I had a prized basball cap that I wore everywhere, then one day my grandad 'accidentally' drove over it in his Volvo estate. (I can't remember the model) I was inconsolable (as any 5 year old would be) but my granddad instantly turned it around by telling me I was the proud owner of a stylish 'flat cap' and it was what all the cool kids wore! he was a legend and his fashion sense was 30 years ahead of his time! 👍🤠👍😁 p.s. nice hat Geoff 👍

My dad’s first was a 1962 Vauxhall Victor then moved on to a GT Corsair metalic blue(1966). Traded it in for a new signal red TR4A (1997), he found the suspension too harsh yeah I know, sold it to his mate and ordered a Mk2 Lotus Cortina (1998), he had that for two years then part exchanged it for a Lotus Elan SE3 twin webbers (1970). Got pulled up a couple of times for speeding, the insurance canned him so had to let it go. He ended up just using his company service van.

When my dad passed his test in 1985, my mum's dad agreed to give him his old car which had been sat on his drive for six months... it was an M-plate Morris Marina. However it had deteriorated through being sat unused, and also due to being a Marina, so Grandad bought a second Marina as a parts donor, which turned out to be in better shape than the first one. The eventual just-about-functional car lasted about six months before dying!

My Grandad, on the Lancashire side, was a civil engineer and Grandmother owned Ribble Estates and Developments in Preston building houses. They always had Daimler and Lanchester and I remember a BSA, which is buried in the cellar of Witton Hall which was demolished in the 1950s. He was in charge of the building of the Fray Bentos factory in Argentina and a lot of Trafford Park old estate. He died when I was about 11 I think. They had an old Nissan Hut in which was ,what would be now, a fortune in old broken down vehicles which he never got shut off. My Mothers father always had Wolsley or Austin. He was a painter decorator and she had a bakers shop.

Nice story about getting a scalextric...when you race with your boys your grandpa will be smiling down. 👍🏻 I remember getting an Airfix Motor Racing (Scalextric with cars that steered as the slot curved) set when I was a kid and my Dad bought me a special 4 wheel drive high performance Mercedes Benz racer (1950's F1 car) only to find he couldn't beat me with his blue Porsche (956 I think) Le Mans racing car. He locked himself in his man cave and emerged with his 'new and improved' hand wound armature equipped Porsche. The race started and his car was slightly faster than mine..though lacked traction out of the tight corners due to the lack of 4 wheel drive. Half way through the race though an odd burning smell gave way to a scuttling sound coming from the bottom of his car. We stopped the race and found that his 'new and improved' motor had run so hot that his car had melted and turned into a blue banana..the poor driver didn't look too happy...he'd wilted a bit...😂 It's now making me think of Big Mac...electric blue Porsche..slightly wilting in the heat! 😳😆👍🏻

Both my grandads died before I was born, I was always envious of my friends who had grandparents they saw frequently. I grew up without mains services, apart from a party line telephone, so train and scalextric sets didn't feature in my childhood. Running wild on 40,000 acres of mountain moorland and peat bog was a great alternative

My scaletrix ran on batteries, this was in the 70's, I was about 10 (I think, long time ago) when I had my scaletrix Much preferred boys toys 😊☀️ 🇬🇧

My grandad was green ! Even before milk floats? He delivered milk on a horse and cart ! Salad days when i helped him in the Welsh valleys of Blaina in the late 60s.

My dad came from Rugby in Warwickshire, he was taught to drive by the man who started Rugby Autocar . My dad died in 1965 he had one driving licence which I looked at a short while ago and I was surprised to find it was issued in 1943 in Crewe Cheshire it's just a small white card,I don't know what he was doing there.

I think scalextric racing was way ahead of its time and anyone who track races for a living (IRL), going right up to formula 1 level, could probably learn a great deal from the kind of lines employed to navigate the bends and corners of the former. :-)

I just wanted to say I subscribe to Lee the macmaster, I have to say I do love his content but recently , I have noticed that the adverts are longer quite annoying, I told him about it and he just suggested paying for add free with KZbin, I'm sorry, I would never do that he needs to be careful he will lose subscribers,👎 I don't think it was the right thing to say as you know you can control the amount of adverts that we see and I think that's brilliant that you do that, 👍keep up the good work Geoff 👏

I never knew either of my grandads and my nans didn't drive but my nans brother geoff was the closest i had to a grandad and he was a volvo man he had a red 144 that my parents used as a wedding car in 1975 qnd then a 244 and when i was a kid in the 80s he got a beautiful silver 240 glt saloon and my sister trapped my finger in the electric window lol. Ps my red 940 estate is back on the road today i live in Gloucester and my in laws live in worcester so if you see me give me a wave

Hi Geoff. Re ads - if like me, your viewers watch way more KZbin and other forms of media rather than mainstream TV (which I find unwatchable nowadays) it really is worth stumping up the £12 a month for KZbin premium and not have to endure the ads. I’m sure you’ve mentioned it before but just in case there are new folk. You guys put a lot of effort into making these pieces and need to be rewarded - so I think it’s pretty good value so you can get your 1/3rd of a penny per view or whatever it is!!

Thing is, you are giving KZbin £12 a month, of your hard earned money, you are paying KZbin it's wages, I doubt no one else but KZbin get all the £12 That's why they also put in so many ads, for the viewer to give in, say f this, I'm fed up with all the ads, I'll pay for the privilege of no adverts See where I'm going? If you are aware, it's all done by design 👍☀️

I assume that a (small) portion of it goes to the content creators so that’s cool. Hay Geoff.. Is this a coincidence or what; Saturday wanted to set up my Scallextric - sca-le-ex-tric/k.... So taking out the stuff from under the bed eventualy got it out. But? When I put it under the bed about 12 years ago and when changed mattress about 5 years ago, It' was two figure eight sets bundled in one big box, bought from second hand shop; However, though you might think I am complaining, I am Not, its just weird; The box says Micro Scalextric - Mini Challenge and the box looks new. "I gotta open the box, what is this? So, I open the box and what is inside? Only a brand new Micro Scalextrix, Yes! with TWO Little Mini cars. What? Eh? WTF. Hoestly how does that happen? Pretty neat if you know how to do it. Put an old under the bed, forget about it for a few years, get a brand new toy! I am Really per-plex-ed. Now What were you saying about yours? Please, please, please avoid politics, frankly I'm bored with it all. I know who I'm voting for and no one is now going to change my mind. I can't relate to my grandfathers as the both passed away when I was very young but bearing in mind I'm now an old fart, the first christmas present I remember was a Lego brick that lit up, it was a single brick with a wire that went to a battery pack that was about five times the size of the brick, thats how old I am, how times have changed.

Both my granddads were absolute arseholes! My love of Fiestas came from my inheriting a Fiesta off my grandma that my dad gave me as long as I became legal to drive (I was driving illegaly for many years prior to that). Loved Scalectrix tho being a girl never got one but played with everyone elses and Meccano far better than legoooooooo and still preferring big boys toyz to this day. Mmmm BBQ gotta have loadza venison! Game meats better and healthier than intensive farmed supermarket crap...

this ad stuff is getting ridiculous, it is just not focussed on the person watching. I am a male and watch vids on cars motorbikes and the likes. I'm not at all interested in washing powders, fabric conditioners and whatever problem they've invented that their product cures. Boomerang Smell????? nor am I concerned about moisturising my skin or hair, I'm 70 FFS. I'm not concerned with flash speed mops or some bloke doing his dusting in a preposterous manner. quick spray and a yellow duster is perfect in the home or car.. Surely they can focus the ads on something I actually may buy
