I hadn't seen The Night of the Hunter until getting the 4k. I think it's one of my favorite movies now. The dreamlike scenes and hymns are so good

Kino never disappoints...I don't know if they are on Kino but I am waiting for Amadeus and Battle of Britain on 4K.

I remember seeing 12 Angry Men 40 years ago at a retrospective screening with virtually no audience and then shouting into the void about it when nobody cared, except for a few cinema buffs. Nice to see its reputation finally matching its quality, but am also frustrated that so many other amazing older classics still get overlooked.

5:00 dang it! I looked for a 4K of that movie back in december of 2022! I was searching for one on amazon and the only kind that showed up was blu-ray, oh well.

Another great video as always; High Plains Drifter has moved up on my watchlist, even if I didn't adore 12 Angry Men. I also should thank you for recommending Moonlighting a month or two back - I absolutely loved it and don't know where else I would have heard of it.

The Kino 4Ks have pretty much all been excellent, my favorite being their release of The Apartment. Have 12 Angry Men and The Night of the Hunter on order, as well as The Manchurian Candidate, which I'm excited about!

I never knew William Friedkin directed a remake of 12 Angry Men 😮 I might have to consider that release just for that. I had a Pacino binge a few years ago and loved his output in the 70s to 80s. Dog Day Afternoon, Panic in Needle Park, Cruising, Scarface etc. I did think Serpico was my least favourite of them, but you might have inspired me to give it another go. I also picked up Killers Kiss from Kino the other day. Looking forward to it, from the screencaps I’ve seen the transfer is phenomenal.

They’ve accounted for spikes in film popularity in certain regions and weighted it against total number of views, also they’ve tried to stop review ‘bombing’ - a lot of folks were purposely giving Come and See a 1 star review so that Spiderverse would get to number 1

Great films, but the blu rays are excellent enough. I reached the end of the line of the neverending upgrade process, but if Barry Lyndon receaves a 4k release, I betray myself.

Mileage may vary on 4K upgrades certainly! Some of the older blu-rays are showing their age now. Praying for that Barry Lyndon 4K release this year. Cheers!

Night of Hunter is one of the greatest movies ever made. I have both the Kino Lorber and Criterion version. Both scans are sort of grainy, but Kino’s 4K is significantly better. In terms of extras and packaging, the Criterion version is far superior. In summary, you need to buy both. Ha ha.

Kino are really on a roll. Imported High Plains Drifter a few months back and despite being one of Eastwood’s best Hollywood weaterns, it is certainly beautifully presented in its 4K upgrade. Also imported Marathon Man, one of my all time favourite thrillers. Really tempted to import 12 Angry Men and Night of The Hunter, but I’m already on the fence since I’ve imported Thelma & Louise, and planning to import the Kino Lorber editions of Ronin and the upcoming To Live & Die In LA, still I’m hoping that Arrow are planning to release these on 4K since they have already released these two titles on BD in the past.

My only complaint about Kino discs is that most of them for me have excessive grease/off gassing in the cases and several of my discs have been covered in this grease, requiring a lot of cleaning. A few I've played and they've frozen/skipped, requiring a second cleaning.

I only have one Kino disc and I’ve never experienced that. What do you mean they are greasy? What is the source of the grease?

@@garyrichardson475 I'm surprised you haven't seen it in cases... It affects most manufacturers... It's called off gassing, which is when the plastic is heated and cools, it leaves a residue. Some of the cases are very greasy inside as a result with the off gassing, which then gets on the discs themselves and produce errors if not wiped off properly.

Of course i agree that these new releases are excellent, but I couldn’t spend £40 on a single film when you could buy an alternative version that is still great in quality and far in cheaper price

Frankly I don't think you should be recommending to upgrade to 4K. I'm from the VHS era and the Criterion 12 Angry Men blu ray looks perfect to me, why should I feel the need to spend more money! Cereal at midnight recently did a great video pointing out that he gets most titles for free so he can review but not to try keep up with him. This sounds very negative but I am already addicted to collecting and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Be more responsible!

I've waited to watch 'Night of the Hunter' for a good while. Watched it the other night, and found it to be massively over-rated in so many ways. Predictably dull story with religous overtones, over the top characters, mixed qaulity of acting across the cast, mostly average cinematography yet with absolutely fantastic lighting and shadows. '12 angry men' is a great film though.
