@pinkskiestoday That would be a very short video, because Overdrive is integrated. You just add the name of you library and your passcode. Then, when you browse the kobo store, it will tell you if the book is available at your library. When you tap on the cover, it will be downloaded on your kobo. Of course you can also browse your library directly and download. Furtermore kobo does offer Kobo plus in a lot of countries including the US, which is similar to Kindle Unlimited. There aren't as many books in Kobo plus as are in KU, but their quality is better and it is cheaper.. KU in my experience, is mostly a bunch of drivel, written by nearly illiterates. KU books more often than not have never seen an editor and are riddeled with grammatical and spelling errors, as well as every false friend under the sun.

Thank you for the review. I'm a long time Kobo user and currently have the Forma. I've debating picking up the Libra Colour and I think your review sold me on it. I agree, as a Canadian the Kobo makes book purchasing and borrowing easy. As for my TBR list - it's the year of fantasy for me. Catching up on all things Sarah J. Maas at the moment.

Kobo also has Kobo Plus which is similar to KU. About the same price, not as many books as KU but they are adding content all the time..

Something else to consider: Kobo devices support .epub ebooks natively, Kindles do not. Calibre makes this less of an issue but with Kobo you can literally drag and drop your DRM free ebooks without the need of conversions. I love the Kindle as a device but them pushing their store so hard in the homescreen and not supporting open standards is unacceptable to me. I'm looking for a Kobo now, just not sure which to get (Libra Colour, Clara BW or Clara Colour...) The Drive integration seems extremely convenient too, I wish they also put that on the Clara devices, really shitty that they don't.

That’s old. It used to be like that. They changed it to actually accept epub files now opposed to mobi.

Hi Mary, great video! I have watched so many reviews, but your comparison to the Kindle experience is perfect for what I was looking for. I have a super specific question I haven't been able to find an answer to... what happens if you annotate a library book that is returned to the library/removed from your device? Do you get to keep the annotations on the device, or do they get wiped with the book? P.S. Your dog in the background... SO cute. I had to pause, because I don't want to miss the device, but I wanted to appreciate your sweet pup, too. 😂

Regarding your question about annotating library books: from what I've researched, you don't get to keep the annotations once the loan is returned. Unfortunately, the notes are tied to the specific copy of the book and get wiped when the book is removed from your device. Have a great day!!

after watching a dozen or so reviews, I'm really tempted to buy the color to replace my aging libra h2o. But on the otherhand, my libra still works perfectly fine and I don't really need color, I rather have a carta 1300 bw. Then again, I take a ton of annotations and annotations in color would be kinda nice. But if I buy the color I know I'm going to want the pen too ... and I will also need a new sleep cover. So now I'm looking at 300+ euro for a 7" ereader. And at that point I might as well go with 8", but the 8" kobo hasn't been updated with a new model yet ...

Hi! I'm so happy you enjoy it! I believe you can't go wrong with this eReader-you are going to LOVE IT! Regarding annotations, you can make them, but as far as I know, they won't be saved once the book rental period is over.

I am obsessed with Libby as well and Kobo is integrated really well with it (at least in Canada). I have the Kobo Libra 2 and almost exclusively use my ereader to read library books. I still use my phone app to manage my library rentals through Libby because I find it a lot more easier, but once I borrow a new book it gets synced instantly onto the Kobo and ereaders are so much easier on your eyes than reading on a phone or tablet. The integration with Overdrive is the reason I stick with Kobo instead of Kindle (as in Canada, as far as I know, you cannot read library books on Kindle)

@@jasonmatthew94 yes I agree with you, it has been so easy on my eyes I’m enjoying my experience with it now that I finally have the device but I’m a bit let down about there not being a way (as far as I know) to have your highlights and markups saved from your library books. Annotating is a big part of my reading process it helps me understand things. But other than that I’m happy with my new device and enjoying the ereading experience with books a couple of books I have purchased and I have transferred files from Project Gutenburg thanks to the Dropbox integration. All in all I am so thankful to have made the step to get it 😊 *and yes, once you do get the book from your phone it shows up quickly on the ereader ☺️

Are the letters not as black or crisp on the libra colour vs the kindle paperwhite? Some reviewers mention that for pure text, the letters on the black & white ereader are crisper.

Hi! Yes, there is indeed a difference in the crispiness coming from the Paperwhite Signature Edition. However, I don’t see the difference anymore; it is very subtle. I never reach for my Kindle anymore. You would have to hold them side by side to notice it, I feel like.

From what I have experience, you need to buy the books from the Kobo store in order for it to sync with Kobo apps on other devices. I have not figure out if there is a way to do this with books from elsewhere yet!

Great review. I am also Canadian, from Vancouver. I had to return a Kindle Paperwhite as I realized that it was not compatible with the Libby app, already on my phone. Yes, does so through Overdrive the same backend that Libby uses as it's owned by the same company. Any holds and loans you have in your Libby account should work with the same library card when you login on the Kobo.

i like the kobo but the eBook selection is not as near as good as amazons' selection there is a lot of books i want to read that kobo does not have so i will be sticking with my kindle paperwhite signature edition

Hi! I read outside all the time and personally don’t have any problems with it. Yes, it is different from the Kindle because it uses a different technology to display color, but it is not hard to read by any means 🥰

One downside to the Libra Colour not mentioned often is that all handwritten stylus notes taken are lost if you ever switch devices or reset this device. For me, the notes I take are important to me and I don't want to lose them. And who wants to export their notes as lots and lots of PDFs disassociated from the books? Not me. So, for me, no-go.
