No, not at all. From the front 3 quarter it IS a 5 Series. Stop the video @ 01:08........... The 'Russian Doll' design is extraordinarily lazy. Yes, have the typical Mercedes cues but cookie cutter cars? No. Not sold on the inside especially with the lack of real buttons, but maybe that's just the way cars are headed. Selfie cam?? Really?? Wheres's the heated windscreen? Now THAT is something useful. Rear lights, very chintzy. Having said all that, not seen it in the flesh yet.

There's just something about this car's proportions that look and feel bang on - especially in the exclusive trim (dark color with light interior). I cannot stop looking at the car in motion from all the various reveal videos posted online this week. To my eye, this new E is stunningly good looking (inside and out). I would honestly prefer this over the S-class. Job well done Mercedes.

I didn't like it at first, but after watching a few reviews I think I'm in love with it! Not sure if I can live without buttons though! Agree that it's better looking than the S class. Just hope they don't skimp on refinement, although they probably will in order to make sure they can sell some S classes.

Very nice! My wife used to drive Mercedes E cars and loved them, but Mercedes no longer sells real hybrids in the US because their roadmap here is towards pure electrics. We traded her last E350 in for a BMW 530e. The 530e is a seriously nice car, and we were both surprised by the fact that the BMW with the performance suspension not only handled better than the Merc, but had a smoother and quieter ride despite the sport tires. Don’t know how they did that. What really clinched the deal was that the E300 with just the four cylinder gas engine was actually priced higher that the 530e, even without the government tax incentives the on the 530e. That made the purchase decision a no-brainer. She mostly drives the BMW on local trips on the battery, and since we have owned it overall fuel mileage has been 57mpg.

How was the 5 series dominant over E-class. It's a matter of preference. The E-class is more luxorious and has a more comfortable ride. The 5 series is more sporty oriented. I've driven both w213 and g30. I can never say the g30 is a better car. I actually prefer the w213 styling and ride.

The E class has dominated the 5 series for as long as I can remember. Starting with the W124 which was literally a tank and was one of the most reliable cars of all time. The 5 series of that generation didn’t come close. The E class has remained superior to the 5-series.

I've been trying to get reinterested in the E-Class sedan and they're just no way. The GLE is the way to go, and as far as the battery is concerned, it just doesn't make financial sense short-term or long-term. Short-term the up front expense is impossible to catch up with the cost of gasoline and in the long run replacing those battery packs is going to be absurdly expensive, probably to the point of exceeding the cars value.

Wheels and tires size make for a jarring ride input up front. Prefer knobs over pressing on screens. These impractical designs are shared across the automobile manufacturers. I will keep my older cars and and repair when possible. The new cars are just not as good as in the past. They are loaded with technology that makes driving more difficult and in some ways more distracting and thus less safe.

Historically, the E-class has been the least aesthetically attractive of the C, E and S class to me. It has typically been more conservative and sometimes a bit clunky. This version seems more sleek and elegant than the outgoing model and especially the one before that with the very wide rear. The DC charging is useful for the owner, but not for everyone else. PHEVs risk occupying essential chargers for BEVs. But considering a long drive, where you need a break without having to top up the petrol trank, adding a 15-20 minute charge to the battery could significantly reduce consumption on long journeys, so actually quite useful - now the battery has grown. This PHEV will be a very useful tool to traverse long distances in Germany, where high speed and frequent braking is neither great for BEVs or non-hybrid vehicles. Now all that remains is to package the batteries a bit better for less trunk space penalty - another important feature of a car like this.

Its a great looking car, so much classier than an SUV. I was going to keep my 2018 E class for a few years longer, but not sure if I'll be able to resist this new one! I just hope they have paid attention to road noise though, as on rough UK roads I find that my current car performs very badly in this area, despite only being on 18" wheels. If they haven't improved on this I will look elsewhere.

5 series never dominant , I bought my first e class 18 years ago and 5 series was not even near e Class When I compared the two . Since then I never wish to buy 5 series and had 3 e classes .

The E class is the sweet spot in the Merc. line up. And it's built to take the miles, hence it's popularity as a taxi, and Merc. will make sure the latest one doesn't dent that reputation. I've done nearly 60k miles in my 2018 E class and literally nothing has gone wrong with it. The 5 series by comparison has very poor reliability.

The Mercedes diesel 4 cylinder E class has been the leading taxi in Germany for a good reason - think about it. The S class is not a common ‘taxi’ anywhere, including Scotland. The only S class I’ve seen used as taxis is to ferry first class passengers from airport terminals directly to aircraft. Do you honestly believe taxi drivers in Glasgow use $130,000 cars to schlep drunks from one bar to another? Yeah, right.

they have like 200 horsepower and no leather. it's a taxi spec and in no way lowers the E class. Lots of doctors and lawyers have E class in Germany too. I guess you travel but you just have a super low IQ

I love looking at the publicity interior views and working out exactly what among the glitz is actually an optional extra (because Germans...). If you could get it all at the headline price, it might be impressive, but then you add up the options and that £50k car suddenly becomes a £70k+ car. I'm sure the fleet operator / contract hire businesses will be out buying up every hybrid/EV to bang out to wealthy users and make M-B sales figures look good. Does the typical Berlin taxi-driver still run a pov-spec E-Class nowadays? Me? If I remortgaged my house and extended my garage, it might be the only way I could get even poorer than under various execrable investment managers. So glad I'm not in the least bit interested in the modern car digifest epidemic - so much equipment ready to fail and whatever anybody thinks of German car quality, their systems are all lowest-possible-cost behind the shiny screens.

Have been driving C class since 2000 till now, w205. I think it's time to switch to Lexus or others that offer pure combustion engine. I never liked electric nor enjoyed charging phone and laptop, let alone car. Bye bye Mercedes.
