Future firmware wishlift: Making the Vari-speed Quantizable for lots of melodic adventures, also I always have a hard time putting the vari speed exactly on the green spot which is not ideal in live situations. And thank you for keep improving the Morphogene
@rdomain5 жыл бұрын
I agree completely with dialling in the green especially live. I wouldn't even mind if that zone was just a bit bigger on the sweep and I enjoy the microtuning yet still having a good guide to what interval you are on from the original.
@WiredSpaceWizard5 жыл бұрын
rdomain I just learned about an easy way to tune in the green. Patch Maths channel 2 or 3 to the Varispeed. Makes it much less frustrating!
@VictorSteiner5 жыл бұрын
Wired Space Wizard and turn it so that green = Maths channel max value? Or how did you make it easier that way?
@WiredSpaceWizard5 жыл бұрын
VictorSteiner usually max value on the maths channel 3 but I think that varies depending on using ch. 2 or ch. 3 as one goes to 10 volts and the other to 5 volts. Ch. 2 probably doesn’t have to go as high.
@Antispiral14 жыл бұрын
If you dont want to go faster then normal speed you can bounce your samples at half speed and then the maximum is normal speed.

Thank you so much for this update! The improved gain control addresses the biggest issue with using the Morphagene, and morph chord ratios are some welcome icing on the cake. Not that everyone doesn't love the default chord, but it's become the Morphagene version of the Wilhelm scream--haha.
@VictorSteiner5 жыл бұрын
resonant_space there was a default chord? It always felt random to me. Not enough time spent with the module I guess .. guilty.
@resonant_space5 жыл бұрын
VictorSteiner - yes, but it wouldn’t necessarily be that obvious unless you record a steady tone into the Morphagene. With Morph turned all the way CW, you hear a harmonious layered sound because the layers are at octaves and fifths.

I could see including an alternate “quick” way of changing intervals being added to the reel selection page. You could use the morph knob to turn through preset chord intervals with the splice window color indicating the selection. I could see that in addition to the text file settings so if you dont have a computer handy its still possible to change! Of course you can just have several sd cards around too :) Awesome new additions! -Zach g

I have a question on this side: It looks like the Morphagenes max input gain is +12dB. If I plug a line level signal with 1 Volt Amplitude and boost it by +12dB it should be arround 3,98V = 1 * 10^(12/20). This is still slightly less than the "normal" eurorack 5V Amplitude. Does this make any problems in the long run or is it possible with auto gain to boost it even more?

I know it is against your aesthetic for module design, but I suggest adding a small display and a data wheel to your next device that has this much complexity so that options are chosen more quickly and easily, weird push button combos are not required, and precise adjustment of parameters is possible.

Would it be possible to add quantized pitch option on the Vari-Speed knob someday? I always knock my knob out of tune and struggle to find the correct pitch again.
@drOnic175 жыл бұрын
Indeed! this happens to me a lot, which in a live situation is annoying as one can imagine. Also to quantize the Cari Speed knob would allow more melodic adventures if we control the vari speed with a sequencer or lfo

In theory something like that is possible, but we decided on this method after trying out several different things and found that this was the best method and the least likely to mess other things up. Also it is most similar to the way it is done on Mimeophon.

Since there is no longer a 140-character limit it might be possible? ;) Phonogene can't be field-updated like Morphagene. We did release a firmware rev for it in summer 2013. At this point it is likely that most Phonogenes already have this version installed.

The firmware is updated by playing an audio file into the input of the module under a special startup condition. Check the readme in the firmware package. It might be tougher to do without a computer, but it can be done from a smartphone for example.

am I glossing this correctly, will mcr1=1.0, mcr2=1.0, mcr3= -1.0 result in random panning of genes with no pitch shift and a 33% chance of reversing? Or is there a specified weighting to mcr(1, 2, 3)?
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC5 жыл бұрын
If Morph is turned fully clockwise then I think that's right, but it would be a 25% chance (there are four genes, and the "original" always plays back at 1.0). The three ratios come in "one at a time" as you turn the knob up, first mcr1, then 2, then 3.
