Thank you for the history of this time period. My great grandmother was born in Las Vegas in 1891. I wish I could go back in time to speak to my ancestors, the great-great grandparents so they can tell me the stories of what life was like back in those days and what they experienced.

I inherited from my Dad a New Mexico Magazine article ((1992) by Jack Kutz ,"Las Gorras Blancas-Vigilantes Storm into the Night." Kutz wrote both the White Caps getting in gunfights sometimes resulting in death. During these battle they communicated with self-made whistles to preclude anyone identifying then by voice. Besides fence cutting they burned crops, shot livestock, broke up farm machinery burned a saw mill to the ground , destroyed railroad ties, tracks and bridges. Anyway, I wish you enlighten us with more in depth stories of those of the pistolero, desperado and lawmen of late 19th century NM such as my great- grand uncle Daniel (el valiente) Archuleta, Town marshal of Magdalena, who was assassinated in 1916

Very interesting...I'll be doing some studying on the topic as I know nothing about the time frame you speak on. My family is from San Miguel county. Dad's family is from Mora, moms family is from El Cerrito and La Garrita...both grandparents (and my parents) came to Denver in 1947. Grand dad had some great stories and he said Anglos from the east would arrive in the county with the US Army in an attempt to cheat people out of their land...thanks for the talk and inspiration to learn more of life in San Miguel county!

How interesting! I am trying to learn more about the family, and I understand that they came from Santa Cruz de la Cañada. I was wondering: do you know if the three brothers are related to Manuela HERRERA Bowdre (widow of Charlie Bowdre, who rode with Billy the Kid?). I wondered if the three brothers might have been Manuela's primos, which would be interesting since the Gorras Blancas somehow have been a continuation of the 'Robin Hood' role attributed to the Regulators by Nuevomexicanos.
