WONDERFUL job. Have you tried to paint/mask the two lights by the new fence in black BUT only on the backside of the light, it might stop the lights going on the backdrop or at least reduce the brightness of the light....

I was thinking the opposite as built up area's tended to not have completely black sky's due to light pollution so in theory the light on the backscene might be OK to stay.

Always a bonus when a video lands. Lots of little bits but they make a big difference. Regarding the light spill onto the background, have you thought of painting the far side of the light black? The downside is that you’d lose the light that you DO want on the platform. Merry Christmas.

That first shot with the trains passing was brilliant, really captured the atmosphere of a platform on a crisp night.

The West Hill Wagon works information board, that you said was given away at a show, was given away by them, in conjunction with Dave at Dean Park, at Model Rail Scotland 2023! I actually got one at the show, but didn't use it on the station. Instead, I sprayed mine blue, then added the information sheets to it, and placed it at the end of the pedestrian precinct, linking the High Street with the retail park, in the area where my Scotmid Co-op is. Basically, I've used mine for bus information, as the bus station, which will be visible in the rebuilt Postings shopping centre, is next to that!

Great work! I still think it would be a really interesting addition to add lighting etc under the scenic break end of the station, to give the impression of the 'indoor' section of the station continuing out of sight towards the fiddle yard. Never seen that done on a layout so far.
@EverardJunction11 ай бұрын
I had originally intended to do that but it would show the trains entering the fiddle yard & the tight curves under the scenic break. Would end up spoiling the illusion, need more space really.

Lighting is brilliant! (no pun intended!) Really creates the realism of a nighttime scene.
@ep198111 ай бұрын
A useful and completely 'light proof' mask is that aluminium foil tape you can get for HVAC or other ventilation systems. You can cut it very small with a knife, and it's really thin (basically the thickness of kitchen foil). I have used it to block out annoying lights on things like internet routers etc. or on security cameras. Might be an option here, in a thin enough strip affixed to the part of the lamp that is out of view? Alternatively an advertising board in the right place would block the light from the back scene.

Always love your videos. Regarding the light hitting the backdrop…if you were to paint the backs of those two fixtures black and glue a tiny piece of plastic across the back of both globes, it would minimize the “spotlight” effect to be able to pass as ambient light from the city beyond the wall. Just an idea.
@ZiggyLaCont11 ай бұрын
That is superb!! Love the weathering on the Class 47. 👍
@ajmatthews770011 ай бұрын
Highly realistic! I like the little touches such as the pigeon on the platform clock. I wouldn't worry too much about the light reflecting off the back scene. You said yourself there's light pollution, so it would be a common effect of city lights from the area behind the wall reflecting off clouds.
@EverardJunction11 ай бұрын

Thanks very much. It's not easy editing the videos in this way and adds a lot of time. I think it's important to bring the viewer on the complete journey of a project. It's much easier to build something and then film the completed item, but nobody understands how it was actually made. Cheers

Looks amazing! You’ve done such a great job, your eye for detail is really inspiring 👍🏼 I had idea for the light spilling onto the back scene would be to try some black-tack on the back of the platform lamps where you can’t see it. It’s exactly the same problems we face in theatre lighting and the solution is things like shutters on the lights etc. if you experiment with the black tack, you can always refine it to a piece of plasticard or something, it wouldn’t have to be tall to just get that light to hit the wall rather than the back scene. Looking forward to your next video 🤙🏼 hope Christmas is good for ya! 🎄

Lamp bases: actually, some platform lights do have a base. If you do an image search for NYC Subway Ocean Parkway Platform, you'll see that they have a little flange base. Bolts are set into the concrete platform, the lamppost is fasten with washers and nuts to the bolts, then a sheet metal flange is put over the NBW to give it a clean look. They do the same thing here with streetlights too. It makes it easier to replace / upgrade the lighting without having to patch concrete.

brilliant as ever.regarding the platform lighting on the back scene..I can see what you mean..how about blanking off the rear side of the lamp,maybe a few coats of matt black so the light doesn't shine against the back scene?
@Simon-Davis11 ай бұрын
Something you can try to help with the light reflecting on the backscene is some duct tape on the rear of the lights; the proper stuff for air systems and lagging insulation, not the sticky grey stuff you'd use in conjunction with a hammer to fix a Landrover Defender! As it is effectively self adhesive aluminium foil, it completely stops light and is thin enough to not be visible from the front or sides when shaped properly. I learned this trick 25 odd years ago when doing the fire exit signs for a cinema complex, it was effective enough to stop the light bleed from the edges of the clear Perspex signs I was installing from reflecting on the screens.

Amazing work. Would it be worth adding some black paint to the back of the lights at the far side of the station to stop the light spill over onto the sky? Also minor detail but NSE at most stations had a larger station sign at the platform slops with the additional works "Network South East" & "Welcome to [Station]"

Fantastic as always. Just a thought on the light on the backscene, would a very low relief background building help, perhaps an old warehouse? The station lighting would then just illuminate the building instead of hitting the backscene. Probably a bit late now though!

For the lights, if at all possible, I'd black out the side of the lights facing the backboard with black paint so the light only illuminates the platform up to the brick wall to keep the light from splashing onto the backboard.

As I have discovered when trying to not light a backdrop or a flat surface with incidental light, a light coating of "Light Beam B-Gone" spray is most beneficial. It is a little hard to find these days, and I only have two small spray cans of Beam B-Gone left in my stash, but it is a worthwhile product regardless.

Looks amazing as always but something that jumped out to me in the platform, wall and ballasting montage was those points. It would be very strange for that set of points that leads out of the sidings to be simple hand points. At the very least I'd expect them to be interlocked with a phone and some equipment to get release from the controlling signaler. More likely is they'd be a normal set of motorised points working as pair with their opposite on the mainline.
