Hey DCA, as far as the Jungle Wear Elementum goes: They probably made 2014 because WE is celebrating their 10 yr anniversary this year 2024, so that would obviously mean they began in 2014 ! 😊 Also they use a 10CR core now for their damascus (previously 9CR).

The upgraded Hectare is cool, but 2 things I'd like to see changed... for a 3x increase in price, I think the knife deserves an upgraded clip and not the exact same one as on the budget version. Second, a criticism of the model in general as opposed to a particular version- the knife would work a lot better with thumbstuds rather than just the slot. My guess is they went with the slot to visually remove themselves from similar Bugout or Racoon designs, but it just doesn't work as well. They could keep the slot but add the studs in addition if they wanted.
@mikerollins3088
@mikerollins3088 7 ай бұрын
@jonathanklein7875 I typically like thumb studs but like you said they may have been going with the hole instead to be a little different from those others and in this knife I'd agree with them. If they had done a better job with the hole placement or doing some milling on the scales where it meets the hole it would be a lot better cuz it would have more access space to flick. I also agree with the clip. Hate having cheap stainless clips on a nice knife or version of a knife.

Yeah, and not like healthy nice looking well kept chickens living the good life. But like hard scrabble, barely scraping by type chickens running around mostly forgotten or ignored on a dusty dying farm because the farmer is struggling with a gambling problem. That's a yardbird.

Dear DCA, would you please give your opinion on what steel/s will take the keenest/sharpest edge? I realize that geometry is 95% of it however, seems like some steels just get a finer edge than others even if it’s the same knife just in different steels. Example you said Nitro-V takes a great edge but won’t hold it as long as some super steels. Thanks.

I kinda thought the same thing. A fixed blade folder, if that’s even possible. That is one of the coolest heavy duty knives I’ve ever seen. Usually that price tag would behoove me not to use it. But I feel this thing is begging to be used and abused.

Oooh, speaking of that WE yardbird, here's a question for your FAQ vids: What are the best sounding folders available? That pleasing 'ding' that the yardbird made was cool, but there must be other folders going for unique and interesting sounds.

Most button locking knives (mainly plunge mechanism button locks), in particular models that come in fully milled aluminum or titanium seem to have a very satisfying **ting** when the blade tang makes contact to the stop pin during opening. My Kizer Original as well as my CJRB mini Pyrite both have consistent, as well as crispy audible **tings** when opening the blade. The MVP as far as opening **ting** sounding knives would have to be the Winter Blade Co. Factor. It's a proprietary magnet locking knife that is notorious for its satisfying opening engagement sounds. Hope this helps!

@@wes.killed.it.5511 Yeah, thanks for the response, wes. Now that you mention it, I have a Kizer Cormorant that sounds like that. I'm wondering about other unique sounds too though. It might have been my imagination, but I recall DCA showing a Sandrin Knives Monza last year that had almost a whine sound on opening. Maybe because of the Tungsten Carbide blade? Not sure.

@@Hexsyn The need for new models every 6 months comes from KZbin knife channels who find it boring when a company has designed something so well it stays on the market for many, many years. There's really not much left to be done in terms of a keychain knife. If there were an innovation for a keychain knife, why isn't some other company coming out with it?
@Hexsyn

@franticflintstone7999 I had to sleep overnight on this reply because I don't fully disagree. Vic has the Keychain size pretty well on lock, but if I were to have my wish, I would drop money on an alox rambler that has, say, s35vn for a blade. Maybe they could do a "for tinkerers" line of knives where the knife is screwed together instead of pinned? Maybe start using a box opener instead of the antiquated hook? Just spitballin

Can someone please ask Eric at Spyderco why they still don’t offer deep carry clips as standard on their knives. I like Spyderco but the first thing I do when I get one is go to Casey (Lynch) and get a deep carry clip. But I won’t carry it until the clip comes in and I change it out. It’s freakin 2024…lol. That YardBird seems like an odd duck. The ring & spine mounted clip are features of a karambit, but it’s a button lock flipper. So you would have to pull it from your pocket karambit style and then turn it around to deploy the blade. I certainly wouldn’t advise using as personal protection…lol.

@@EDCandLace You realize the S35vn steel that real chinese brands like Kizer, Artisan/Cjrb, Qsp, Kansept, Kubey, Bestech, etc are ALL using American made Crucible S35vn steel right. If you think China or Taiwan or whoever have a steel version "equivalent" of s35vn and 14c28n and every other steel or whatever then you are very wrong. Yeah D2 has an american version, chinese version, and there's k110 which is an Austrian version of D2. (Bohler) Japan has VG10, China has 10cr15mov, but the U.S. doesn't make an equivalent, because not every country makes an equivalent of each steel. That's why there's not a Chinese Magnacut! The only Magnacut that can be used is if its ordered by Crucible, like with many other steels such as S90v, S45vn, S30v, Cru-wear, etc. The only thing that could potentially be different is what its heat treated to, and many companies list what it is and these are all great companies that do a lot of business, ilso if they were making crap knives they wouldn't be in business long. Things have changed for the better over the last 5 or more years, and competition is too fierce to get away with cheap bs nowadays.

In todays knife market to Me there is no reason to spend over $90 on a knife. There’s so many great options with great materials for under $90. I just wouldn’t do it. To each is own tho

The average cost of these new blades is close to 400 dollars and you say that you got them at a cheaper price point for your customers……. Wow

They're not any cheaper than anyone else - I see routinely their "sale price" is the regular list price at other stores. the hook is the addictive nature of collecting knives. loyalty prorgams, gimmick stickers, and coins - all treasures and trinkets that cost them nothing, but rake in truckloads.

That clip on that ZT 0450 though.. My word that thing looks especially hideous on that otherwise drippy knife. Why on earth would a $400+ knife have a clip that meh? How is that still okay?

I really want more Bradford blade shapes. I like their simplicity, I love a classic leather sheath, but man are they boring looking.

@landofpc I agree, and that's why I dont really care for s90v that much. Yeah it has a great edge retention, but there's some other steels that have decent edge retention but with way better toughness!

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Christ Died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was Buried, and that He Rose Again the Third day according to the scriptures. Accept Christ as Savior and BELIEVE in Him and what He did for YOU at the Cross. Through Christ your sins are Forgiven, Fellowship with God the Father is Restored, and you’ll Have Eternal Life, Heaven ( Eternity of Love, Peace, Rest, Joy, No Sin, No Pain, No struggles etc. ). Make the Right decision Now for your next Breath is NOT guaranteed, and if you Die in your sins without Getting Saved you will Spend Eternity in Hell ( Eternal Torment, Burning, Darkness, Restlessness etc. ). Christ is Coming back for us so much SOONER than any of us Think!!!!. The Rapture of the Church is IMMINENT, Call on Christ Today. God Bless you all and I Hope to See you in the Clouds with Christ and at the Wedding Supper of the Lamb Very Very Soon.
