I added flowmaster super 10s with a turndown on my 2001 Chevy Silverado 5.3 4x4 truck but it didn’t get any louder,I was really upset, the mechanic said to get 3inch exaust pipes and he said that will make it a lot louder

Sounds good, I swapped from Flowmaster to Magnaflows on my truck, I think they sound better and produce more power. I am curious what my sound difference might be with an H pipe though now!

Magnaflows do flow better than Flowmasters. Flowmaster is a "chambered" to a magnaflow "strait thru" muffler.

BigBlackBigBlockC10 yep! I like the Flowmaster sound, but I’ll always choose power first. I also added electric cutouts after my headers, but I just moved and they won’t pass my truck because of it lol. I’ll find a work around for that though.

Typically any type of crossover pipe will quite the exhaust. Not necessarily a bad thing but it generally makes it a bit more tame

This is straight up what I’m about to do on my 73 k10. Have 2.5 true duals with mufflers that are falling apart. Got ceramic headers and 3” FlowFX straight throughs and want to do an h pipe. Little bit crowded with the transfer case. Love how yours sounds. Can I ask how much you paid to have yours done? Trying to figure out if I want to bite the billet and have it done or invest in a welder and figure it out. Clean truck man!!

Yea no problem. So ive done both. Ive built a non mandrel kit and did custom garage welded up on my 65 C10. If you opt to do non mandrel bent or no crossover pipe or non Magnaflow mufflers the cost will come down. I paid around $1200 for parts and labor but i suspect it could have been alot less if i took a cheaper route with the design and materials

On more word of advice. I decided to “learn” how to weld doing an exhaust... this is arguably the hardest way since the material is super thin. If i could do it over again i may have paid a shop and learned to weld a different way

@@truckandroll989 Your truck sounds great. Did your shop have the 3" mandrel bends in stock or did you order online and had them installed? I'm having the hardest time trying got find 3" mandrel bend exhaust for my 84 c10.

Does a H pipe give you more of a rumble then a x pipe? I don't have headers on my tahoe but have true duals with 2 super 10s plus x pipe and disappointed. Not as loud of a rumble. Should I go with a H pipe instead. Awesome truck and sounds badass.

If its just sound you are after usually true duals will be the rowdiest. In my opinion the H pipe has more of a muscle car sound whereas the x pipe is a bit smoother but potentially louder at high rpm. Thanks!!

@@truckandroll989 That's exactly how my tahoe sounds it's more smooth sounding and drives me nuts lol. I always had old pontiacs when I was younger and like that muscle car rumble so I think I will get the Xpipe off and have my garage put on a H pipe. Thanks so much👍

Have to second that. My exhaust guy said the same if you want the deeper muscle car sound h pipe is the way to go but for higher rpm scream x pipe is the road to go down. I went with the h pipe on my 96 Tahoe with sweet thunder chambered mufflers and it has the rumble I wanted. When I originally did my first exhaust on the Tahoe I had true duals with magnaflow and it was good. Later on installed an x pipe and it mellowed out the sound to the point where I hated it. After about 5 years I redid the exhaust with the h pipe and never looked back.

Thanks! To be honest when i went to the muffler shop i just asked for 3” straight through Magnaflows. Theres no chambers. Its a 3” inlet and 3” outlet

Those are long tube headers that you are hearing. x pipes are typically much more difficult to fit beneath a car. I really did not have that option. There was only one spot where a crossover pipe could go.

Kb Keeling ive got some good news and some bad news. The dyno day did not go as planned. Motor is OK. Picked up some power (not quite all that i was hoping but still solid) but broke some things in the process. I had to get it towed off the dyno after the 3rd pull. Ill try and get the video wrapped up in the next few days

I think thats dependent on power level. I think im at the cusp where 3” becomes beneficial (>500hp).

Gotta disagree with you on the flow. You really want the least amount of back pressure. Ideal (for performance) would be headers + a collector extender. A 3” system with a crossover is going to outperform 2.5” true duals just about any day (unless you have a really low horsepower setup).

Its all good. Its pretty tame at idle and honestly id agree the chambered mufflers such as a Flowmaster do sound better. Under hard acceleration since the Magnaflows are straight through they scream. The biggest downside of a chambered muffler is you trade hp for better sound.

Joey Diluccia being honest man, dyno tests show a lot of times that magna flow just gives more power and better air through them. I do like flowmaster sometimes when power isn’t a factor but performance wise there are better exhaust systems than flowmaster
