Jimmy said if he didn't start making these Westerns with Anthony Mann, he wouldn't have made it. Guess we'll never know but we do know that these Westerns showed a whole new level of acting intensity from Jimmy. His performance in Winchester '73 is freaking phenomenal. This is also bar none one of the finest Westerns ever made and I'm so happy to see the Jimmy Stewart/Anthony Mann cycle of Western begin to get the love and attention it's always deserved from Criterion now! Because of this, so many more film buffs will see this fantastic movie and hopefully will see the other Anthony Mann Westerns with Jimmy too after.

I'm still waiting for movies like Lost in Translation and The Shawshank Redemption to come to the Criterion Collection. Talk about "the greatest films from around the world." Both of those films make NO exception to that.

I recently saw the 4K BFI restoration of Seven Samurai at my local cinema and it was breathtaking! So I imagine the new disc versions will be equally superb, hopefully with some nice extra features. 🤞

Richard Pryor one of the four pillars of stand-up along with Lenny Bruce, George Carlin and Bill Hicks. A legend. Been two decades since I watched Jo-Jo dancer and if memory serves me right, found it uneven. His biography on the other hand, Pryor Convictions is a must read in all it's bonkers glory. His life was mad. ps. There's a clip on KZbin titled 'Richard Pryor's most intense interview' that is a pretty amazing window into this tragic genius.

Glad to see The Grifters getting a CC Release, but I won’t be getting it as I already own the 101 Films Black Label release for it. Also helps that it’s spine no. 001 which gives it an unprecedented status on my shelf 😂

Other than the Kurosawa films (which i do own blu rays of, so might get the BFI 4k;s), a weak month for me. Have’nt seen Winchester 73, maybe as you recommend then it might be worth it. Not a big fan of a lot of french new wave (much of it is style over substance imho).

@@ElliotCoen It's a very deep film, Elliott. Honestly, I don't think Nouvelle Vague is deep. It's important, but dated to my eyes. Eustache's film is something else. A great release!

Pretty disappointed in the lack of special features for Winchester 73. This movie deserves better. I hope Arrow or Eureka can get the rights and do it justice. Criterion is just not putting in the effort.

I would love to see more in the special feature department too. The film comes first but yes, if another label creates a stacked release, I’ll be getting that!

Hi Elliot, I wanted to ask a question about the Umbrella release of The Quiet Family. Apparently the book has an error to do with chapter 4, maybe some missing pages or something. Do you own this release, if so can you elaborate? And do you know if this is the case for every copy of this release? Thank you!!

@@TimesSquareGT Hi yes there is an error in my copy too. Either a page is missing or the text was not finished properly. I can’t remember exact details but a sentence doesn’t carry over when you turn a certain page. I’m not sure if Umbrella are doing anything about this particular issue, sorry!
