My biggest takeaway from this movie was how confused the tone felt. Like all the trailers and the plot FELT like it should have been a horror movie. But the scariest thing in the movie is the smiling man, but they start mowing through 50 of them within 5 minutes of his manifesting.

The reason why they work in the comics and not in the movie is because the comics weren't afraid to take their time. Sam struggled to maneuver his blasting for over 80 issues (thats almost 7 publishing years) . Bobby's guilt and anger tangibly hurt the team. Rahne took some time to fully understand her powers and learn to create a medium between the human and the wolf form. Dani and Sam constantly struggeled with the weight of leadership. Dani struggled with her heritage, responsibility, life and death for so so long. Not only that but constant mentorship problems between Charles and Erik. And Magik is a beast unto herself, and New Mutants effectively became her story after she joined the team, which ended with Inferno.

My biggest problem with the x-men movies is that they tended to only focus on the one or two characters played by the a-list actor (Hugh Jackman, Michael Fasbender, Jennifer Lawrence). This movie had a smaller cast that they were able to spend time with, its my favorite thing about the x-men and I want to see more of it in film.

The Demon Bear doesn’t work for another reason. The original Native American tale is about a wolf, not a bear. The story is called “The Wolf You Feed”. I'm sad about this one. There has been some indications that the super-hero-genre is expanding to take on elements from other genres (for example the next Dr Strange movie probably borrowing more horror-stuff). This movie had the cool potential to literally be shot like a horror movie with a mix of illusions and real threaths in a confined environment. And it feels like some of the mistakes it made were typical modern horror mistakes (inconsistancies in how the danger works which undermines expectation and a preference for big, flashy and jump-scary over smart, creeping and discomfortable horror), but that the final cut ended up going super hero, rather than super horror.

Some time ago I thought a great post credits scene for this movie would have been the kids walking into a room at the end greeted with a Nick Fury like speech but instead of Nick Fury it’s Deadpool, wearing an eyepatch, over his mask. Also maybe Negasonic is sitting nearby rolling her eyes at Deadpool trying to be Nick Fury while she’s on Twitter or something. Would be a fun way to tie this into the MCU somehow.

The movie it's not that bad it's just that people had expectations for that were unreasonably High because of the wait. It's the reverse of what happens with a soda bottle we're with the soda bottle you have to be slow with opening it if it's shooken up that way it doesn't overflow and Fizz up on you, while when a wait is long enough for hype to continue to build up it continuously raises expectations which results in the movie not reaching those expectations and it's released falling flat. Also apparently there was supposed to be three more movies made. It's not bad movie it's just that people were expecting too much from it. I actually quite enjoyed the movie for what it was and that was another X-Men movie. It's still leagues better than X-Men apocalypse and dark Phoenix.
@kieran102024 жыл бұрын
I think MCU X-Men should be a TV show, like an 8/10 episode a year miniseries. If they did that, they could integrate all kinds of characters, including the new mutants. It could be as simple as them being students at Xavier's institute, or be more complicated, maybe after the asylum was destroyed they were taken in by Emma Frost's Massachusetts academy. There could be a new Dr Reyes who is a Sinister-made clone. Maybe he has a bunch of them since her force fields are so useful for containing his test subjects.

@laxrulz74 жыл бұрын
The biggest problems with this movie (in no particular order): 1) It couldn't commit to a genre (is it horror? is it breakfast club? Who knows!) 2) The twists were not at all twists 3) Ilyana has the most complicated, weird, hard to explain powers and not having her as the MC makes this stuff hard. How to fix: After a few initial horrors, show the bear watching Rayne from the woods. This gives a nice pump fake that maybe the bear is Dani's subconscious "hating herself for her feelings towards Rayne" or something when actually it's hinting that the bear isn't related to Dani's fear. Tie the Bear's origin to Lockheed's origin (maybe a flashback to Dani as a kid with a stuffed bear in the background) Throw some mumbo-jumbo into the mix on the tests with Dani that her powers seems to be illusions but when she gets really worked up, she seems to access energy from some other dimension. DO NOT show Ilyana with sword/arm early in the movie. She can JUST teleport. Bear shows up towards the end and attacks, messing up Ilyana. It mangles her arm, scratches her up and generally leaves her nearly dead. Dani, distraught, runs to her and their powers combine so that Ilyana can open a portal to the dimension that Dani draws energy from. Ilyana and her stuffed dragon fall in. Team runs from the bear. Ilyana shows back up (like 30-45 seconds later... it should be quick). Her hair and makeup are notably different (for the best effect, she should have short hair throughout the whole movie and now she has hair down her entire back). She's got the full metal arm (and Lockheed on her shoulder) and she says something like, "Turns out I had some growing up to do... and I learned a few things." The sword materializes (big dramatic music) and she starts attacking the bear. Team works together to beat the bear back, eventually Dani creates the BEAR's fear and, while it's paralyzed, Magik rams it through the heart with the sword, causing it shrink back into the worn, beatup Teddy bear from Dani's youth. This ties a lot of the various loose plot threads together. I think there's more work to be done with Essex corp (why doesn't a mysterious doctor or businessman make an appearance in here? In the comics, Mr. Sinister is obsessed with tweaking bloodlines until, eventually, he gets Jean Grey and Scott Summers to have a kid... he could easily be interested in these characters for much the same reason... Have some notes indicating that the Doctor should encourage Roberto and Rayne to get together or something... Is that creepy? Yes!! Which is exactly what it should be. It also gives an explanation later. Maybe Mr. Sinister wants Dani killed simply because she was throwing a monkey wrench into his eugenics program.)

@garywillig51434 жыл бұрын
A fan made a rewrite of the movie on fanfiction.net which I think is much better than the actual movie. The 3 main changes are switching Cecilia Reyes for Emma Frost, who works better as a villain and makes more sense to be alone at the facility since she knows everything with her telepathy, making the Demon Bear real and not a creation of Dani's powers so it has a presence throughout the story, and rewriting Magik's character entirely so that she's true to the comics. The last change makes a huge difference because it gets rid of the plot-holes surrounding her and makes the entire story more interesting by having another, better mystery as opposed to the dull 'what are Dani's powers' mystery. Why she chooses to stay in the facility when she can teleport is an important plot point and not a plot hole like it is in the actual movie. Even Sam and Roberto are better, though the changes to them are more subtle. Sam gets that 'getting better' scene he was missing and Roberto's relationship with Illyana is more complicated. He also has more of a reaction to the pool scene. It's still not perfect, but it's so much better than the movie we got. www.fanfiction.net/s/13690141/1/New-Mutants-film-rewrite

I always heard the story as two wolves as well. It would be interesting if we had Dani's father called her a nickname like "his little cub" or "his little bear". Something that makes the change from wolves to bears make sense. Something that shows that there is backstory and meaning behind it without having to explain; "my dad used to call me his little bear", etc. I was excited in the new mutants in the sense that I was excited about Rogue One. It was something outside the main movies that could be a new way to introduce mutants and the X Men without doing ANOTHER origin story. It wasn't that great, it had its moments. I wish it stuck with the horror movie theme and kept it simple with powers and such. X Men has great story arcs but its always character driven. They needed to focus on the characters itself and kept it, not formulaic, but has an easy to follow path for the plot.

I haven't seen this yet but I'm tempted to just for Anya Taylor-Joy. I can't even remember the last time I was as enraptured by any actor as I was seeing her in Emma and Queen's Gambit.

I really enjoyed her character. She's a pretty solid actress. Hope to see more of her in the future.

I have problems with implied concepts of don't trust the medical staff and adults don't know anything or are evil/the enemy. Thank you for this video.

I think the movie would have been better if the facility they were at had more people there. It was weird seeing just them and Reyes at the facility. Them having to actually fight the Bear as a TEAM and defeating it would have been great too.

I'm upset they didn't make Danny's powers big scale. If she really was more dangerous cause she couldn't control her powers how about locking everyone in their rooms and having them re-live the day in their lives where they were the most afraid? That would've made for some awesome set pieces and character moments.

I can agree it's not a perfect movie. But I liked it. It was self contained character movie.

New Mutants was wayyy better than I thought it would be. That movie made me feel something, the first x-men movie to do that since Logan.

@NandovMovies4 жыл бұрын
Yeah in the comics Kitty and Ilyana are really good friends and Lockheed hangs out with both although it is primarily Kitty's "pet".

I had so much hype for quality x men movie and a horror superhero movie and this movie was beyond disappointing.

Illyana to Sam: "Snap out of it!" This movie could have been so much more. I feel the Demon Bear should have been the halfway battle and the big fight would have been against the Essexx Corp keeping them in once they learn the truth. Plus they should have had a lot more mutants, possibly future Hellfire mutants, and as staff for the institution. So much teen angst cliquey stuff could develop the character into the "teams" that then go separate ways when they're out.

I .... actually enjoyed this movie. Not the greatest there are definitely places that it could be fixed but I enjoy it as a movie you might watch in the background while doing some work.

I'm a huge Magik fan and I'm a huge Anna-Taylor Joy fan but I feel like the actress was more Emma (Frost) than Magik.

Well the Films already botched Emma Frost in First Class... Really not a Fan of January Jones' portrayal. I wish that Rosamund Pike as cast in the role instead.

Hey, quick tutorial from a guy from Brasil to pronounce Roberto's name: -Ro is pronounced as Ho -Ber is pronounced as Bear not Bur -To is said like Toe, but we say it so fast it would be more like a Two. So "Ho-Bear-Two" for his first name. Da Costa is not as different. Cos is the same from Costume or Cosplay Ta is similar to the original. So: Ho-Bear-two da cos-ta
