Very intriguing to see and the open source aspect could open things to a wide audience and bring real value to light guns. The Sinden is the only one that I have seen that offers close to something affordable for many but I also think that there is scope to bring prices much lower for the masses (in turn likely leading to new light gun game development). We shall see. If the Pico is at the centre of things then the scope for decent pricing might seem attainable, with the company also being able to make money from selling complete units direct and coming up with all manner of design concepts to choose from.

It would be cool if these solutions were available for those arcade games that came with RPTVs running 15k such as Mad Dog McCree or House of the Dead for example. So if the screen fails a Short Throw Protection TV could be put in place and one of these modern solutions could work with it inside the original gun housing,

This is incredibly exciting! Looking forward to seeing more about these. My only concern at the moment is what appears to be a lack of additional buttons on the guns. Hopefully they've been provided feedback about that, as it's extremely important for modern gun games.
@Props3D11 ай бұрын
On the Vyper There's 2 buttons in the foregrip, the trigger, magazine is pull to reload, the select fire works, there's a dpad on the side with two supplement buttons, and a foot petal. Number of buttons does vary by model but there's always at least 3 buttons to work with modern games.
@goldenretrogames11 ай бұрын
@@Props3D That's great to hear. Would be great if the minimum was tigger + 3 buttons. Having a d-pad/stick and additional 2 buttons on guns that have space is great too! Any idea when the minimum distance will be from the screen? I know that many people have large screens and have a seating area pretty close. Gun4IR isn't too bad with the ultra-wide lens. Sinden needs more space, since it doesn't have as wide a view. If it's possible to further expand on what Gun4IR can do, that will open the door for people to use them with larger screens.
@Props3D11 ай бұрын
@@goldenretrogames I have a laser range finder and a tripod head with an angle gauge that I want to use to give exact numbers for that. I refuse to have white borders so the Sinden light gun is out and the Gun4IR is a little on the pricey side so hopefully these guns are as accurate as the Sinden without the white boarder’s and priced in the same ball park as well and I will get a pair of them. I’m getting ready to build a new MAME cabinet and I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to use my 25” CRT arcade monitor or buy a 32” OLED for way easier setup but less authentic
@stevetb777711 ай бұрын
I actually pulled the 25" CRT out of my cab and replaced it with a 48" OLED in vertical orientation. Long story short, this is the most flexible setup I've ever seen. The only real downside is relating to light guns. There is no space for sensors on top or bottom, only on the sides. I suppose they could be on top/bottom but they would be blocking screen space. I'm not sure if any IR guns out there can work with only side sensors.

@zemi27509 ай бұрын
Key components they should focus on for these to take advantage of the gap: 1. More or same amount of buttons as Sinden. 2. Front End integration (or point to directory of emulator/driver with game file manager executable). 3. Single and Auto mode button shortcut. 4. Power hub/Power Y-splitter cord (less spaghetti cord mess). There is a big gap between Sinden and Gun4IR, not only in price range but on ease of use, compatibility and power. Sinden: High compatibility, non friendly software, not enough power (by design), complicated/non optimal 2 player set up, no plastic molding & sort off mid-range pricing. Gun4IR: Best gun on the market, strong recoil, low compatibility (lack of buttons), and absurd price-range. If they can find a mid-high level between these too, they got a hit. With Retro Shooter v2 being a compelling buy as a turn key solution, they better do their research, and that's without mention if Retro Shooter or similar does a wireless version later on.. so they better have a good plan.

I'm interested to know the technology behind this but it is going to be hard to beat JB's Gun4IR, it just works so well and customisable to your liking. Hey Ralph! Question: Why does AimTrak not get any love these days?
@RetroRalph11 ай бұрын
Really Old Tech at this point. Nothing wrong with it but with better options now, people are starting to move on from it. It really all depends on if you're happy with the AimTrak performance. If so and it still works for ya, no need to switch. For me personally, I always felt like AimTrak performance just wasn't quite good enough. These newer solutions have much faster response times, so it helps bring that real arcade feel back.
