Hey DCA, as far as the Jungle Wear Elementum goes: They probably made 2014 because WE is celebrating their 10 yr anniversary this year 2024, so that would obviously mean they began in 2014 ! 😊 Also they use a 10CR core now for their damascus (previously 9CR).

The upgraded Hectare is cool, but 2 things I'd like to see changed... for a 3x increase in price, I think the knife deserves an upgraded clip and not the exact same one as on the budget version. Second, a criticism of the model in general as opposed to a particular version- the knife would work a lot better with thumbstuds rather than just the slot. My guess is they went with the slot to visually remove themselves from similar Bugout or Racoon designs, but it just doesn't work as well. They could keep the slot but add the studs in addition if they wanted.
@mikerollins30887 ай бұрын
@jonathanklein7875 I typically like thumb studs but like you said they may have been going with the hole instead to be a little different from those others and in this knife I'd agree with them. If they had done a better job with the hole placement or doing some milling on the scales where it meets the hole it would be a lot better cuz it would have more access space to flick. I also agree with the clip. Hate having cheap stainless clips on a nice knife or version of a knife.

Dear DCA, would you please give your opinion on what steel/s will take the keenest/sharpest edge? I realize that geometry is 95% of it however, seems like some steels just get a finer edge than others even if it’s the same knife just in different steels. Example you said Nitro-V takes a great edge but won’t hold it as long as some super steels. Thanks.

@wes.killed.it.55117 ай бұрын
Most button locking knives (mainly plunge mechanism button locks), in particular models that come in fully milled aluminum or titanium seem to have a very satisfying **ting** when the blade tang makes contact to the stop pin during opening. My Kizer Original as well as my CJRB mini Pyrite both have consistent, as well as crispy audible **tings** when opening the blade. The MVP as far as opening **ting** sounding knives would have to be the Winter Blade Co. Factor. It's a proprietary magnet locking knife that is notorious for its satisfying opening engagement sounds. Hope this helps!

@@wes.killed.it.5511 Yeah, thanks for the response, wes. Now that you mention it, I have a Kizer Cormorant that sounds like that. I'm wondering about other unique sounds too though. If you think China or Taiwan or whoever have a steel version "equivalent" of s35vn and 14c28n and every other steel or whatever then you are very wrong. Yeah D2 has an american version, chinese version, and there's k110 which is an Austrian version of D2. (Bohler) Japan has VG10, China has 10cr15mov, but the U.S. doesn't make an equivalent, because not every country makes an equivalent of each steel. That's why there's not a Chinese Magnacut! The only Magnacut that can be used is if its ordered by Crucible, like with many other steels such as S90v, S45vn, S30v, Cru-wear, etc. The only thing that could potentially be different is what its heat treated to, and many companies list what it is and these are all great companies that do a lot of business, ilso if they were making crap knives they wouldn't be in business long. Things have changed for the better over the last 5 or more years, and competition is too fierce to get away with cheap bs nowadays.
