Excellent progress with just one minor omission. The four men around the slide was the ideal opportunity to model one of them with a clipboard, in which case it would be the perfect representation of four people from the local council employed to do the work of one! Would fit in very well with a 1980s layout! Loved the Capri tailgating. Reminds me of my time owning a Capri! Great idea for the fixing the car at the side of the road. Something we used to do regularly, whereas now I dare not lift the cover they put over the engine to discourage you going near a mass of sensors and computers to do what a distributor and points managed to do all on their own. I love the lock up garages. Looks like there might have once been a house in the gap that may have been destroyed, during the blitz for example, and the garages have been built rather than another house. Nice work as always.

Your scenics are looking good. I like the car repair idea Preiser made a nice set of tools if you can find them Bausatz Kit 18356. It has hand tools including a wheel brace. The playground figures. My first thought was the elf n safety inspectors making notes of what to take away from the kids. I remember that happening at our local playground in the 80's. They took away the teapot lid roundabout Said it was too dangerous

I agree with filler. When doing any sort of paving, I prefer it. As you said, you can't always do it, but, wherever possible, it comes across as the best. From Josef Brandl to Luke Towan, it is the choice many pros. The housing looks great, and the play area was the perfect addition. Excellent work, as always.

Though I used to regularly take my son to various model railway exhibitions and had a train as a kid I was never a hobbyist. Yet what amazed me at these exhibitions was never the trains but the terrific attention to detail people made to their surround model's world. For me some of these crossed a line and stopped being the work of obsessive modellers but became art. It's like that here, you want to look through windows, in gardens and oh, and under bonnets! It's a visual feast, brilliant. So why waste an afternoon at the Tate..?

Great Richard always great to watch and learn from. I had a 2.0 Capri Ghia back in the day as a very young student nurse with one of the first auto-reverse cassette desks. Before that I had a Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with overdrive and a Sprint bonnet. The cam belt went on the way to bowling one night :( I also had an axle break on a MKII Cortina. I can't beleive I used ot change my own break pads back then as I was poor.

Another excellent video. I know this might sound a bit excessive, but it would be really cool if aside from the usual streetlights, telegraph poles and road signs, you could also put in the likes of manholes, drain covers, hydrant covers, electrical boxes, waste paper bins and winter grit boxes. I know you love your realism and detail and that would seem a great way of adding a little more.

My tingly senses have been buzzing all week, and yet again here you are haha. Pleasure watching as always, watching the scenery master at work. Definitely the right decision with the paths, and the different garden styles work and contrast well again the other gardens. I like the garages, very stereotypical of the 80s, nice work on the motor too. The other Richard did a real good job with his behind the scenes, I honestly didn't realise how low the layout is, you probably did tell us the measures during the building of the base, but it's only when you see it in perspective does it hit home. Loved the "slave" cameo appearance in one of his videos too, made me chuckle. Keep up the awesome work and always keep it fun and not a KZbin chore.

you gotta add some rubbish on that garage roof that passengers have thrown out of the train windows. Maybe even some in the gardens too. I love that play park!! You could add some fine mesh stuff (like what you used on the old fueling points) to represent the rubber tile thingies, that way you can have the prototypical grass growing in the holes XD

Really impressive, what a huge difference a few bushes make to the gardens. Few quick observations I remember from the 1980s, there would always be a back garden with some improbable ancient vehicle in it like a traction engine or large removals van that you could never work out how they'd got it in. Maybe one of those lawns could be a bit more yellow? They all look the same. I realise you won't see much of them though. Love the Capri, needs a trail of oil... Matchbox made a Mk1 Capri with separate engine detail (Corgi did a Mk3) both 1/64 but if you ever do another similar one it might be easier/ quicker to put in an engine from one of those? Swings need a kid standing on the street not sitting. :-) Keep up the great work.

Hey Richard. Fantastic video. I get an alert every-time a new video is posted by yourself. I love the scenery! A couple of things. Not sure about the UK but in Canada if you had a garage that that there would be 'No Parking' signs all over that alley! And a couple of benches for mums and dads in the playground... that's all nitpicking of course. Great video. Please keep making them as I draw lots of inspiration from your tips and tricks on railroading.

Plenty of details to add as I've only just started with this area. I'm modelling the UK as it was 30 years ago and there was indeed much less signage around. I was thinking of perhaps doing a spray painted no parking on one of the garage doors.

Was agreeing with you about the pavements before you re-did them, and remembered that way back in the late 60s, we used some Superquick printed pavements (flagstones), which if I remember was just a paper that you pasted down. They lasted very well until the layout was dismantled and thrown out about 5 or 6 years ago. I was amazed when Mr Google told me it's still available! Might be worth a look if there's somewhere you need flagstone pavements?

Fascinating as usual. A couple of thoughts. How about a half cut lawn? Low cut grass over whole plot, then mask some off, then thicker grass. Placing the lawnmower at the point the phone rang and the owner popped indoors? And are 00 gauge cats available? Always a cat on a wall or shed roof sunning itself. I hope you don't mind the suggestions.

3:42 When you go to paint the roadway that was cut out. Paint it a shade darker, make it look like a street that had some work done on it that need repair, which it was. You may be able to have the construction joint work for you. Nice video, thanks for posting.

I’d love to see a video covering your lighting setup in the attic! Makes the layout wonderfully bright and colourful - however, on that note, have you ever considered creating an alternative, more atmospheric, lighting setup? For instance, the harsh, warm, morning sun streaming through the gaps between houses etc. Etc. As a filmmaker, this side of modelling interests me massively, which I’m unable to find any coverage on across most of the internet!

The MCW Metropolitan by Britbus has a openable engine cover that could be useful if you don't feel like scratch building. The cover for my Greater Manchester Transport version came off after a cat related incident lol.

looking good ! idk if it helps (coz' You probably thought about it more then I have ) but there is still heaps more that You could add to this scene ie: street signs , street lights , line markings on the road , man-hole covers (someone below already mentioned that one - kudos ! ) , water drain grills in the road , rubbish bins , letter boxes , phone boxes (remember them ? - lol ) , park benches , advertising billboards , power/phone line poles and cables , wild life (like birds , ally cats , ppl walking their dogs on a leash) , BUT most of all it should be kids in that playground and not business-men . I know , i know - the 'team building exercise' was a joke - but a couple of kids flying a kite could be a good challenge ( trick is finding a very thin & stiff wire ) :)

Will you be adding drains and manholes etc in the road? I think a nice traditional red phone box would sit nice on the corner and take out of a couple of the glass panels to reflect on the 80s Asbo's that vandalize phone boxes. Plus cable/BT boxes with some graffiti would be cool. Fantastic as always any way and no doubt you will think of things most of us woudnt lol

Me too. I've only got a little two up-two down, but the good news is it's got a slate roof and only a few cross-beams. Recently re-aquired my old DC train set stuff from my parents house after they down sized. Bad news is looking at my budget and how much the hobby costs these days if you really get into it. Very, very tempted though.
