I think a lot of bands nowadays are releasing so many songs before the actual album and then when the actual album comes, you get like 3 to 4 songs and it doesn’t feel like an actual album because you heard most of it already with the singles

MTS has been my favorite band of all time since I first heard Let Me In. I can't name a single song I don't like from them. Every single time they've released a new album, I listened to it on repeat for 8-11 hours (depending on how long my work day was) and loved every second of it every time. I listened to this album once and felt like that was enough. I'm still adding the entire thing to my Playlist but it seriously feels like it lacks the heart and soul that their previous albums had. Maybe it's because they've been around so long or maybe it's because of the new member wanting to go in a slightly different direction. Whatever it is, it just felt kind of...... empty? Releasing 60% of the album as singles over the last 2 years didn't really help either.

@sempiternalfire19 күн бұрын
I'm on the same lines as you and a lot of others. Some good songs, good ideas, but overall some parts felt disjointed and like they didn't work together. A lot of reused riffs, attempts at merging older sounds with this new digitised synthy feel which just ends up overwhelming everything, less synths, better variety in guitar work and more orchestral themes like Epitaph and would definitely like this album a lot more. A major point to note as well is the lack of piano, which over the years became one of their main motifs and separated them from the rest of the bands in the scene, just near on completely removed that for synths. In terms of quality, it's a good sounding album, but in terms of songwriting and impact? Well below standard and doesn't even come close to AOTY. Heard a lot of Worlds Apart in this as well but like a worse version of it and couldn't connect with it.
@AUFT_.18 күн бұрын
Songs 7 to 11 are where album actually engages me. First six songs are just.....the same. A lot of people are talking about how most singles of the album were released already and that affecting the album. But the reason this is valid is because they stacked 4 singles back to back (Oscillator to Epitaph). I don't know why they did not space them out. Like Ghost of Me fits well because the song before and after are completely new to us.

@Joose19 күн бұрын
Disagree on the drums. I think that ol' Bogdan has just listened to so much modern metalcore, that he's finding himself uninterested in anything that isn't "moving the genre forward", so to speak. This album does not do that. It does, however, tick all of the boxes on what makes a metalcore album great, re-listenable and likely to stand the test of time... whereas a lot of these metalcore albums that people say "potential AOTY!" about, are worthy of maybe 2-3 listens, then I forget they exist.
@jasons.944519 күн бұрын

@Joose19 күн бұрын
The kick tone on How To Survive A Funeral bothered me so much that I actually never made it through the entire album. 😅 "Uninspired" seems harsh. There are a lot of intricacies, little things going on that make the drums on this album interesting to me. Yes, the drums, guitar and bass are all very much in-sync with each other, which I do believe can sometimes keep the drumming from standing out, but I think it fits the vibe of the album very well.
@dietcokechamp19 күн бұрын
right with you... i've completely grown out of this super polished modern metalcore sound. when atmosphere and electronics become a priority in the mix i just can't get into it. there are moments and certain riffs that definitely work (ghost of me is a song i quite like), but it's all just too overproduced. also i think they focused too much on making sure there was cleaning singing on every song. alex is a great vocalist, and sean's moment on venusian blues was a nice; i'm mostly complaining about the writing and song structure.

I vibe with the album for sure, I dig the MTS sound they're going for. It's not my favourite release this year but I really enjoy songs like Mana God, Ghost of Me and Tether. Riffs are super tight and crushing, and when it hits it really hits. I do think sometimes the slowed-down chorus they seem to put into every song just doesn't work with the rest of it, and that's my biggest gripe with it; would love to see the band experiment with song structure more. That criticism is quite common for me though, it's my main problem with a lot of metal albums these days.

@ekjyotsingh720619 күн бұрын
I love this band so much but yeah; I share your sentiments here man. I went critical on them as well, and summarized my thoughts - 1. Both Sean and Alex take their shot at flexing their top tier vocal ranges. 2. The consistency of the electronic infused sound still stands out, but at the same time keeps overshadowing the overall sound, making it sound very similar, and at times, irritating throughout the album. 3. The drumming is super weak on this album IMO, and at times feels like it’s just computerized drums. 4. Call me crazy, but very Amy Lee-like vocals from Alex on Tether and on outro part of Small-Town Syndrome. Obviously not the same grit and inflexion as Amy, but really reminded me of one particular song by Evanescence (i.e., Call Me When You Are Sober) 5. The album's overall flow and pacing isn’t bad, but the tempo is very samey throughout the album without any breaks or slower moments allowing some breathing room for vocals or instrumentals to stand out. 6. No Hard Feelings was a much needed and a very well written switch up, but again, the tempo felt off. It could have easily been the equivalent of The Attendant of this album. 7. I'm not a huge fan of the 100% third person lyrical style of writing. No variety in that department. 8. Ghost of Me and Doomswitch were start of a new era, but they couldn’t perfect the sound again except for Small Town Syndrome, which as you said, we needed more of. The singles this year were weak. 9. So yeah, the riffs man. They're solid but very samey throughout most of the album. 10. Speaking of which, the overall theme of the album didn't really stand out, nor did it resonate with me like it did last time around on HTSAF. 11. Not really any memorable moments on the album either. Not a fan of more than 3 singles released before the album drop, so some experience ruined there as well. 12. Tether - a very solid non-single but I honestly hated that outro. Still a solid 3 track run to end the otherwise underwhelming album. Overall, still a decent album and way better than a lot of stuff I have heard this year. Just felt a little underwhelmed for not really having any memorable moments. Small Town Syndrome is a banger though and easily my favorite non-single. That chorus is everything with a perfect mix of Alex's and Sean's beautiful vocals. I would really love to see more of that in the future. For now, besides STS, Ghost of Me is still the best song off of the album. Fingers crossed that they finally do a North America headliner and my third time seeing them live is for a longer setlist ha-ha, given they stop by Toronto in there.

I was super deep into Make Them Suffer for quite awhile. And there are parts in songs from this album that I really like. I'm glad on Tether Alex got some more solo time and I've been eager to hear her have more cleans and uncleans. But, this is like a 7/10 overall for me and I wish they'd stop releasing so much as singles and have some variation in the electronics and lead

Idk, it’s probably the mix, but all the songs sound so .. layered? Almost every song feels like I am listening to 2 songs at the same time. Really don’t like this album. Edit: when I compare this with the Counterparts EP, than I can’t honestly give more than a 4/10 for this lol

This album connected with me much more than How to Survive a Funeral. I really dig it. I will say, although I love Alex's addition with the screams, I definitely prefer Bookah's cleans.

I think it’s a good album from beginning to end, but there definitely is a lot of redundancy to some extend and I think even the order of songs makes it hard to enjoy the individual songs as much as possible when you have just heard a similar riff or vocal pattern for example

I think this was a great album. Epitaph was the first song I ever heard from them and I enjoyed what came after for the most part

Too many singles, but the album is pretty great. No Hard Feelings is the best song they’ve put out since 2020 imo.

As a big MTS fan.. I did not find myself happy with any of the new songs that were not singles.. it gave me a flooded feeling

Unpopular opinion:: they should of never fired bookah. Having just re listened to how to survive a funeral it feels like a way more cohesive album in comparison

I'm loving this album, but if I'd banged the hell out of all the singles, I probably wouldn't as much. In this new age, I try to avoid listening to all the singles drops of bands I usually enjoy. It definitely helps when listening to a new album, otherwise it's just - yeah I heard this one already. I've only listened to 3 of these singles 1-2 times before, which kept it very fresh.

The main problem here is that you liked How to Survive a Funeral too much, so instantly in your head you will expect this album to be better. But it's impossible at your first listening because you've had 4 years to enjoy and connect with HTSAF, while you've had only a few minutes to decide if you like this new album or not. I've had this same problem with The Path from Fit For A King, an album that I loved so much. So when they released The Hell We Create I didn't like it as much. But now, two years later, I'm rediscovering this album and I love it. To me it's a huge banger and I can't stop listening to it. Same with that album here, I compared it too much with their previous album, which is perhaps not the best thing to do if you want to appreciate something as it is. I liked it anyway, for now my favourite new songs are Tether and No Hard Feelings and my favourite singles are Doomswitch and Ghost of Me.

You actually were right about the mix being different, though only on Doomswitch and Ghost of Me.

Other abums had songs that pulled at me emotionally (ex. erase me, the attendant, how to survive a funeral, save yourself). There's too much production. Its hard to listen to songs because there's so much happening at once. Its hard to appreciate the guitars, or Alex's singing, or anything tbh. Lots of straight up heaviness, no breaks. Idk, not a bad album but not what I was hoping for.

They should’ve only released 2-3 singles if their album is 10 (11) songs long. It should’ve been Doomswitch, Ghost of Me then maybe Epitaph. Just feels like we’ve heard the whole album already before it was released

My first listen left me a bit disappointed. Especially the block of 4 singles in a row was annoying to get through because I wanted to hear the NEW stuff. I think the second half of the album is AWESOME. I really like Venisuian Blues, No Hard Feelings and Tether and I also think Ghost of Me was the strongest single. On second and third listen I enjoyed the album more because it didn't feel like I have to get through a lot of songs that I already know to get to the new stuff. I like the Album, it has some good stuff in it but its not as exciting as I had hoped it would be.

I felt the same way (except I liked all the singles) but the album as a while was not as good as the one that came before. All in all tho I like that they aren't just architects clones or Linkin Park with breakdowns
@c0r3k1d319 күн бұрын
I feel like this album lacked in the "theming" department. Old Souls had a very clear theme, Worlds Apart had a very clear theme, How To Survive a Funeral had a very clear theme, and this just kinda didn't really have a theme other than "Riffcore" to me, which isn't really a theme. The other albums were so good because it was quality metalcore ontop of a great underlying production and audio/visual theme, but this album really didn't have that for me. It was "okay" overall, but especially compared to their discography and the 4 year wait, this album might be a little forgettable in a year or two, at least to me.

I really like the album, and it lands pretty much right in my style, but it isn't my favorite album by any means for the same reasons as some of your critiques, mainly because of how many singles there were, and the fact that those last two songs were the only standout non-singles.

I’ve listened to the singles and I can’t really say anything, like, these songs are the same, every time we have that “heavy” sound in verses and than, there goes that usual chorus. They first time I’ve heard them was in 2020 when they released their “erase me” single, back then it felt like something new, something interesting and exciting, but now, I’ve heard it so many times that I just don’t care, this kind of sound should appeal to your emotions, but there are no emotions for me

I think it was a great album but the thing is that doomswitch/ghost of me is so well done and way over a certain level of quality that it makes us appreciate the other ones less.

All of the comments about too many singles are correct felt like I'd heard half the album already :/ The production on this album is definetely weird, I don't think it serves the album I think with the right production this album would be their best aside maybe neverbloom. This album feels like them pulling from all the sounds from the last few albums which makes it a really good self titled imo As it stands third or fourth overall, controversially I think this is better than how to survive a funeral Didn't think it'd happen but Allt might have replaced MTS as my go to band Edit: loved the lil edits through-out the reaction :)

I like it and Will continue to listen to the album however as far as MTS standards it’s not as good as you’d expect. A bit unrealistic from my side to expect an AOTY everytime maybe from these guys. Ghost of me stays as my favourite tho :D

The whole album just felt so monotone. It felt like there was very little change besides some slight tweaks in the riffs.
