It is a fact that from all Tesla factories, Fremont is by far the worst in terms of quality. Here in Europe, for many years now we get all Model 3s from China and Model Y usually from Berlin (maybe the first batch of new Model Ys will come from China, though). And we have way less problems with those Model 3s than with those that came over to Europe before from Fremont. Also the quality of S and X are substantially sub-par compared to the Teslas coming from China and Berlin.

To be honest, that what was learned from the first Fremont models was to a degree implemented in both the later Chinese and US versions. But maybe not everything. They both constantly improve. So, a later model will always have less imperfections than an earlier one, not matter where it was built.

I use my model y also for towing. I have to charge about every 100 miles. Also if the batteries were bigger you would charge less. This means the cycle life would be less and your battery would last even longer. I also have a 2017 fiat 500e that I bought really cheap for commuting a few years back. This battery gets cycled every day mon-fri. Probably around 250 times a year. Where as the Tesla we probably are close to 120 times a year. So keep that in mind when thinking about range.

I had no clue you are a meteorologist. Thanks for sharing your views on climate change - no disagreement here....very well put. On a related matter, I wish more attention was focused on messaging (what in my mind is) THE most important "quality of life" improving attribute of EV's - AIR QUALITY! This benefit alone should compel the world to adopt EV's. Big oil cannot debate this as it is FACT. Particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), unburned hydrocarbons (UHC like benzene, toluene, xylene), and greenhouse gases (water vapor, CO2, N2O, etc.) are all emitted from ICE tailpipes. We all breath it, some more than others depending on where you live. Toxic, (or at least unnatural concentrations of emission) components get into the soil and water and the fish - into the ecosystem AND, they may accelerate the rate of global climate change! Please people, spread this message as a vital reason for change to and adoption of BEVs. Of course, hand in hand with EV's is renewable energy development so that the emission is not just transferred from moving to stationary sources.

Tesla really needed the front camera, so I'm glad it is there now. But it also needs cameras under the mirrors so it can do the birds eye view, or 360 view. If you have ever used that on another car it's a hard thing to do without when driving a Tesla, all the other luxury cars have it. $50 for two more cameras. Tesla range to low 400 miles is the sweet spot
@MachB336 сағат бұрын
The market has and will determine the sweet spot for range relative to cost. If the current range was too low, Tesla would not have sold as many cars as they have. I agree with their discussion at minute 16.
@elainebradley821313 сағат бұрын
It is 110 miles to the nearest supercharger. But we seldom go in that direction. So range for travelling around our island is very important. Especially in -20 C and 4 inches of snow to drive through. We've always been ok but more range or some local chargers would help a great deal.
@taqmobile13 сағат бұрын
The logic at 6:35 doesn't hold. If 70 parts = 1 part now... a dent would need to replace that whole big part and cost much more. The simplified part casting definitely makes them easier and cheaper to build, but the downside of that is that they will be much more expensive to repair as you aren't just replacing a few parts but instead have to replace half the car to fix a fender bender.
@ricky467312 сағат бұрын
Since they have tesla insurance too, they have an excuse to raise the price. Double profit.
@michaelsmithers490012 сағат бұрын
I haven’t heard this logic supported by teardown experts like sandy munro. When you have a hundred welded together stampings you don’t replace a few like a broken engine component. Frame straightening happens on a large metal rack and there are demonstrations of this on castings on KZbin.
@taqmobile12 сағат бұрын
@michaelsmithers4900 i mean the existing models and their giga casting is already super expensive because you cant just swap out a quarter panel like most cars. Making it even more unibody seems like now you need to replace entire chunks of the car to fix it. Don't see how that will make repairs cheaper but fingers crossed.

My first (and only) Tesla is a 2018 Model 3. The Model Y was not yet out and the Model S and X were way out of budget. I have wanted to upgrade is to a Model Y for a year or so but I really didn’t want to get the exact same car that everyone else is driving. Once I saw what they put into the Model 3 refresh, I knew I was going to wait. The exterior of the Model Y looks different and that’s all I really wanted. I am sure there will also be third party exterior modifications available quickly - I added a body color wing on my model 3 because I didn’t like the trunk shape. I’m most looking forward to having an easier time getting in and out of the car, but also can’t wait to experience the smoother and quieter ride. The extra space is going to remove any remaining reason to use my larger car for a task. I will be ordering a white AWD Model Y on the first day the US sales open - even if it’s a bit more for a ‘launch’ edition. I don’t even mind that the FSD transfer option is gone - I’ll just use the standard EAP.

The new Juniper Y is fantastic. If not V to L/G/E, no new Tesla for me. I would rather stay with Tesla, be it MUST have V to L minimum, and I want V to G/E. I also wanted a MUCH softer ride and moew ground clearance. Much plusher seats with message air cooled heated seats. Also, 11.5 kw V to V would be great. I really think you're missing the point of the light bar. It's about safety. Elon is about safety. This is form following function. If you want to create a situation where other people most clearly understand the size, distance, and orientation of a vehicle, which may be in fog or heavy rain, you need a bar that spans the maximum width of the vehicle that it can span--both on the front of the car and on the rear. Now they've done this.

Tesla keeps making it cheaper and cheaper to make there cars and they don’t drop the price and they don’t add more range or anything else like steer by wire or a screen in front of driver to see your speed in front instead of looking to the side. Or bidirectional power. I want a car that I can use to power my home. What good is a giant battery that is going to sit in the garage not doing anything.
@michaelsmithers490012 сағат бұрын
I tend to agree. What do you say to the argument that, in your garage you are cycling your battery without any mileage going on the odometer. The battery is partly warranted based on mileage. How do they offer a good warranty and allow for bidirectional?

@ good question. I wouldn’t mind the cycling part. It’s being put to use and I don’t mind that at all. As far as the warranty. Maybe someone can develop software that can track the cycling of the battery and make a warranty based on that. Just an idea.

Oh and not taking the battery down to 0%. So that takes your battery usage to even less.
