I don't remember well, but there were some fans who said that Zero Mission and Samus Returns weren't canon, or not as important, or something like that. Well, the Chozo memories weren't there for nothing now! And in that trailer, Samus seems to be looking at some hieroglyphics that looked like the ones she saw as a child and remembered in the Chozo ruins in Zero Mission. So there they go again!

That guy was right. The Metroid timeline is structured in a way that either the originals or remakes can be canon. After all, WE are ones seeing the Chozo memories, not Samus.

Of course ZM and SR are the canon ones over the OG Metroid and Metroid 2 respectively. I think people saying otherwise had as their only exposition to the series the Dread marketing (that ignores the remakes, OtherM and all the Primes for the sake of the numbered entries thing).

Although the remakes are probably more canon, either can be considered canon with no effect on the series continuity, as added differences are usually contained in the game it takes place in. An exception to this would be the Chozo Memories, but Samus doesn't see the memories, so it has no effect.

@ArtBuffalo She is immune to them... that whole thing about her "reverting to her old genetic makeup" when she gets the Omega Suit was retconned, the entire plot of Dread is centered around Samus investigating possible findings of X on a remote planet, as she feels duty-bound to do so as the "only one immune to the X."

@@Marxhog The reason the scientists has trouble removing her suit is becuase it's mentally connected to her, and she needs to make the conscious decision to take it off for it to be removed. Sakamoto actually had an explanation for how Samus lost her suit in Zero Mission, but I'd highly discourage reading it unless you want Samus's power suit to be completely ruined for you becuase of the sheer stupidity of the lore. "For Samus to remain connected with the Power Suit requires mental energy unfathomable to an ordinary person. In situations like this when she is under pressure, [referring to the crash-landing] indeed, even Samus is unable to concentrate her mental energy. However, when Samus completes the trial of the spirit of the mural (God of War), she regains her strong force of will and can successfully integrate with the Legendary Power Suit." So basically, the Power Suit is this weird space-magicky thing that she can summon into existence at will and needs to "concentrate" to stay connected with. Kinda stupid but it's canon I guess 🤷‍♂️. In Dread, Samus's Suit she gets back from the SA-X at the end of fusion is still essentially "growing back" to its original armored form according to the Dread report, which kinda explains why it looks like an in-between version of her Fusion Suit and Power Suit.
