Am I the only one not digging the crazy puffy sleeves? It makes me feel old to dislike them so much, my younger sewing buddy loves them.
@marinelab3 жыл бұрын
I'm an inverted triangle and these puffy sleeves are not flattering at all on me! It is just a matter of proportions. People with narrower shoulders, wider hips, or all the other body type (except the inverted triangle) can rock the puff sleeves.

"It makes me feel old to dislike them so much" Interesting take. The way I've always seen it, puff sleeves are inherently old. Even as a kid in the early 00's, I wasn't a fan of puff sleeves. For me, they always drum up imagery of those stupid rich people dresses in those really old paintings from the era when people wore taxidermy birds on their heads and arsenic-based foundation. So I find it kinda hard to see how disliking a fashion trend started literally hundreds of years ago could make someone feel 'old'.

Nope, I’m with you, they’re just too much for me although I’ve never worn them but I’m not about to start either!

I loved them in the 80’s but now I’m too old now :(

I’m petite at 5’3” and 124 pounds and big sleeves make me look like my clothes are eating my arms. I keep any sleeves more moderately puffy instead of big balloons. 😳🤪🤦♀️😂

LOL! Totally with you on the asymmetrical tops, asymmetrical anything really. Enjoyed that little rant. Besides that, I liked this collection, the dresses especially. I may make that cut out back one. Finally some pretty clothes WITH SHAPE!

I always have a long list of what I want to sew, but never sew as much as I want. I like to buy patterns for my collection of someday sews. I want the wrap top and the button down blouse with big sleeves! And the dresses!

So good to have you back! Missed you while you were off sick. I hope you are feeling a lot better. I love a few of these but not sure I'll fit all of them. I too do not consider myself plus-size (I'm possible just a touch smaller than you are) yet to think I might possibly not fit these patterns seems crazy. I'm not sure why they couldn't do two size ranges for each pattern to make the designs more inclusive. From a business perspective (if nothing else) would you it want as many people buying your patterns as possible? Easiest way to do this would be to widen the size range.

I REALLY look forward to your first impression videos! I do get excited to see the new styles overall and of course I love your dialog! Cracks me up! No back seam on the pants! LOL!!

Yayyy! Glad you're back! I liked a lot of this collection...not so much the dresses cuz I'm not so much into prairie chic, but the lawyer look top and skirt, the paperbag pull on pants and some of the tops like the wrap top, I really like! (With you on that asymmetrical top though). New Look i think is my jam...for me, it feels like a nice balance between on trend and classic casual.

Lela Rose Spring 2018 - pencil skirt and collared crop top. Doesn’t look like moms work suit at all. I think with a few tweaks NL 6697 could be so cute and I’m grabbing this pattern so that I can dupe the designer.

I bought the skirt with the cool seams. Haven't made it yet. Not sure what type of fabric I want to use. I'm glad you're doing these 1st impression videos again.

Sewing a bunch of elastic channels are great for fabrics that don’t want to shirr. This would probably be a good pattern to pick up, just to learn how to do it.

It is also great for sewists who have cheaper or older machines. Those machines don't have easy regulation of bobin thread tension. And I really like that they give customers different technique

I like the white wrap blouse and the dress with the green and white flowers. My hip is 44 which I also don't consider plus size but I'm out of the range on the bottoms. I get that they are cheap and going for mass appeal but I bet most sewists are on the larger end of the size spectrum since we're not teenagers anymore. My daughter wears a size zero in ready to wear and is a 12 in sewing patterns! Thanks for the review.

Sizes are all over the place for me. Anywhere from a 6 to a 14 depending on the pattern and sometimes needing to combine 2 sizes. Not typical for me. I think they are cute though overall and I love 6698 with the straight sleeves!

i bought the new look with the tie back and i was thinking that snaps would be easier to close by myself than buttons.

also, did you do the simplicity summer collection and i just missed it somehow? i am curious to see what you think of that one because it's such a departure from the minimalist "eileen fisher-esque" aesthetic

Maybe the bow on the back of the 6696 is sewn on already tied so you only have to contend with the button?
@cassandrad9503 жыл бұрын
I sometimes think the reason they don’t all go to the same biggest size is because they can’t fit the pattern piece on the fabric anymore like without doing a total new layout/marker? Idk no proof just a theory. New Look always seem very reasonable for fabric use (compared to say McCalls) like they are keeping in mind how narrow to make the pieces to consume less fabric

At my local Joann Fabrics they did away with the catalogs and the drawers of New Look. The patterns on the wall is all they have. Wonder what that’s about?
@theresasmith10003 жыл бұрын
i know! really disappointing!
@InsidetheHem3 жыл бұрын
Ours is the same way. I think it’s easier for new sewists to shop for the patterns that way?! Just scan the wall, grab and go. Maybe?!
@stephaniemendes52873 жыл бұрын
I've noticed the same thing at both of the Joann's that are in my area! I have even asked the sales people if they know what is going on. It's really disappointing as I love New Look patterns. I hope they are not discontinuing them and maybe getting ready for a new re-branding or something?

Sewing wisdom “unless you do like 45 push ups a day, it’s hard not to have this look saggy”. Yes. this is absolutely true!

That's funny, Lindsey. The one-shoulder top that you really dislike is the only one I like. The dresses are too frou-frou and boring. The one-shoulder top looks good on inverted triangle types. It helps cut the wide shoulder line, while looking feminine and cute. Just my opinion, love your videos! 🤩 Ps. Nix on the one sleeve, though. Too much.

You may not have to unbutton or untie the back of the dress with the tie detail that is why the side zipper...dont discourage folks to try it by stating incorrect info....
