They can make them because only handful of people will buy it. The v12 isn’t mass produced so they can still keep within the emission levels
@magnustan8413 жыл бұрын
The question I have, does the even need a V12? I know the basic idea, more cylinders means the engine is smoother when it delivers power. However, from an enthusiast’s standpoint, in the future, ICEs should be largely reserved for high performance cars and sports cars, as well as other vehicles that cannot transition to clean energy propulsion solutions very easily, like long distance lorries and buses. The S680 V12 Maybach emits more than 300g of CO2/km and you can easily get that same V12 smoothness from an electric powertrain. What’s more, an EV is near-on silent, which perfectly fits the requirements of a luxury car and zero emissions vehicles get financial incentives in an urban environment, which is where a car like this will most likely end up. So for me at least, it’s nice the V12 is around, but this is a “wasted application” of an exotic combustion engine. Luxury cars should be electric or hybrid as far as possible, just my two cents. I can’t wait for Rolls Royce and Maybach to release EVs.
@antoniohagopian2133 жыл бұрын
@@magnustan841 you don't pay more then 200k $ to waste time charging the car, even if you have a chauffeur, anytime he waists charging the car is time he can't be driving for you, add to that the huge space eating batteries and it's not a luxury car anymore since you have to wait for it all the time, have no more space because of the batteries, have plebian levels of trunk capacity. It ain't working sunshine, when you pay big amounts you want no compromises, EV are pure compromise for a Maybach
@magnustan8413 жыл бұрын
@@antoniohagopian213 Well, if you’re wealthy enough to buy one, you will have the money to install a home charger. Okay, I get where you’re coming from, I agree with the space argument. So maybe not right now, but the next Maybach model should be an EV, like an EQS Maybach. My main gripe is why weren’t luxury car makers one of the first to release an EV on a dedicated EV platform, where you can optimise the use of space. When VW announced they were throwing their weight behind EVs, I thought one of the first new EVs to come out would be an electric Bentley. I still think EVs and luxury cars are a perfect match, if charging infrastructure were good enough.

£201,000 for the Maybach S680 doesn't appear too "expensive" when the entry level Rolls Royce Phantom (in today's prices) is £351,486 and that's before options are added to an already bespoke vehicle. Mercedes Benz certainly scored a masterstroke when they revived Maybach and it seriously needs a GT Coupè (whereas Maserati, Bentley and Rolls Royce et cetera have one) to compete with luxury rivals - excellent work.

They are direct competitors. They are in a six figure range that most people in the world can't afford. The Rolls-Royce Phantom is double the price and for what reason? @@Sbrumtwn I agree. If I'm not mistaken, this beats them in terms of pure tech and luxury. I think Rolls Royce amd Bentleys have more presence and RR's interior has a lot of (awesome) gimmicks. But I would go Maybach for sure.

Impressed with the button that opens the car door? regular taxis in Japan have been doing that for 20 years.

You're right that car is brilliant. You're good man your attention to detail and your ability to articulate it clearly is impressive. You sir are a gentleman of charm, wit and sagacity. Prodigious work 😎

To be honest with you, no matter how much nicer the competitors are, if I had the money I would buy a Bentley. That's it.

Rory what do you think of the EV version of this car and how many miles do these cars normally do in a year?
@ridgefrost3 жыл бұрын
i've never been in a mayback so i cant say much abt it but i'd like to know why so many wealthy people like them alot in some cases even more than its competition despite it being pretty well known that rolls royce's suspension system is abit more comfortable and road isolating, maybe thats not all that matters in a luxury car?

I love the way these cars age. Nothing ever goes wrong and are cheap to fix if they do. The white interior stays really white for decades as well.
