I guessed at the manaphy/phione thing ages ago, I guess I'm partially right my guess was that professor willow would give us a season long research (could be next season, who knows?) that leads to manaphy, and in order to get phione, we'd need to buddy up our manaphy to 3* then walk a route and trade a ditto for an egg with an NPC while manaphy is our buddy
