I got mine a few weeks ago. The handle fits my hand so well I almost think I'm holding one of my L.T. Wright knives. It's crazy, but a $62 knife feels that comfortable. I've banged my Canary blade through probably 150 logs so far (I live in the country, I have wood burning stoves I still use) and even though we split lodgepole pine here as opposed to hickory, batoning is hard on any knife. However, my Canary will still slice printer paper, but it struggled with phone book paper until I ran it across my JRE strop. Guess what? It now slices phone book paper like it did right out of the box. This Cr8Mo2VSi is supposed to be the same thing as Sleipner steel or DC53, and I believe it. It's great stuff.

QSP and Vosteed are becoming HUGE favorites of mine. My full size Canary is incredible, I've batoned a LOT of logs, and it's still really sharp. The handle is so crazy comfortable I don't believe I'm holding a $62 knife. I love, I mean LOVE the looks of that Gorilla, but I don't want a liner lock in a hard use knife. If you have any input to QSP David, please convince them to use their Glyde Lock. If that Gorilla had a good, hard use crossbar lock, it'd be an absolute BEAST!!! I think a Gorilla with a Glyde lock would be a better heavy duty EDC folder than a Spyderco Shaman.

The QSP Variant PE Lundquist design is very similar to the Kizer Banish by same designer, but bigger and no button lock. I really am enjoying my Banish!

Hey David and crew (Thomas) I actually have a question I need help with this time around. I recently bought a whole fish and broke it down using my 8" Twosun TS999 in 14c28n and . . . It wasn't a great experience. I was hoping you could enlighten me on purchasing a new fillet knife. I would prefer something with a nice edge holding stainless steel like 12c27 or something in the ABEL family but s35vn would also be nice. Budget is preferably $50 but willing to spend much more since this an area of the market that's quite sparse. Thanks again for all the content.

O man... I really wish that qsp canary fixed blade was left in 14C28N... I prefer to have the rust prevention in a outdoor knife of that size and the toughness as well... Yeah, Edge retention isn't quite the same, but 14C28N usually strops back better then this DC53 Steel... or at least in my usage.... anyways hopefully they come out with ones in different steel...

I feel like QSP really missed the mark with the canary folder and canary XL. The original canary had such cool spine gimping and a nice looking high (not full) flat grind. Also I feel like they called it the canary because canaries are small, so a full sized version kind of misses the point. Still a great looking knife, but I think they shouldn't have given it the canary name

Ignore the difficulty of sharpening & with polished or mirror edge finish otherwise too many variables to answer in a short video. Let's also limit our possible answers to steels that will hold the edge longest 14C28N will accept an awesome mirror edge but won't keep it like the more premium steels.
