I LOVE that it's on mat paper, far to often i am blinded by the glossy pages of a book sitting under bright lights and giving me a headache. The art and off white background also compliments the mat finish giving it an oldtimy feel that's easy on the eyes. Unlike some 4e/5e D&D books who's bright white made you snow blind and gave math textbooks a run for their money in sterile design.

There's something I haven't seen anyone point out, and I don't know if it's a translation issue or just a preference of word-choice, but what they call 'NPC' in the bestiaries seems to correspond with humanoid. I believe the idea is "if it has an attack with a weapon that can be parried with a melee weapon, then we should allow players to parry". More monstrous creatures have bites, stings, breath attacks, etc that wouldn't make sense to be parryable. Anyway, this is my take on where they got the 'NPC' vs 'monster' terminology. IMO thematically, they're all monsters and it's just a rules difference. It also makes non-humanoid monsters more dangerous, which I like.

It's pretty simple and new player friendly. The dice system isn't bloated with modifiers and excessive opposed rolls like other games, and it's always clear what you need to roll to succeed without any math.

Holy shiz-nit, one of my major problems with Dragonbane solved…seriously, the page after the monster section clearly depicts a lizard-man, yet lizard men aren’t in the monster section

Thinking about it now I didn’t like how the original box set was paperback but soft cover has grown on me over the past year, especially that you could lay down on the bed/couch and read. you can’t do much with a hard cover. You have to be at the table.
