Steve, "My Spanish is a little rusty." Also Steve, "Actually I don't speak Spanish." Me: 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂

Thank you, Steve, for bringing such a fun and explorative approach. As an agave spirit lover in California, who mostly sips neat, this looks like so much fun. 🙏👏😀

I made the Conservatorio and riffed the Mezcalita Xipe. I didn't want to bother with charring pineapple or sourcing worm salt, so I opted to make a few substitutions. First up: 3 drops of saline solution for an even brininess, 3 drops of Hellfire bitters to accentuate the mezcal and ginger syrup, and a little MSG to give a little umami to balance the cocktail's acidity and spice in place of the earthiness that would be in the worm salt. Btw, freshly ground cardamom is such a nice and warming garnish. I'm surprised it's not used more.

This christmas I got a bottle of mezcal so the timing of this video is perfect! Thanks, Steve!!

I love tequila! Usually start my day with a mini Bloody Maria. Those pastel drinks are some of the prettiest I've ever seen. Your Spanish is not too bad. Actually, Italian vowels are similar, so going with Italian will serve you pretty well. Spanish vowels never change. Once you get the hang of them, pronunciation is easy. H will usually be silent. J will usually sound like H. Double LL will usually sound like a Y. There you go! Cheers and Happy New Year from Indiana!

Not sure if you covered it previously, but i recently stumbled across the 'Spicy Dead Lady' which is delicious! If not familiar i highly recommend it! Its equal parts Mezcal, Aperol, falernum and lime juice, with a dash of habanero tincture (such as Scrappy's Firewater).

I'll have to try the Xipe. It sounds a lot like another drink that I've had, where prickly pear replaces the pineapple.

Funny thing that this is about "mexican" cocktails but most of the ingredients are expensive and very difficult to find here in Mexico e.g. Geen Chartreuse or Amaretto :(
@StevetheBartender_Күн бұрын
They’re not traditional Mexican cocktails.. they are modern creations from Mexico City bars.

I make a hibiscus syrup can I just substitute that instead of the hibiscus water and simple syrup?
@jeffdonegan2062Күн бұрын
I mean, I would; the only thing is they may have intended for more dilution or maybe the cold extraction has a somewhat less concentrated flavor that they’re aiming for. Maybe just a hibiscus syrup where you hit a boil without sugar, turn off and let steep for like thirty before straining and combining with sugar

Ancho Reyes, I bought a bottle 2 years ago and I'm afraid that I will still have that same bottle in about 10 years. I tried it in some cocktails, I just can't stand it

What I love and hate about these cocktails is the ingredient requirements, which I will probably only use once. They all sound so good. I have difficulty determining if I should get the ingredients, like a whole can of coconut milk or evaporated milk.
@StevetheBartender_Күн бұрын
Coconut milk can be used in plenty of drinks although evaporated is rarely used..

Your Spanish isn't bad at all, considering you don't speak it. You have what it takes to do it well, you should learn Spanish. Yo no soy Mejicana, soy Sudamericana. Anímate y aprende el idioma hablado por mas países en el mundo.
