So Cathay features in the CORE RULEBOOK with a smallish lore section I guess this is Game Workshop's way of remaining everyone that Cathay is in fact confirmed for The Old World and may release sooner than we think?

The empty throne bit is pre-existing lore regarding a 4 century long period called the era of darkness and disharmony which was practically a civil war between the dragon children amongst themselves and the Monkey King which was ended when the latter occupied Wei-Jin for a time uniting the dragon sibling to remove him and succeeding once the dragon emperor and moon empress returned and forced the monkey king to retreated to the mountains of haven.

@@firstname3343 Would've liked the old Pygmies too after enough rebooting. I mean they are almost as short if not equally short as Dwarfs yet they can hunt down Coatls. And they ride giant sized gorillas too if I remember correctly. A testament to their prowess as hunters and beast riders.

I could see GW publishing further Army compediums in time. 1 New world : Dark Elves, Slaanesh chaos, Lizardmen, Pestilens Skaven, Vampires of the pirate coast. 2 Savage Steppes : Tzeentch chaos, Cathay (chinese market, here we come), Ogre Kingdoms, Chaos dwarves, Snakemen of Khuresh (looking at you, Melusai).

What I really want to know is if this is maybe the way that we get Skaven in the future. The Monkey King implements a Skaven Warchief after his takeover so maybe we get to see this early alliance before The Monkey King takes over? Might be copium but maybe that's how we get Skaven. Maybe we would only get access to Clan Eshin since they should be actively helping the Monkey King maybe in the shadows.

Moon Empress is said to originate from Mannslieb, not Morrslieb. Her and Emperor are moon and sun respectively but oppose Chaos in every form.

I don't think I will ever play the tabletop, but if they ever release a Zhao Ming model I am buying it and a Fire Rain Rocket mini just to put on display because I love a demi-god that is down to earth enough to just drink with his soldiers and hang out with Ogres

Regarding fishmen: I don’t think that GW insiders refer to the aquatic race mentioned on page 109 of the 8th edition Dark Elf army book as fishmen anymore, and the way they are reimagined is probably more horrifying than meme worthy. In the army book, it mentioned an entire corsair fleet being dragged to the depths by half kraken half ship craft, and aquatic warriors with needle sharp teeth. Probably something like the deep ones from lovecraft.

Love to read/hear lore tnx - Pretty sure Nekahara is younger than Cathay, athough there is trade between the two. Good to see legacy factions in the narrative - it would have been nonsense to not have them - also Nefereta did turn a Prince of Cathay into a Vampire, her favoured handmaiden is Cathayan and Neferata fled there after fall of Lahmia so lots of links with them as well as Jade Dragons. A full army book for Cathay and Kislev would be great. Really hope we get something with the lost sister - and she should not be lost yet? I wonder if the Dragon Emperor will be Dracolith from AOS

Nehekhara is older but with caveat, because we don't know much of the history of Nehekhara before Settra. who united the city-states and made them into a nation. Before that they have existed and did so since the time of the Old Ones who set the land of Nehekhara as the birthplace of humanity

I don't know any of the background written for Cathay for Total War: Warhammer, so a video that was a general background overview of Cathay would be really good. Both their story, and also things like what units they have in their army in the Total War games. I'm not sure why you're so confident that Cathay will be getting a tabletop release soon, though. Although there is a recent rumour that says that Cathay and Kislev are complete and ready to go - provided that the initial sales for the game are good enough - it's been a long time since GW have said anything officially about them being part of the tabletop game, rather than just a bit of extra story in the background.

In TWW3 there is a loading screen tidbit that the Moon Empress was indeed born on the moon where she learned transformation magic and turned herself into a dragon to come down to the mortal world (means, she isn't a dragon herself). When she met with the Dragon Emperor she taught him transformation magic as well so he could turn human. Also in TWW3 there is an event for Grand Cathay where you get randomly a magic item gifted by "an old woman" and it's stated that it carries the sigil of the Moon Empress and the name of the event is "She walks among us" Apart from that, I'm surprised how many spelling mistakes are in only a couple of lines from an official publisher :x

It's funny their Warcom article mentions the armies wouldn't be coming for a long time back in 2020. It's already been a long time, but Kislev and Cathay probably won't see releases for seven to nine years after that article being published.

Yes, my guess is about 3 years from now before we get Kislev and longer for Cathey. That'll be a bloody long time. But thin hope for the future is better than none right?

Highly doubt it. In immortal empire the map doesnt really contain nippon. Kuresh and Indy will probably be on the faction to be made unless they abandon the game.

You can say that there are too many human factions in 40k, but not Fantasy. The only non-undead human factions you can get are The Empire, Warriors of Chaos, and Bretonnia. Plus, unlike the Imperium bloat of 40k, the human factions of Order are all still very different from each other and can go against each other at times.

I'm not a huge fan of Cathay to be honest. Firstly there's the fact that so many fantasy settings have "China but dragons are real" as their far eastern realm, which is a bit dull. But, given that much of Warhammer is warped real world inspirations it actually works for me. But then there's the fact that it's now ("One of") the oldest civilisations, the longest lasting civilisation, the most populous civilisation, the earliest users of gunpowder besides the sky titans... etc. It just kinda feels like they do everything? Their civilisation is as old as the Elves, they're more populous than the Empire, industrious like the Dwarves, their dragons seem to just be better... They're already not super my thing, but this just turns me off of them even more though. I'm definitely open to changing my mind on them, even if only for specific characters or subfactions, but for now I'm not super interested in them.

Yuan Bo should never have been put in Lustria, they should have released Yin Yin. I feel like they intentionally made his AI not send caravans so he is harder to confederate so more ppl will play as him. I know this is a CA gripe not a GW gripe, but hey. Hope they tie the dragon kids lore in in a cool way

I not really a fan of old world Cathy, mostly because basically we were told it's going to be set in "old world" than we set up bretonia, border princes, Kislev and the age of the 3 emperor's only to neck snap to the other side of the planet and focus on the Chinese... Like I have no issues with Cathy itself, there is some great Cathy related plot lines in the altdoft book for whfrpg4 but I have always hated creative assemblys take on Cathy and feel its inclusion this early while being very stand or ish with Legends factions to leave a bad taste in the mouth. Old world may be what they need to stop being the faction i dislike but only time will tell.

I hope, wish and pray that with the release of the Warhammer the Old World, GW might (just might!) give us a continuation and growth of the Warhammer world INSTEAD of the end times nonsense/stupidity. Please GW, let’s aim for a retcon of sorts and do away with the crazy bs of the end times…. For the health of proper Warhammer, a continuation of the Warhammer world is key to keeping us, their player base, as a loyal customer base/consumer.
