It is not just the price of the software and huge data behind FSD, it is also the computers and cameras that go with it that every Tesla has and yet is not used for FSD in most cases. $3K is way less than what it costs Tesla, even its current price may not be enough to cover the cost made.

I’ve received 3 months of free FSD out of 4 months of ownership on my Model 3 LR DM. I’ve used it a total of 5 times, mainly to show people. I just don’t use it, so I’m not paying for it. Plus, even if I planned to use it, it is $100/ month so it would take 80 months of ownership for me to get “my money’s worth.”

Problem with the Cyber truck is they alienated people like me that just wanted to range for the price they offered. Once they took away that 500 plus mile range for $70,000 most of us cancelled. Now they're disproportionately reliant on people who just wanted the Cyber truck so that they can stand out. However, they will begin to abandon the Cyber truck once it becomes less rare.

It drives very well and has the room for a 6ft 3 guy like me. I looked for specific things and this is the only Tesla model that offers it. I hated how plastic like the doors were on my 2024 Model S. With the cybertruck it feels like a tank and other than pressure washing the exterior you don’t have to worry about paint. I trade in my model Y and I got exactly what I owed and got my new model x. In terms of the federal credit, when I purchased my 2021 model Y, that didn’t exist, and now with this one, tesla gave me around 12k in discount because the end of the year and they wanted to get rid of inventory so that worked for me. No need of the tax incentive. At least that was my case.

@Bellatheenglishbulldog21
@Bellatheenglishbulldog21 Күн бұрын
@ no, I did not because the MSRP of the car was over the threshold. I got grey exterior with yoke, 6 seats and white interior. The thing is that the car was in inventory and I guess they couldn’t sell it for a while. When I placed my order, the basic to qualify for the 7500, I waited for two weeks for my vin. Got it the day after Christmas and a day later, it disappeared. Called and they couldn’t give me an answer taking into account that my loan and everything was in order. I texted them through the app and nothing. My husband complained and they called back with the offer. Even though I had to give down payment in this one, I’m paying the same of what I would have paid for the plain model x and this one has the extras that I mentioned before. Overall, super happy with my purchase. I know a lot of people love the Y and I did for almost 4 years. Please note that I work from home and had very low mileage on the Y as to probably why they gave me that amount. A friend of mine has a old model 3, 2022 I think, with 68k miles and he’s a little over 7k negative.

As Musk has repeatedly said, if you eliminate the EV tax credits then all tax subsidies for oil and gas should be eliminated too. Last year the US subsidized oil and gas by almost $1 trillion and the governments of the world spent a total of $7 trillion on oil and gas subsidies. This would allow an actual ”free market system” to determine what type of vehicles were purchased. My guess is that if this were done the price of gas would not be $3.00-$4.00/gallon? Maybe two or three times that price? Maybe more?

Wrong. Plenty of us are quite willing to pay the original price. I cancelled my reservation because $100k(Foundation dual motor) > $50k and $80k(dual motor) > $50k. $50k is a great price for any new truck. $100k is not. Neither is $80k. @@brendykes1202 Correct, and hence why, all of those "millions" of reservations are worthless. You can go and easily pick up a Cybertruck tomorrow, without a reservation, whereas even just earlier this year, we were still told, "oh, you need to pay over sticker because it's going to be 2 years or more before you can even configure one." As far as prices... come on, when Model X starts at $70k... and a Model Y at $45.... who would seriously think the Cybertruck with the newest tech and a BIGGER battery pack would come in at $50k? lol. Especially when you look at the competition and those prices. My Lightning was $50k after all those massive discounts... but not a CT with a 30% bigger battery. The tax credit was not truly passed on to consumers - it was a de facto revenue source for car companies. Evidence being so many manufacturers offering $5000 - $7,500 price “adjustments” or incentives on cars not qualifying for the tax credit. The EV space will become extremely competitive in the next two years and sans the tax credit the MSRP will have to come down, and dealer incentives will have to be increased.

@chrisg5101 Күн бұрын
@@michaeldelrosario9511 I wouldn’t do it. I just traded a 2024 model s long range for a cybertruck. The reasons are build quality, space and storage capacity. I liked many things about the model s but it’s built on an old platform. You can tell that they have tried to refine it so much over the years and you can feel that. But the door handles and doors feel cheap. The motors in the trunk sound terrible. The car is luxurious per se but the cybertruck is built like a tank. I like the solidity of it. The doors feel like a bank vault. The stainless steel is nice too because you don’t have to worry about scratches, etc. I will say the drive units and battery were phenomenal in the model s. The range was very nice. The car looks really good. But again I am a stickler for build quality, and in areas that are important to me it’s lacking. It’s weird though because getting behind the wheel it feels as good as any luxury car out there. It rides extremely well, but overall body build quality is out of date. Good luck, and I wish you well in whatever direction you choose. If you buy the model s just realize that you will lose 20-30k the moment you drive it off the lot. I paid 82k out the door for mine in may. I sold it for 51k in December and it only had 10k miles in perfect condition…. Be wise. 👍

I have the standard range, lightning, and the 240 miles of range, I have had to stop in charge just once. But this past year when they started allowing it to come off the top, I think that’s going to actually hurt me when taxes come around. I’m going to have that 7,500 liability this year. And if I claim more write offs to lower that amount, then I won’t technically qualify for it to come off the top and they’ll probably want me to pay it back. Today, many (most?) EV shoppers mid (>$100K) to high earners. Silicon Valley / Seattle tech workers are a key market ($ and tech savvy). Most tech workers do not qualify for the credit today, meaning they have to pay $7,500 more than others -- these people do not want to overpay, so are incentivized to buy ICE cars (to avoid losing $7500 in equity immediately). Further, on the low end, buyers have to pay $7500 in taxes to be able to fully benefit from the credit. My parents have the $ to buy one, but their retirement income does not allow them to take full advantage of the tax credit. So low to moderate income households also are not incentivized to buy EV's. This unfair credit shifts demand to a much narrower market. If it went away, it would open up new market segments to get the same pricer as others.

I think removing the tax credit would be harmful. I got an EV with a lease only because of the tax credit and I got a bonus from work because I signed a contract extension. And I am by no means rich.

I really wish you would refrain from referencing the "average battery". You mentioned that the average battery will last 200k miles - That means that 50% (half are below the average) will not make 200k miles. What if you happen to be one of the half that doesn't make it? If you want to instill confidence, then warranty the battery for 200k miles - that will do far more for my piece of mind, especially for used vehicles.

I think they should just remove the requirement for US parts to qualify for the credit. This hurts the diversity of the battery offerings. They should instead incentivize American businesses to enter battery production separately. However, removing the credit entirely doesn't make sense as long as we continue to subsidize fossil fuels.

Not even close to being true. Tesla sold almost 1 million EVs at a profit in 2021, without tax credits. Tesla sold 1.3 million EVs at a profit in 2022, without tax credits. FSD reminds me of the push years ago for 3D televisions. The manufacturers, investors, and enthusiasts all wanted to believe it was the future and that they could charge a premium for it. But the majority of consumers weren't interested even at a modest premium. Just because the technology makes something possible, doesn't mean the demand will be there. I am into technology and gadgets and spend a lot of money on it. But I have no interest in FSD even at $100/mo. I really don't mind driving around town. And for long freeway drives, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, and collision detection I get "for free" are perfectly fine.

The EV tax credit is beneficial and should stay. $112B in tax incentives is a drop in the bucket compared to other unnecessary wasteful government subsidies/programs. If Elon thinks getting rid of the EV tax credit would give Tesla an edge over other EV manufacturers, then he should be ready for a rude awakening.

Abolishing the EV tax credit is fundamentally stupid. The oil & gas industry has received over ONE TRILLION dollars in subsidies since circa 1975. However I DO agree that it benefits the wealthy too much. I would say the best approach would be to offer more discounts on cheaper cars. A $45000 car gets 8k off. A 60,000 car gets 6k off, and a 80k car gets $4k off. This serves to still incentivize the wealthier buyers, but pushes mass market EVs more aggressively.

Taking away the EV credit knocks a lot of people out of the market. Without it they will choose a gas powered vehicle. Price is a major consideration in buying a car. Pricing people out of the market when the manufacturers are not hitting full stride (there needs to be more than a few) will not end well.

$7500 credit is means tested, so no dice. My reservation was for a $49,900 AWD, so the current price is still $30k above what I was expecting. I fully expected an inflation adjustment-which means the $49.9k truck should be ~$63k, not $80k. 2WD is not what I signed up for, I'd not buy the 2WD for $49.9k. If this vehicle was the same price adjusted for inflation I expected, it would already be in my driveway. I should add that while waiting I started thinking I might go for the 3 motor at $80k, this isn't about money availability.

Idk, the CT’s pierce increased by 50%… that’s quite the markup. The top range model was supposed to be $69k… the current Cyberbeast price is $105k. That’s a $35k or 50% markup. This on a vehicle that was supposed to be super cheap to produce due to the advanced manufacturing techniques. Seems any savings have been pocketed by Tesla instead of passed on to the consumer. The all wheel drive model is $82k… I don’t include the tax credit. If you can afford a $100k vehicle you will not qualify for the tax credit as you likely earn too much annually… so it’s a mute point.

I think the EV Tax Credit did exactly what it was intended to do. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of ICE cars have been taken off the road and replaced with clean running EV’s. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of drivers have been introduced to the benefits of owning and driving EV’s. They can see for themselves the amount of misinformation and FUD about EV’s in the news media which is mainly financed by big oil and the traditional automakers. Plus friends of the new EV owners get rides and positive feedback, potentially turning them into new EV owners. Veronique De Rugy’s article about the EV Tax Credit benefiting the wealthy and contributing to the Federal tax revenue deficit is exaggerated and misleading. The annual cost of the EV Tax Credit to the Federal Deficit is about $2 Billion. I would argue that the large tax cuts given to the wealthy during Trump’s first term as president (annual cost of $283 Billion to the Federal Deficit) along with the millions of dollars of tax breaks given to the big oil companies and their wealthy investors annually for oil exploration (annual cost of $20 Billion to the Federal Deficit), contributes more to the tax revenue deficit then the EV Tax Credit. Plus the super wealthy are the ones who benefit from Trump’s tax cuts and oil exploration tax breaks, while the middle and upper middle class are the ones that mainly benefit from the EV Tax Credit. Let’s just hope that Elon doesn’t inadvertently kill this EV positive trend when Trump starts getting pressure from big oil and old auto makers to kill production of EV’s. Like Trump has said about backing oil exploration, “Drill, baby, drill”.
