I have not run across many Aquarian heads that I have had good luck with, but as usual, you make the kit sing! Are you still running the classic clears? You really need to do a tuning video. You have one of the best tones I have ever heard!
@JeffWald6 ай бұрын
yes sir, CC's on top/bottom of everything but the 14 & 16 (stock clear amb's) b/c i'm not worried about the hazy look that low. I may do one, I still don't think I do anything different than most and I struggle w/ the FTs sometimes

@@JeffWald Well, after watching tons of video's on here, the whole fat, thuddy, dead sound grates on my nerves. I worked in the drum industry for a little while. They are making some great products these days. After the 80's they really focused on making drums as resonant as they can, and it blows my mind how people kill tone with moongel at multi ply heads. You do a great job at making them sing!
@JeffWald6 ай бұрын
@@RemoWilliams-jg4yb I hate those moongels. I get it, but I hate the and refuse to use them in my little world. I'll do old school stuff like cut out old heads (I refuse to buy pre-done ones - are you kidding me?! Its an old head!). BTW, I just finished tuning these up a little higher than red, gonna experiment. not a whole lot higher but I think they're singing best where I have them now. About to record & review :)

@@JeffWald You have to do what you have to do to service the song or the engineer. I was taught how to tune the ring out of the drum. Even live, if the drums ring, the amps frequency will drown them out. It blows my mind how soundmen, made drums sound better 30 years ago.

SWEET kit Jeff... and like you, a HUGE Porcaro fan here (did a few covers from him). I hit you up on FB regarding the bass drum head. I was wondering about your aux snare. Can you tell me the make/model? Only Pearl one I can seem to find is M1060 that comes close but it's only a 6 ply maple and not 8 ply. Thanks man and GREAT sounding kit!!!
@JeffWald5 ай бұрын
Hey brother, its actually the first drum of the whole kit, designed/thought of by one of the guys at Pearl for the MW line. They designed it as 8ply maple, 45 bearing edge cut, DC hoops and it started the finish. They liked it so much that they made the whole kit out of it which you can see in the new 2024 catalog, DCoP bought it and did a video of it and another: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5jFo56vrJmibdUsi=vi8lP26GdTLajQrQ. Then Jon bought it from then and ordered/added the 10 & 13 making it a Porcaro kit. How's that for a back story?!

"We fear change." - Garth Algar Seriously though, it's a lovely kit, I do hope that the big red set's still with you & can be used in recordings and whatnot; the Turkish cymbals are nice, I have a pair of 13" hats and a small riveted China splash from that brand myself. As always, love the drumming, you could play on trash cans and it'd rule.
@JeffWald6 ай бұрын
aww, thanx Todd! Yes, red (IROC) isn't going anywhere besides a different room. I've already thought about that - if I want an 18, gong, 6 or 8" I'll just add them and record. @t_bone125716 ай бұрын
@@JeffWald The little China cymbal is an unusual pie, it cuts through pretty well but disappears fast, so it's good for quick accents. The hats are quite nice, kinda heavy sounding for a 13" pair. Have you still got that Pearl Retrospec? I remember that one from a while ago, it was live your small jazz kit or something. The Aquarian heads sound good on the new set too, and it's cool how the finish almost matches your car!
