By the way hypercars look the way they do because they're hyper specialized for speed. The reason hypercars have the stretched wedge shape is because it is very aerodynamic and maximizes down force, they sacrifice creature comforts and practicality. They often require lots of air intakes to cool their massive engine and brakes, the styling is often extreme because owners want to show off their ludicrously expensive car. Personally they fit my taste and I find the look matches the radical nature of the vehicles. OTOH I could see where someone would be coming from if they called it juvenile. There are hypercars with restrained styling like some models made by Porsche.

@coolguy_29972 жыл бұрын
I believe the EV variant will fail badly. It’s just not competitive for the asking price. Previously customers used to pay big money to get first of all a great engine and a sound from a supercar or luxury/GT brand and that experience. So 80% of the price in the minds of customers was justified by a particular engine. Without it, if new Chinese or Korean brands (or from elsewhere) come out with their new GT/performance EV coupes with good interior/exterior design, not many people will buy a EV Maserati because those brands will give better battery and infotainment tech for sure and will be at least half the price. For the money asked this Maserati should’ve had Plaid levels of performance if not more and 120kwh battery at least.

For me, it looks like a mild facelift of the previous incarnation. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, but I think they got it so right last time, they were afraid of a clean-sheet design for fear of mucking it up, and I think that is ultimately a failure of the design team. Other than that, the Folgore seems to offer something unique at this point in time; an EV that will hopefully rival the Bentley Continental GT. If the interior quality is there or thereabouts, and they can deliver orders quickly, I expect to start seeing a lot of these on London streets. However, I'm not so excited about the petrol versions. I think this new GranTurismo will likely pull the prices of the old ones up rather than push them further down, even though they are horrendously thirsty. The design is just too similar to the old one to make people think they've got to have the new one. As a Maserati aficionado I have been somewhat shocked that Maserati has taken so long to replace the previous long-running car, and then all they have come up with is what looks like a facelift. I'm interested to see how the market reacts. I have been similarly disappointed to see the emergence of models that quite frankly shouldn't be wearing the Trident. I think the MC20 is great, but it seems Covid means it will be a commercial failure. Maybe the MC20 Folgore will be a commercial success? It seems strange that the future of a brand with a history of special engines may be saved by being a performance EV leader.

It s just because we got used to cars being ICE. After 20 years of exclusively electric cars i can assure you nobody would care about exhaust notes.

It's strikingly beautiful...a real work of art (a guy who owns a '19 Ferrari 488 Spider).

Honestly I like it...of course the internal combustion engines from Maserati are something else but we gotta understand that this gonna be the future or we'll have to wait for biological fuels.

I applaud Maserati for keeping the same general design of the GT (although it was actually designed from the ground up). Looks like they have their shit together.

Beautiful car, gorgeous footage as well, but during the drive section that missing engine noise is super prominent. That thrill is gone... its gonna be interesting to see how the industry adapts.

I’d take the Petrol and laugh at the electric ⚡️ version 😂

People are so “engine noise or bust” but honestly, I like this electric variant more than any other electric car. Call me biased as I’ve owned an Alfa and loved Italian flare, but I’ve driven many many Maseratis (loaners while car’s in shop) and it’s character is much more than its engine noise: it’s the interior, it’s ability to sling it around corner, stay planted. Electric motors can do that, with a much lower COG. Definitely the buy, even without 1200hp. Most people don’t even need 700hp

TBH, the only reason i have 4.7 GT is the freaking sound. Really unique note. It's slow, its not agile, not super sporty. But whenever i push the pedal in the city, people are smiling. Engine is soul, nothing will ever beat that. Even maserati wants to add fake sound to EV - move that explains everything.

The aerodynamic difference is an interesting one (to me). Why would they choose not to make the petrol version more aerodynamically efficient as well - what are the down-sides which outweigh the benefits in the case of IC but not EV?

What I’m happy about is that you can buy a luxury electric vehicle that looks like a grand tourer and drives like one . Sure I’d probably go for the v6 but given that ice cars may not be used in performance applications this is not something I’d not hate to be in . So thank you Maserati

I absolutely love the electric switch for Maserati, and this car in particular makes a lot if sense. Maserati has always been a weird horse, with all the weird doublethink required to being an elite brand while also trying really hard (too hard) not to compete with Ferrari. The found their footing with the Gran Turismo and putting out some competition for Porsche on the SUV and super Sedan segment, but here is where they can really stand out. This is a great electric car and an amazing GT, and Maserati is the first to make it. They haven't been first at anything in half a century, so I can only be happy about that move. Now they can finally stand out and get some recognition beyond just selling a few car to rich idiots.

The only good thing about Maserati of old was the sound they make. Now they’ve taken that away

I appreciate the choice. Personally hate electric cars, but is arguably the best attempt attempt to an electric GT car. It ticks the boxes, excluding the range. Interesting how they over engineered the motors and put in smaller batteries, would be great to have a modular system to replace/ upgrade for more range in the future. Honestly could care less about the efficiency and drag, it looks like a proper GT and doesn’t scream electric. Thank you Maserati for trying something different but applying what you do best! -The World
