I'll definitely check out Sear Bliss. I laughed when the fucking trombone came out but it sounds sick as hell. I wish metal bands would experiment with more kinds of instruments. I feel like a lot of genres have kind of just stayed the same and new genres haven't really proliferated.

I don’t know what it is but every pallet cleanser you mention, I love the instrumental, but the vocals always let me down. They’re good, objectively, but when you’ve heard Maiden’s back catalogue forwards and backwards 20 times over, just nothing can top Bruce! Shit, I saw the name Lucifer's Hammer and I thought that my local Michigan ethereal blackened death metal boys were back! No, it's just a Maiden rip-off from somewhere... I don't care where. I've never felt so detached from my favorite music before. I shouldn't be most excited for the Cavalera's to re-record an old Sepultura album, but that's where I'm at. I know I'm old and don't give newer bands a chance, but I don't have the money or space to buy and collect hundreds of Metal albums anymore. I want new innovative and exciting music and bands, and I'm just not hearing it nowadays... and Kerry King Band sure ain't giving that to me.

Powerviolence is metal in my book. If your criteria for something being metal is that they have to be on Metal Archives then you'd be missing out on lots of great metal bands such as Between The Buried And Me and Periphery.

Wait, so Lucifer's Hammer is metal, but Groin isn't? Why is Power Violence not metal, especially when they make their own music? As for Lucifer's Hammer, I can hear/understand every word, and if there is distortion, it's minimal. Maybe for Groin, as I was actually paying attention to the video, it's a matter that they just aren't on The Metal Archives database.
