I managed to get in to check on a few things, here is one of a few videos I am putting together. It's getting closed in on all sides now, the lava is paralleling the road from green lake almost to the warm ponds on the makai side, in some spots as close as 100 feet,Heading towards Isaac Hale beach park..

Heartbreaking. Three houses were on the pond, 1968. We lived in one of them. Beautiful memories!

Wonderful video! Can you post more videos like this? It's so interesting to see these erupting steams in the sea.

Hi pokus, pretty crazy isn’t it? Did you notice the lava rushing into the ocean from the shoreline? I do have a lot of footage on my storage drive

That laze cloud is awesome. There was a lava tube on the walk back to secrets. As kids, we would swim in there - hot water lava tube. It was a healing place. Thanks Pele. What's next in store. Isaac Hale? I remember Queens Bath, Kalapana (Kailua) and other secrets. Love this video.

I am so grateful for this video. Heartbreaking, can't help tearing up. So many good memories with family and friends here. I always felt joy to be able to spend time in such a magical place, never took it for granted. Goodbye, Ahalanui, your warm embrace under the palms next to the breaking waves will live forever in memory.

What animals were you feeding? And why were they left behind? Wasn't there any way to trap them? I always feel concerned for the animals left behind in cases like this. The humans can get out but their pets are left to fend for themselves. Beautiful video. Mahalo for sharing.

Thank you so much for sharing this video. And sadly might be the last glimpse anyone might have of either beautiful spot. I've shared it on another forum so hopefully others will get a chance to see the beauty too, and share in the loss of what may be with those who have had the good fortune to have been there in person. Sadly in two trips to the Hilo/Puna area when we went to HVNP we didn't have time to explore more of that part of the island. My heart breaks for all of you who have lost so much physically and emotionally.

Well they got the new lifeguard pod out, that's a good thing. Very bittersweet to see the pond and remember many happy hours there. Still a chance the flow edge may stop before it reaches there...miracles can happen. It is very close now, and the vegetation is all so dead. Maybe those who have lived nearby or visited and loved it could start a sharing page for videos and photos of Ahalanui. Thanks for doing this, Tim.

This may be the very last video of a very special place. Secrets, warm ponds, the park, and school have all been taken. Generations to come will see how this newest creation of tutu Pele shapes up. Renewal is preceded by destruction, just as happened in this exact spot long ago, and will likely happen again. Death, birth, destruction, creation... Life on the edge of Kilauea. Puna, my heart aches.

Unfortunately, the law enforcement, DNLR, and civil defense are having problems deciding if humans besides themselves belong in the area, they have done a great job protecting properties they say, but I can't tell you that the animals there are being taken care of, it's up to nature to deal with domestic animals and wildlife at this point, sad but true...
