I've done some A/bing of the two mixes and it's night and day. The new mix sounds like how I *remember * the track sounding, but in reality it never really did. Comparativley, the original mix sounds like it's trying so hard to be loud and just isn't there. It isn't distorting, but there's a blanket in the way. With the addition of the string section at the end of the track, replacing the flanger solo, I'm excited to see how they actually might have taken the opportunity to update the whole album artistically as well as sonically given where their sound has gone since. In a way, this is a perfect antidote to the "not as good as they used to be" argument often thrown at bands that have been around as long as they have, cause this new mix (to me) makes the old one sound amateur as hell. There's merit to their old work in the way it first arrived, but the changes sound like they've embraced what the original was going for in the first place and actually done it right, with the benefit of what expertise a matured career can bring. I think in some cases, yeah, remixing isn't this comprehensive, but given how much wider, more dynamic and simply more emotive this mix is, this one might be an exception and genuinley replace the original album for me. Thanks for reminding me it was released!

@@Bendigorecords Yes I agree the remix album Origin of Symmetry is definitely better than the original but all of Muse's songs are still some of the best when it comes to rock music these days

Well, I mean if the band feels like the original mix didn't fulfill what they wanted the album to sound like, for whatever reason, then a remix would be necessary--at least for the band's sake. The clip you played of Matt Bellamy talking about how rushed the mixing of the album was is enough justification for them to dive into it again and remix it. If a remix sounds like how the band wanted it to originally sound, then it was worth it. And there are some major changes to quite a few of the songs in Muse's remix of OoS, so it isn't like they were simply remastering it and called it a remix to sell records. There are a lot of very noticeable changes.
