your machine is threaded properly. Longarms just can't tolerate even one thread guide being missed and it is SO easy to miss guides when you're frustrated with bad tension!
