Although the new S Class looks great on video I had the opportunity to see one in person in a showroom this week and although I currently own an S560, this new S class is a big step up. It’s stunningly beautiful in person. The interior just exudes luxury. My only concern are the controls. The more we move forward with less buttons, the more I feel we need to read the controls, hence a big road distraction. I can’t help wonder if driving at 100 mph and searching for a seat massage option is wise. I feel the same about the new EQS controls.

I would add that if you want to enjoy more serene quiet at lower speeds then the S580 plugin might do the trick and you might also have a better answer to others who blame climate change on your car alone. Mercedes must also find more "younger" buyers who have grown up with smartphones (the iphone is 15yrs old now) where buttons are old-man tech. Also remember that a vast number of the S-Class are chauffeur driven (I'd say all the LWB and every Maybach) so what the front driver has to get used to, is irrelevant. Its not like you're dropping the S-class into your mates backstreet garage for servicing and if you can afford the S-Class, you can afford the service cost (post warranty) so button failures are the mechanics problem.

@stephendoherty82912 жыл бұрын
I suspect more 7-Series buyers drive their own car. Always had a soft spot for the 750i with its V12. Good enough to be an Rolls Royce. Ironically the BMW7 probably hides your expression of wealth than the S-Class. Both the S600 and the 750i will be collectors cars just for the engine and suspension alone. I just dont think many self made wealth sees driving these as looking like their old wall st banker car. It seems weird that anyone would buy a diesel S class or 7-series yet they were the best sellers. The next LWB EQS will be the new pinnacle of both Mercedes tech and its lavish attention instead of the S-class. BMW are further behind by the V12 is gone and so will the V8 soon.

thats because its taken the design language from the lesser models, no longer being the trendsetting flagship. Mercedes has made its intentions clear that because the sedan segment is dying, they're not going spend money where they dont need to. It shows in the interior as well, the slapped on dash screens look nasty, and in my opinion is lazy design, that won't age well, perhaps another cost cutting measure.

The government: don’t use your technology while driving Tesla and Merc: you can only control your car with a massive iPad 😂

Sold on the car like 2 minutes in, realize 16 minutes into video not a thing about the performance has been mentioned. Wow, what a video and what a car.

15:35 , what do you mean pioneered by audi ? wich system ? because i remember the previous s class had this feature to bend on turns like a motorcycle .
@Metesem194 жыл бұрын
actually more things were poneered by audi, the augmented reality was presented by audi on a concept car.. audi had the ideas, just had not put it in production (yet)
@sokolmiftari38874 жыл бұрын
@@Metesem19 ok but not that what he said , the s class previous generation had the motorcycle body roll , now they just improved that , and audi copy that, mercedes previous generation had magic body control now audi a8 copy that .
@Metesem194 жыл бұрын
@@sokolmiftari3887 bmw 7 series can do the same, not sure if bmw or merc was first.. what i do know is audi was the first to do a lot of thungs with individual suspension set ups for safety reason that merc has copied now. Not a bad thing tho.. this is how they advance
@sokolmiftari38874 жыл бұрын
@@Metesem19 the only actual thing that merc copy from audi is that side colision suspension lift up , other things are not a copy its just some people watch more audi videos and never know what a merc or bmw is like

Merc seem to be going back wards in terms of exterior styling but forwards on the interior.

Why isn’t the rear-wheel steering or E-Active suspension going to be offered on the S-Class in the UK?
@thunderpants0074 жыл бұрын
@Josh Bacon Easy, they can't be assed moving other components around to make it work with right hand drive. Not as bad as UK manufacturers not offering a RHD version, but nearly. If you've got cash to throw around buy a UK manufactured car, Aston, RR or Bentley... esp Aston they have invested hugely in the U.K. with a fresh manufacturing plant for the DBX.

An electric S-Class is a future I can get behind

I think the hybrid sounds great - 60 miles or so of electric range, but then the ability to put in hundreds of miles for big trips without worrying about the charging infrastructure

@mziwendukuntsele6714 жыл бұрын
The A8 isn't exact a 2nd rate car. Brilliant car in its own right. Merc took lots of inspiration from your car when creating this S-class.

This Presenter is the best on the web. His knowledge of the cars he tests and comments on is prodigious but he manages to only point out the things that a buyer would be interested in.
