Beth is still in love with Quentin and has been helping him get to 1969. When she realizes that Petofi's mind is in Quentin's body, the results are shocking. Kitty continues to battle between her identity as Kitty and her identity as Josette.

Agree! I see blog postings that critique Terry Ann Crawford's performances during this storyline. I think otherwise. She did a good job portraying Beth who had a life filled with sadness and disappointment and little comfort from others.

I just want to add that Beth looked so beautiful in her last scenes. The green dress was perfect, as was her hairstyle, shawl and earrings. This all heightened my sadness that she was so unloved, used, misunderstood and never appreciated. I think in her own way Jenny may have cared about Beth as she listened and trusted her.

You are so right. Terry Crawford will return as a younger version of an 1897 character when Julia, Barnabas and Prof Stokes go to 1840 (individually). Her character is married to a major character but she only appears in 6 episodes spread out through the storyline.

@@darkshadowsfansunite8140 Glad I could make you aware of that. Beth was caring and gentle with Jenny. Yet as a complex character she became involved with Quentin. At first I thought that was awful but later I realized all the characters are complex. Given the social constraints on servants Beth would not have had much time to develop a love interest. Quentin took advantage of her.

My only complaint about 1897 is that it ended so abruptly and without certain stories resolved ...

There is more to come in 1897 . I don't know if these videos will show it but Petofi,Aristede,Trask and Evan Hanley get their comeuppance. The Petofi scene is great with Barnabas and Charity/Pansy being present as well as a new character who appears in a half dozen episodes.
