This guy is good at avoiding answers that people really want. I pray this will be a rwd drive v8 or v6 with supercharger or turbo. I really don't car for these new eco engines in fords. Also would be awesome if suicide doors is an optional add on.

They saw that rebadging fwd suv's as Lincolns didn't work, now their bringing back the Continental badge. It had better be RWD and offer a V8 option or they can forget it!

The Continental will almost certainly be powered by a 3.0L twin-turbo V6, with 400 bhp or so going to all four wheels. That's more than adequate to accelerate a full-size luxury car to 60 in less than 5 seconds. The people who buy $60-$120k luxury sedans don't care about cylinder configuration, and they aren't buying the vehicle for racing. The consumers this car is aimed at are interested in creature comforts, premium quality materials, safety, and overall refinement.

Now that is a car!! Ford has hit it out of the park, and I predict they will sell insanely well... I would rather have the Lincoln then the Benz S class any day...Drop in the biggest V8 or V10 and send out the power by an old fashioned rear wheel drive. Market it as the best of the old and the new...

@ Deb B I had several Tbirds and a Mark VIII as well. Its a shame that many people dont know about the Mark, and the fact that the Cobra Mustang used that motor. In fact the new Coyote is based off of it. I put 300k on my Mark and got rid of it recently because it just needed too much stuff, and I dont have the time anymore. I ended up with a Lexus SC430 hard top, but still miss my Mark, and despite the Lexus having a faster 0-60, my Mark VIII felt like it could run circles around my new car - it was one of the best cars I had despite the common annoying issues. If you stayed on top of these issues and fix them correctly, you usually wont see the same thing break again, with the exception of the air shocks, bushings, and remaining suspension components if you are keeping the car for another 10-12 years after changing them. They made a Mark IX concept based on the retro Tbird, but they really screwed up with the retro bird, with many things. It was a cool car, but just not refined, especially for a $50-$55k car. I think they are working on a new Mark, and are waiting until after the new Continental is out, to really push the new Mark along.

They don't have a rwd platform except for the Mustang - this is a longer Mondeo. Ford's just stopped production of the Falcon, which would've done nicely. As it is, this goes against the six cylinder E and S Class Mercedes and 7 Series BMW and it's going to bite the dust when people want *handling or *eight cylinders. Goodnight, Lincoln. I'll keep the Mulsanne the studio gave me.

Comment section idiots: This isn't a BMW and you probably won't be able to afford one anyway. The reason he never mentioned 0-60 once wasn't because he doesn't know what it is, it's because that's not and really has never been the focus of Lincoln as a brand. It's supposed to be a sedated riding, or possibly _driving_ experience. To take you from A to B in the most comfort, rather than the most speed. To be the ultimate in _effortless movement_ . There was a time when speed and agility were second to refinement and driving comfort. If you want speed and nothing more, buy an Acura.

+UsernameUser Hello, would you pay probably $45-$50K for a V6 FWD bentley clone? I have it on good authority that this car is going to be V6 FWD. Personally, I'd rather have the V12 Bentley. Have a nice day.
@usernameuser5573
@usernameuser5573 8 жыл бұрын
Charles Mitchell Yeah, except this will cost half to a quarter as much as a Bentley, if not less. If you own a Continental, you own more than one car. This car doesn't need to be fast because you've already got another car designated for that purpose. And why should I care that it's a FWD V6? Why does everything need to be fast these days? Not everything is designed for the track. "I'd rather have a Bentley" I'd rather have a blowjob from Jesus Christ, but that's not going to happen. That's like saying "Why buy a Ford Fiesta when you can buy a Koenigsegg CCX?" Absolutely retarded argument there. This car is designed for the pleasure and ease of driving in a relaxed manner, not burning rubber like a hoon. And it's not a _Bentley Clone_

+Charles Mitchell I had had numerous Lincolns in my 45 years of driving, and welcome this one too,,, whether its 80K, 90K, or whatever. Those that WANT and can afford this vehicle could equally afford a Z06, for another reason, a Shelby Mustang at 83K, also for another reason, and wouldn't dare drive either during a bad winter. This vehicle is for a specific consumer that wants the ride characteristics and rewards himself/herself with the choice of driving it for their reasons, without resorting to driving the foreign luxury competitor cars, at quite a premium in price. Just my thoughts, thanks .... and my 98 Mark VIII collectors edition is still in my garage for THAT car's nuances and pleasure of driving for that time. :)

Most of the commenters below are just babbling about nothing, the car is shown as a concept they would not give away anything about it until it is ready for the Market, it is all about creating a buzz and also feedback from the motoring press, also in the US market it is a direct competitor to Cadillac and it isn't a coincidence that it was released to coincide with the new Caddy, it has stolen GMs thunder again! Mustang, GT, and now Lincoln! Ford is on a roll while at GM heads would roll! The best looking car out of the US for years well done FORD!!

+saddist1Gtown yeah I think this concept is slick and if I had the money it would be on my list of cars to check out. I think the chrome is a bit excessive, and I don't really care about the back seat so I wouldn't want to waste money on all those amenities back there. I think it looks a lot like the Jag XJ, which isn't bad, but I'd probably prefer the XJ. Still, a much better look than some of Lincoln's current models IMO. Some of them are just plain ugly and Lincoln is in need of a revival. This be huge for them as long as the reliability is good.

By avoiding to answer if it will be RWD with suicide doors, he was saying no.The car will be a large Taurus and won't be able to compete with Mercedes or BMW 7 series. Ford needs to take some styling risks and design a car that people will stop and look when they see one on the street. A four door convertible would be nice also.

This guy sounds more like a politician than a car guy... and from certain angle it reminisces of the Ford Taurus- a FWD Car. To really compete they have to go RWD with the option of AWD and 400+ HP. Ford is on a roll with their product lines (the up coming Focus RS, Mustang GT350 Cobra, and F150 Raptors feels young and relevant but all the Lincoln line up are hopped up FWD Fords (not good looking) that aims toward the baby boomers market. If they continue this route with face lifting their FWDs maybe in a few years they can become like ACURA ..

The Taurus SHO has AWD, and is a quite competent premium sport sedan in its own right. You can bet that the lowest-priced Continental will be at least 50% more expensive than the most well-equipped SHO; with that in mind, AWD and a potent twin turbo V6 are both almost certain to be standard equipment. As the GT (a $250k hypercar - powered by a tuned 3.5L Ecoboost V6) shows, Ford is in the process of phasing out V8 engines altogether. The Mustang will likely be the last holdout, but even it too will eventually succumb to the intrinsic advantages of AWD, smaller displacement, fewer cylinders, and forced induction.

Escape for Mankind I know. It still has some disadvantages. First, about a hundred kilograms more. Second, more drivetrain loss (less power from engine delivered to wheels). Third, more parts that can break. Four, slightly higher fuel consumption (however this is not much an issue). Five, homokinetic joints on front axle, which means larger turning circle radius compared to RWD. If you don't live in area with much snow, or you don't drive on some muddy roads, you really don't need AWD. I simply don't want my front wheels being driven. RWD is the purest driving experience.

Oddly enough, I heard this is based on the Fusion Platform, and that it will be AWD. The front wheels are way too close to the driver for it to be RWD. I think Lincoln isn't taking into account that consumers want vehicles with certain pedigrees and a full size lurxury sedan based on sub 30k family sedan won't cut it.

The revival of the Lincoln Continental should be like the old epitome of luxury cars as it was back in the days, and uncomparable towards any other competition in a luxury level! Lincoln being an American luxury should not even be compared to a Honda or Toyota for the sake of luxury & class! The brand should have no competition and no luxury vehicle besides cadillac, bentley or rolls royce that can be compared to it's legacy!! And if Ford/Lincoln has any integrity these days, that they would stop bending over for China and charge the Middle East, European or Asian the highest price possible for American Luxury or sport brand vehicles! ..

This president of Ford doesn't know his stuff. What Lincoln doesn't get - and this board of directors doesn't get - is to make a car that gives you choices that other cars do NOT have. Center opening doors is the elephant in the room. Why can't it have it? Give us the reason. How about extreme ride control - push a button and get the softest silent cushiony ride ever, or press SPORT and get a harder BMW style ride all in one car. Get it? Give a compelling reason to buy. Get to work, I have stock. Design is nice. Looks like a modernized Bentley. Nice job. But there are no things you can't get everywhere else. And seriously - mention of President Kennedy, you DON'T bring up the assassination!!!! Jack's personal car was a Lincoln Continental (not counting the presidential limo's). So was Sinatra's.

People that are spending this kind of money, want the best. They do not want junk, they want to be #1. We all have heard of keeping up with the Jone's. You cannot put a car up against a Bentley, 550 Mercedes Benz. Theses cars have 500 to 800 horse power. When you are in one either driving or passenger you want people to look at you. This is what they want. If you want to act like your something and not buy a Kai, or a Hyundai. They also make a POS, and that is what you get. I really hope Ford, Lincoln listen and go all out take the 6.2 or 5.0 and put twin turbos, add the suicide doors, build it to the extreme.

Well, Ford/Lincoln has dropped the ball once again. Instead of making the return of the vaunted "Continental" name something unique and spectacular, they simply stretched a plebian Fusion CD4 FWD platform and wrapped it in overly generic-looking bodywork. Too much of the body design was borrowed from other marques. The grille is Jaguar. The headlights are Acura. The tail end treatment is Audi. And the profile is decidedly Bentley-esque. The most disappointing feature of all, however, is the drivetrain. Instead of a proper RWD/longitudinal engine layout, Ford chose to use a cheaper, less sophisticated FWD layout with a sideways engine. This, sadly, gives the car the unmistakable proportions of an entry-level or below FWD car. The dash-to-axle ratio is painfully short and the front overhang is dismally long compared to other cars in its price range with proper RWD platforms. This is going to be the downfall of Lincoln. FWD does not belong in the premium luxury segment. That's exactly why Cadillac, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus, Infiniti, Audi, hell...even Hyundai and Kia all offer RWD/Rear-Biased AWD and longitudinal engine layouts with V-8 engine options in their premium-priced luxury cars. Lincoln, at this point, can't compete with any of them with what they offer now. It's sad.

Errors on the car already. You can't see the bottom of the instrument panel as the steering wheel obstructs it. The nice chrome console will reflect light into the windshield and into the drivers and passenger's eyes. And the front is once again, ugly. Try something along the lines of the cordoba, with the thin vertical close finned grill raking backwards at the top, hidden door headlights, and thin vertical marker/directional lights at the front of the fenders, also raking backwards. Think: the 1969 mark 3 just more oh, aerodynamic. After all, that was one of the best looking Lincolns ever made. Oh yeah, BTW I drive a Mark VIII. The last of the hot rod, luxury Lincolns. And if you want to plant your name on something, the Lincoln moniker would be a good one. MARK. Get it? Make it your pet project. And make it something to be proud YOUR NAME is on. The Mark 8 was close. Make the Mark 9 the fastest Lincoln ever, just use all that technical know how to make it be able to switch from the great air ride, to sports car handling. Oh yeah, and THOSE WHEELS ARE UGLY AS SIN. They look like pinwheels. You're not seriously considering spinning rims, are you? Because that's what they look like.

The key for Lincoln is to revive its brand as a quality vehicle. I realize cost is an issue, but that's where innovation must grab center-stage. Afficionados know that Lincoln was historically known for the smoothest rides on the road. They dominated Caddy and every other car in this and the styling metrics (in my opinion). Their modern offerings like the MKS and MKZ are an embarassment to quality and clearly indicate a total loss of focus. I rented one of these last year and writhed in horror as the suspension bottomed out on every other bump in the road. I'm still mourning the downward spiral of this one-time luxury brand. The Ford Fusion - a high quality mid-range vehicle that outperforms Lincolns high-end offering by far - is one great example they might consider building on.

They are not giving what people that buy lincoln want such as: luxury (yes), reliability (my friends mkz started to get serious damage after 2 years, my town car still drives after 16 years), best of best (not anymore with silly V6 engines, people that buy such an expensive car don't bother with that, they want V8), Desgin (if you want a toyota with a lincoln logo, go ahead), attention to detail (that's history).... so what are they doing: focusing on the needs of housewifes that want cheap fuel efficient soft riding cars, and nothing that made a luxury car or a lincoln car stand out. Stand out in everything listed above, quality, luxury, looks, and what it can do under the hood.

+CentralNintendo1 it doesn't matter about car engines anymore look at BMW , mercedes or other luxury brand they do have V6 gas or diesel engines in them i mean my uncle have BMW 730 with a V6 supercharged from the factory but lincoln are getting back in the game strongly & since when toyota looked like lincoln ? unless they coped them .
@CentralNintendo1
@CentralNintendo1 8 жыл бұрын
mohammadkwt I mean the general vehicle design, it doesn't have to look like a toyota, it was just what I always see when I see a MKS or MKZ. They don't stand out that much. When you buy a luxury car you don't want it to look like every other vehicle and let it blend in right?

Each brand of car should have it's own style and identity. There's nothing really all that special and distinguished going for this car, look at the face of it and you can see that it looks too much like a Jaguar XJ.

Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door. That concept has NEVER changed. Once upon a time 'Quality is job one'. That MUST return. Build a good car, and take criticism from everyone who brings it. When we look back at other American products, we always see flaws, flaws that a whole lot of people knew were there, but the bean counters left there to save a few dollars. You can't do that with a premium product and expect to have it sell repeatedly to the same consumers. You need people to LOVE your car, and know that there's NOTHING wrong with it, that every piece will work perfectly. If trim pieces fall off, your sales will fall off. If brakes fail, people won't buy another lincoln. You want to know how many sales you lost because of the exploding pinto fiasco? Millions. Sure, you spent less by paying off the victims, but you lost all the potential sales because you didn't be responsible and FIX YOUR ERRORS! And now Ford is going to compete in the GT category in the sports car world again. Remember how Henry II won in the sixties; go big or go home. You do anything half heartedly and you're going to lose, and be wasting your time.

This man is simply another corporate "numbers" man with no passion for the product or design in general. He answers in trend analysis, statistics and general corporate rhetoric. Lincoln should assign one man who has the passion for the brand--a man who understands the glorious history of Edsel Ford's dream. As history will tell--all great motorcars (past & present) had one man's design and theme behind it (Enzo Ferrari, William O Bentley, Sir William Lyons, Sir Henry Royce, Giovanni Agnelli, Ettore Bugatti, etc). Once upon a time--owning a Lincoln was a very desirable and prestigious place to be. This car has big potential--but, I will bet when it's time for production, it will have a weak engine and all the design elements that the public is praising in the concept car will be lost. What sells cars are well-built and reliable machines, superb craftsmanship and above all--exciting and beautiful designs that make people want the car.

Kiko Mura Bingo. They've had ugly grills for 20 years now, just like bmw. UGLY. I don't care if it is a trademark 'look'. It's UGLY. Example: They had a good look with the original mark 8. Then in 1997, they screwed up the grill to make it ugly. WHY? Just to change something? Change IS NOT ALWAYS GOOD! You could have made it better, instead you made it worse, and sales tanked. So, Get that idea out of your mind. Idea? Set up a corporate email address and ask your employees for suggestions, and you HAVE TO make it anonymous, or else most won't tell you anything, because they'll be afraid of going against the next level of management.

Rolls Royce owns the rights to use "suicide doors". You could still make those style doors, it would just be complicated because you'd have to call them something else. Plus people would be used to calling them suicide doors and stuff, i just don't think they want any legal issues which is why they didn't put them on this car.

saddist1Gtown No i'm not... Were they called "suicide doors" by Mazda? And General Motors has those style doors on their Extended cab pick-up trucks, and so does Ford and Dodge. But the difference is, Rolls Royce can call them suicide doors, however the other companies can't. It's all just a bunch of copyright bullshit.
