Great video! I’m actually stuck between the two so I really appreciate you doing this! Do you still find yourself deploying the legs on OVS? I find most people still do this. If so, the weight and one way pull of the rhino rack may take the prize.

The OVS seems like it's well built, but I'd be worried about the build-up of rain on those large panels. The Rhino looks like you could build some slope into the surface to get better run-off.

Have had both in heavy rain, neither is an issue. If rain/snow is a concern, I'd go with the more robust OVS unit

Great video. I'm torn between the Roofnest Wing and the OVS 270. I really like the lights built into the Roofnest model, but durability is very important as well. I guess if I trust Roofnest to be my tent they're probably trustworthy for an awning as well?

The wing sucks, lights aren’t that bright and all the bolts and main frame that swings out rusted, I’ve only owned it for a few months also. @Keith Croshaw

I wouldn't rate Roofnest as a top quality product. The OVS awning has far better fit and finish then the Roofnest, however you pay for it with weight.

Hello, great Video! I do have the new Defender with the original Expedition-Roof-Rack, I do have the Rhino-270-Markise/Awing BUT no brackets to put those two together... Many suppliers sell thise products but none of them can provide a solution for combining them. Could you provide some drawings or the brackets themselves? Shipped to Switzerland? That would be awesome! Tkanks.

Hey Manfred thanks! You just need to get a bit creative. Use a T-Bolt inside your track on the rack, and then use Rhino Rack bracket 31103 which is a bit longer and will reach far enough for you.

Is it possible to switch the places of the two accessories (ladder and box)? I have one of those triangle-shaped pop-up roof top tents and would love to use the OEM ladder of the Defender, instead of having to carry the tent ladder.

How much depth does the OVS take up? I have a large Thule Cargo box I use and I need an awning that can withstand high wind going to the Outer Banks on the beach a lot. Are the joints on the OVS solid, ie plastic welded etc?

I wouldn't use any awning in winds much over 10 MPH, but yes they are stout. It doesn't take any Depth, it mounts outside the roof rails

That would be wonderful! Tank size is my biggest complaint, hence carrying an extra 12 gallons on the roof.

Hi can you share the details of the brackets that you used to mount the Rhino Batwing to the Defender OEM roof rack. I noticed you have a rooftop tent on so I suppose you used an extended bracket to protrude the awing bracket away from the rooftop tent?

@@sushisean1 Doubt it the batwing mounting bracket barely reached the edge of the OEM Roof rack track. Maybe you are the using a different mounting bracket because the one that comes with the rhino batwing is not sufficiently long enough to securely mount. Maybe share a photo of your bracket?

Really personal preference. Did my best to outline the pros and cons of each. For me, I've stuck with the OVS due to durability. Both are available with a variety of mounts, I'm sure you could make one work for yours.

Great video - I used this in my decision to purchase the Rhino version given it is lighter and cheaper than the Overland. I can see that you attached the Rhino type to the Expedition roof rack - did you have to modify the brackets to suit or did yours come with the necessary fixings to install? Thanks.

The OVS awning can be mounted using the bracket coming with the awning. The Rhino Rack requires a separate bracket from them to be purchased.

The included bracket with the OVS works perfectly. For the Rhino rack you want part number 31103. Both would need a t bolt in the slot on your roof rack

You should've bought a passenger side awning. Much safer to drop the legs as you open the awning. IMO you shouldn't let it hang like that. The hinges are very weak.

Passenger side wont' work with our roof top tent config. The purpose of this comparison is to illustrate the pros and cons of different models. The OVS awning has proven flawless in plenty of wind without the legs, and when it gets to 15+ MPH, you can drop the built in legs no problem!

It should mount fine to any roof rack you have. They have different mounts for different types of racks.
