We knew we would need an inshore fishing boat when we made the move to Florida and finally got one! Welcome to the channel our new Mako Pro 17 Skiff! In this video I go over why I chose the Mako as well as some of the upgrades we will be doing to it so stay tuned for those videos as well!

You will want some kind of deck traction/padding for the back drop in and bait decks. Once you get your sight fishing dialed, you’ll thank me!! Some kind of shade like a micro tee or strapless bimini 🤙

Awesome boat I love mine get rid of that front roller ASAP and put Bunk Boards on the bow.. that Roller will get stuck on the Bow while launching also will eventually crack the bow!..

Thanks! I’m glad you like the channel! I love the boat! My wife and I are taking it out on the banana river Sunday! The back one only has messed up the first time I had it out.. since then it’s been fine! The front one works 50/50 .. 2 ways to fix it. Try a bleeder tube or go to a self priming style pump.. I’m a tech there at Palm Bay BPS .

@@ReelLifeFisherman ok cool! I’m really stuck between a Carolina Skiff, the Mako or something like a skimmer skiff. I want something small that I can take out solo anytime I want, but also something that can handle some chop when things get hairy. How does that boat handle in rougher conditions?

I was actually really impressed with how well the boat cuts through chop.. when it’s really choppy especially with the 2 trolling motor batteries up front it’s best to have a passenger sit behind you on the back deck or next to you instead of in the front livewell seat.

Thanks I appreciate it! So the main reason for the Garmin on this one is I have a 93 on my offshore boat and wanted to just keep everything the same. But also the operating system I like and the sonar is really nice too.. and with this set up I love the way the graph just pops out of the mount to take it inside. My other one is flush mounted though. But if I didn’t go Garmin i would have bought a simrad . Thanks for watching hope to get the install videos out soon!

Awesome boat man! I'm looking to purchase one myself in the next couple days used. I've looked high and low for the Mako console curtain and the curtain with snaps under the bow fishing deck. Are those available after market or only available if you purchase new? Can't wait to see the next videos - your list of upgrades is exactly what I plan on doing myself too!

Awesome! They are a very good fishing platform inshore! So you may be able to order those at a tracker boat center parts department. Or you could go to a canvas shop and have them make you one. But I would check at the dealership. I work at one and I can see if they are still available. The upgrades are all done! Just one more to go.. but I don’t even go over that one in the video.. I’m setting it up for flounder gigging.. it’s coming out nice! Just have to work on the videos.. thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it!

Neighbor just bought one...but with the upgraded 75hp Merc. 60hp seems a bit underpowered once you put gear and 2-3 people in it.

It’s really up to you what you want.. I wanted less weight in the back, less cost and more fuel economy and a more reliable engine.. and I get 30mph which for me on the Indian river plenty of speed. Thanks for watching and commenting

It does with the motor trimmed down and the boat slightly at a angle. If I removed the cabinets in the back or installed a swing tongue it would go straight in .

I don’t take the mako out offshore. I bought it for the inshore fishing.. I have a seafox for offshore fishing. I did upgrade the fuel tank to a 9 gallon on it and with the 60hp it has plenty of range for all the inshore stuff I do.. no way to know exactly the mileage I get .. because I run all over the place in it and don’t make too long of a run.
