Got this in Dec 2023. Was a little hesitant because didn’t care for the grip or trigger on the original shield. Well, this is my new edc and has relegated my p365 to safe queen. Got about 500 rounds through it. A dream to shoot and ultra reliable. Not a single malfunction. Love it.

Yup When the shield plus first came out I was like how is it not optics ready when you have everyone from sig, Glock, fn, Taurus’s making those size guns optics ready. I think that was putting me off because I wanted something optics ready and I like the shield plus so much. I’m happy my patience payed off 😂😂

@Cool N Chill No their are young 28 year olds like myself that despise red dots on pistols. I prefer it without the optics cut for the strongest slide. Night sights for a defensive pistol keep it simple. The chances of you shooting out to distance are slim to none you probably won't even use the sights when defending yourself because of how fast it unfolds. We aren't cops trying to assess a situation we are always on defense quickly drawing and shooting.

They are spending 125 million on moving from Massachusetts to Tennessee gun manufacturers have incredibly large expenses. I hear ya but at the end of the day your money is going to a good manufacturer that will in turn put it in their employees pockets or go toward their severance pay. I hear ya about having it ready to go on release but in reality most people knew they were going to do this and held off on buying a Shield Plus until now. I mean dude the gun just came out in March it's not like they waited years to release an optics ready. What you are saying is people have a problem with being patient for what they want. That sucks cause ya gotta be smarter with your money.

I'm hoping soon. I have no proof of this, but I believe the M&P 2.0 Core series is Smith & Wesson's practice into making optic ready cuts to prepare for their M&P 3.0 (like how Glock made the MOS cuts for the Gen 4 Glock 19 before releasing Gen 5 shortly afterwards). Hopefully we get the M&P 3.0 soon with the upgraded trigger and improved grip texture. Wouldn't mind if it came with optic cuts by default as well like the Walther PDP.

I wouldn't bank on a .45 shield plus. How can they put more rounds in the grip it's not a 9mm. I would love if they could but it would be a stupid fat grip which would be redundant with their .45 subcompact models.

Great guns! Last year, I gave my daughter the M&P Shield 9. I have been carrying my 6906 since 1999 and never had a failure. Love that gun but wish I could find some updated sights for it. My eyes aren't what they were 20+ years ago.

I hear ya, but I like mine without it makes the slide stronger. I'm a 28 year old that doesn't want to fish around for a red dot with a carry gun. Just night sights keeping it simple for a point and shoot gun. I also live in Chicago where the joggers only like to get up close to you within 5 yards.

I recently purchased the S&W M&P 9 Shield 3.1" barrel with optic ready. Can you recommend a good red dot?

Only a few will fit without an adapter plate. S&W uses their own proprietary cut for their optics ready pistols. One that will fit, out of the box, is the Crimson Trace CTS-1550. Personally, I don't like red dots that do not have a shake awake feature and auto shutoff. I ended up getting the Vector Optics Frenzy-S. It has shake awake/auto off. Also can co-witness with it and it did not require an adapter plate. The only downside is the batter is bottom load, so you have to remove the optic to replace the battery. Not a huge deal, but thought I would mention it. Good luck!

I just got a shield plus and right out of the box I had magazine problems causing my slide to jam when racking a round in the chamber. Had to take it back to my local gunsmith to get it repaired, hoping they don’t have to send it in to S&W 🙏

Just ordered one a couple days ago! I can’t decide between the RMRcc or the RMSc… Do I need any other hardware aside from the RMRcc or RMSc to mount it to the shield? I’ve never installed a non-picitinny/dovetail sight before. Also, will I be able to co-witness with either of these two sights without any modifications?

Rmrcc has a unique footprint, you'll need an adapter plate to make it work. It won't cowitness. The rmsc should go right on and co witness.

It is. If you train you will notice how the average individual draw and fire time improves significantly when being timed. If the sight fails you can still see the irons.

@S&W-- I am a current *Walther PPS* carrier who has become disatisfied with how that company doesn't seem to listen to their customers the way that you seem to. I own several S&W products, and would very much like to switch to a *Shield Plus* as my carry gun. One thing has kept me from doing so, however-- *the seriously rough grip texture.* My wife has an EZ, so I know with zero doubt that it just won't work for me. In the future, do you think you might be able to include a "less aggressive" backstrap, or maybe just develop a Shield-model with ergos in the ballpark of your SW9VE? I have held that pistol and really loved the ergos, but I need a "Shield-size" carry gun, not a service size pistol... for right now. Btw, I'm not alone. All you have to do is perform a youtube search on "how to smooth out the grip texture on a Smith and Wesson." Thank you

Most likely not. S&W bought Crimson Trace so it’s performance center optic cut are designed to mount CT optics. Just send your slide for milling. I took this route and installed a 407k green.

I bought one of these about a month ago but noticed right out of the box that the night sights were about 50% as bright as my three other pistols with tritium sights. I didn't have any way to test them for brightness before accepting the gun from my ffl. I called Smith and sent the pistol in for sight replacement. Three weeks later, I got it back with supposedly new tritium sights, but they look exactly the same and are half as bright as my other night sights. I own many quality Smith products but am highly disappointed with this purchase. I own a gen 1 and 2.0 Shields, and bought this Plus specifically for the increased capacity and night sights, but it appears I'm going to have to spend another $100+ to have a decent set of third party sights instead of the low quality ones that came on this pistol. Something must have changed at Smith. This isn't the quality that I've come to expect from them.

Loved my Gen1 Shield 9. Never a single FTF or FTE. More accurate than many larger handguns, very crisp pull and predictable recoil. Just picked up the Plus RDR. Trigger is great, grip is better, but I can't get the last rounds in the mags. Only can get 8 in the 10, and 11 in the 13...

The 407c is too wide for the shield. You will have an overhang on the sides. I sent my shield plus PC for custom slide milling to C&H precision and installed the Holosun 407k green dot. It sits perfectly.
