I have my fingers crossed that this mechanic will also be rolled out for Teclis, as his campaign could do with a bit more spice and it would be just as thematic for him. I actually think this makes Gelt a more powerful magical faction than the High Elves. With skills and the Colleges mechanic, all empire casters get a 30% spell cost reduction, as well as 8 items that give additional spell cost reductions. Frankly this puts ordinary Empire wizards at a power level that is greater than most legendary caster lords.

This is all quite promising! I hope Slann will be updated to be more powerful and to draw on the Geomantic Web. But it's hard to imagine how to go beyond 200% intensity (no work required here to get it either) and Cataclysm spells...

Giving a Slann 10% greater Spell Intensity than, say, a Orc Shaman, is basically the same as giving Skarbrand 10% greater Weapon Strength than a Goblin Big Boss. CA should be bold and really push the differences between casters imo.

couldn't agree more there's tons of potential for teclis that way, hopefully lorefully thematic abilities for him like a magical shield from the warhammer 2 release trailer and other thematic additions like him being able to fly through raw magic in the tyrion and teclis novels! Also removing the phoenix mount is kinda needed, he's a mage and should focus on that with powerful defensive spells, not having a hp sponge mount that is unthematic!

With three different ruotes to take (and the return to the Empire one have following greater variability thanks to the RNG of which empire lands will be aviable to takes from enemies as your new homeland) Gelt is posing to maybe be the LL with most actual replayability in the game.

as someone who has already put far more hours into Gelt than they would care to admit, I'm salivating at the thought of this. I'm gonna be using every single one of those cataclysm spells (i never played with the special campaign) and go full Hogwarts on some hoes in service of the empire. First thing I'm doing though is building a 19 Wizards Doomstack with Gelt. I'm curious if Okoii will beat me to it.

Honestly, I feel like Balthasar is a blueprint for a Dogs of War DLC. In fact, his kind of playstyle is always what I wanted for him rather than being made to play Yet Another Empire-Builder (as a choice, of course). With Balthasar, I always wanted to be that sorta faction that operates outside of the Empire, or outside its borders. This here feels much more refreshing.

To that extent however I would much prefer that Gelt not take that Cathyan settlements themselves but rather just restore them to Zhao with an attached "Empire Colony" side chain in the same vein as the Trickster Cults. Incentivizes you to empower your ernstwhile ally/trading partner while still letting you access the special buildings of Cathy. Once you get out of there/stabilize Grand Cathy you start on your triumphant return to the Empire either through the Darklands (break the Chorfs and help the Dwarfs, getting some of that magic in Nagashizzar), north through the mountains of Mourn (Shatter the Suneater and Grimgor/help the Ogres, fending off Chaos and getting whatever magical lore there is up there) or South past the Dragon Isles and the Southlands (help out Teclis, help Volkmar, crush Ku'gath and the Fateweaver). How the "you don't capture settlements but you attach yourself to friendlies" works though when going through the Darklands specifically is difficult if there are no Dwarfs on Hand. Bc Mountains of Mourn you can help out the Gold Tooth in exchange for Trade Protections and Cathay is obvious with Zhao. I think there is a single Dwarf hold nearby (that I think was floated as the new dwarf start?) that you might start off with relations to, so if you decide to go back via the Darklands you can basically make them your custodian as you rip apart the Chorfs, Greenskins and Skaven till you hit the Border Princes. If you go south/seabound via the Dragon Isles you can grant the coastline and lands to the Tor Elasor Faction. I should probably make a full post about this...

do the empire mages get spell intensity? if yes, these doomstacks will be crazy, imagine +200% damage pits of shades that are cataclysm spells, seiring doom, that rips through t5 squads, even the direct damage spells like soul leech just ending characters. i could see aa doom stack that just has each wizzard target one squad, and then kill them before they can even cross the map. and they can get fliqying mounts. these armies will have 300+ power, and probabaly a couple of regen items, so honestly i expect they will have pretty much unlmiited casting, since there are a few items out there with .1 per second, and they will have enought regard to pull from the reserves practally instantly. im sooo hyped for this, i love casting, and this will take my teclis/old malagore games to a whole new level.

I really want a version of his Zhao Ming events for Vlad now. Get pop ups where you can be friendly with Empire, help them out with Beastmen, Chaos and other problems. Then at the end you can officially get recognized as Elector Count of Sylvania and gain Empire mechanics for rest of campaign.

that start position is actually a bit of a nerf to zhao ming and Yuan Bo! Usually you confederate those nomads relatively early, and they serve as a very safe place to expand your empire.

this sort of arcane college mechanic would really work well with teclis. here is to hoping the next dlc has Aislinn, first because having an entire dlc with a theme like this on has (nuln, slayers, tamulkhan's stuff) is far better than the random assortment of missing units. Secondly because it might mean a high elven rework for the base game legendary lords. However I could also see them focusing teclis on being a uniter of the forces of order and have benefits to allied units in your armies.

NGL, im kinda surprised that they didnt have him start in Tilea instead rather than Cathay but my goodness im so proud they have learned from the past and gave Gelt a way to get back to the empire if players dont want to be Cathay (PLEASE ADD THIS TO ELVISH BATMAN).
