FYI: the only AR I've ever had that tried to take itself apart in the act of shooting was my M&P Sport II, when the castle nut came loose. Called Smith and Wesson to warranty it and they refused since it had been modified to be a featureless rifle to comply with CA state law. Decided to check it out myself and found that the barrel nut was tightened over 120 foot pounds from factory thus ruining the barrel and upper receiver. Took the rifle to my department’s armorer, who is certified by Smith and Wesson. He confirmed it was a head space issue and that the entire upper was ruined. Thanks Smith and Wesson. Have to keep in mind PSA is direct to consumer (through FFL). They aren’t sold new in gun stores. Thus keeping prices low. S&W sells guns to gun stores who then have to sell them and make a profit (aka MSRP, the price they recommend stores to charge to do so.) PSA makes and sells their products and have better margins. Mid-length gas doesn’t help it handle a variety of bullet weights. The selected twist of the rifling does that. Instead mid-length gas reduces recoil, reduces (psi) pounding of internal parts and increases dwell time thus making it more reliable.

Ton of people here are being pretty negative on this release, but they don't realize that the vast majority of first time AR buyers are just people who walk into a local gunshop and pick something off the wall. It's only after they talk to their gun nerd (like I and many others here lol) friend that they get introduced to the vast world of gun parts online. I love PSA like everyone else in this comment section, but the reality is that this updated M&P model will likely be the gateway purchase for many people. Anyone remember how many M&Ps and Radical rifles got sold during 2020? At $799 I agree you can get a rifle more particular to your needs, but gunshops don't charge a transfer fee for things on the wall. If I transfer an identical rifle from PSA to the gunshop, I'm getting hit with an FFL transfer fee and probably shipping too; but I know PSA often has free shipping on rifles with these specs. You'd definitely save at least $100 on a PSA rifle with a midlength upper and 4150V barrel and nearly identical furniture. Let's be honest though, these new M&P models are going to be at $599 in a year or two lol. I picked up an M&P Sport II in 2021 for $479.99 from my LGS.

You folks make me laugh! You naysayers must all have Ford trucks, with the same wheels, same oversized tires, and all weather floor mats.? I just ordered one of these, $749! What will I add to customize this, my forth AR platform rifle? Nothing! It has a stock, has a grip, has the desirable for me, 1/8 5R rifling, mid length, and 15” free floated. Why, is there something newer and better than the mid- length? A 3/4 length? A rifle length that will work in a 16 inch barrel? This $749 rifle will do everything your custom ones will do. No? Like what? I like to shoot rifle length stocks, not stubby carbine ones. Don’t need anything custom, cool, bitchen, or worse, gotta have accessories because that’s what everyone tells me I have to have. Cudos to Smith for finally bringing it to us. All I need. Thanks. A front sling mount will be the only thing handing from my 15”. Couldn’t care less about the M-Loc arrangement. It will be my SHTF rifle. I will add flip up front and rear from the box of sights in the garage from my Ruger MSR, Springfield Victor, or my 2010 Smith Sport I carbine that shoots like a dream and feeds everything. All I care about is reliability with this new one. If I goes bang every time after about 200 or so rounds of green tips…..I will clean it and put it away……and hope I will never have to shoot it. It’s a legal backup. And, because it’s a Smith and Wesson, a name that even anti-gunners know, WHEN we can no longer be able to buy these in the near future, it will undoubtedly be in demand to lawfully assist others in need who didn’t see it coming. I pray it never comes to that. Good bless America and our government.

First time I'm seeing "empowering americans" tied to your company, that's awesome. But why continue with the M&P branding (which if iirc means Military & police). Drop that naming convention and make it for americans if that is your new mission statement. Again if you're for americans why continue with the "sport" labeling. There is a alot of contridictions here. Lastly, rails aren't for accessoriesing your rifle, it's for adding capabilities. Sure some people want to add call of duty charms, but it's for lights, LAMs, and grips, to make it a more effective rifle, not to make it "your own". Love the 2.0 line, hands down the best ootb option right now, just need to loose the M&P branding if your really for americans and not for just military and police.

Lights, lasers, and grips are literally accessories. Getting on a major company who has made the baseline for good reliable budget guns over naming is silly man. If you dont want it, don’t get it. If you already have a rifle this probably isnt gonna be a world of difference from a basic aero. But the Sport line has been great at being affordable and available in local gun stores everywhere. Its a great thing they’ve decided to modernize it.
@dmoose706610 ай бұрын
@@CatholicKit your right, they are accessories, but it's not about making it "your own" it's about extending capabilities. Which is a very important distiction. Naming things is very very important, there is a reason why companies literally spend millions when it comes to branding. It's what drives sales, it's what sets the tone what your company is about. Right now S&W has contridicitons and I'm pointing this out as a consumer who wants to see improvement because they make incredible products.

But thank you for making this a mid length gas system version and adding the mlok rail. Also...I think I speak for a lot of people when is say that i'm extremely disheartened to learn that Smith and Wesson does not offer armorer's courses to civilians. The average citizen is the primary customer of smith and wesson products, it would be extremely helpful in furthering the education of the community and industry if you would reconsider this position. I'm a firm believer that if people are to be riflemen, they should understand how their weapon works which aids in their ability to maintain and repair it if necessary.
