if you look back far enough on my channel there are a few videos like this, earlier revision of this very board in fact. Though, crt is and will continue to be the main focus of the channel for sure. Thanks for your comment.

It's easier to solder onto the board when you don't separate the wires. Just strip the insulation off the ends.

Yes it’s super easy both ends, not sure why this guy didn’t like that! And his work wasn’t clean at all! It looks like is his fist time using an iron (no a bad thing but no to make a video about it)

I have been searching for months for a video like this. I have the same DENC NUS console type and the same V3 RGB chip and have not found another instruction/video of this quality and depth. Thank you! Will be using this video as my guide. Most likely tomorrow will start!

I completed my mod yesterday, thank you for your video as it was super helpful . Unfortunately I took a wrong turn and like you soldered to DENC even tho I had the VDC chip but that was easily remedied. I love the results, way better than I would have expected

Just did this mod. Noticed the d1 LED is on on initial startup. Not sure what that means but after a while all leds start to flicker. I get sound but no video. Do you happen to know the proper LED function of the chip on how its supposed to respond?

manual switch? V3 works off controller combo and Includes IGR.
@rgbrob
@rgbrob 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, V3 has IGR and Deblur via controller combo. However the deblur can also be controlled via a physical switch, both physical switch and controller combo method can be installed at the same time. I'm simply demonstrating that both ways are possible.

@@rgbrob Deblur works, but it's a bit gimmicky. I was eye balling it on and off just 2 days ago via OSSC into high end 1440P IPS monitor. it •does• deblur a little.. but not much you can do with an N64's graphics output really. CRTs always win verse scaling, even verse pure digital mods. IMO, you only do these things when you don't have room for a decent CRT.

I am really interested in the Component video output having just purchased a Rad2x in the belief it was one of a very few cables I could use. However I have the official Nintendo component cable that was sold for GameCube. Presumably I can use that but how would the picture compare to an RGB cable? Does the chip handle conversion?
@rgbrob
@rgbrob 2 жыл бұрын
The Gamecube component cable is a completely different product, different plug on the console end so it wont plug into the N64 at all. Some scart crt tvs accept component through their scart sockets (I had a Panasonic wide screen crt tv with 3 scart sockets, you could choose on screen if you wanted RGB or component into the scarts). In this case a scart cable from the n64 to the tv would suffice to display component. Not a lot of tvs did this, not here in Australia at least, probably more common in Europe.

@@MitzyAndSadie All good. I've modded N64 consoles for RGB in the past before the V3 board and tested them with the HD retrovision component cables. The cable converts the rgb into component, they look great and work really well in my experience. I like them because they just work, ive never had trouble with them not displaying a picture. I don't theres too much involved converting from rgb to component, I would trust Tim's mod board to do a very good job of it. I probably should do a video demonstrating component out from the N64 now that we are discussing it.

Thanks for your video it is extremely helpful to follow and get a fully working mod! I have an issue I was hoping you would be familiar with, I wired the V3 mod as per here, everything tested perfectly with continuity etc and looks great on the screen, and I see all data LEDs flashing, BUT within a few minutes my console resets and the V3 board only shows the single LED, and at this point the V3 board is really struggling for power from the console, I may see a strained flash but the console needs time off... I can get audio out and maybe a very bad sync image for a second, but I have to disconnect power, leave offline, and start again. At the same time the image and the board cut out so does the reset ability, I assume it resets when it cuts out as it sends a signal to the pin? As the console stops giving the juice to the V3 board I was hoping you would know the mechanism and what actions I would need to take, and what I need to replace or do, Hope I explained it correctly, the mod works perfect and looks amazing, but something cuts power to the board within a few minutes of being online, Thanks again!

haven't experienced this problem. Usually issues present immediately when powering on. Are you using the flat colored ribbon cable that comes with the N64RGB kit? If you were for example, using kynar wire (very very thin wire) it may be inadequate for your ground and 3.3v lines. I would check to see you have sufficient grounding wires hooked up: N64rgb ground wire to the heatsink, ground from n64rgb to pin 5+6 of the multiout, 2 ground points from DAC video chip to the N64RGB. You could also try disabling the rest function and deblur functions, that is to remove the wires that carry these functions completely to eliminate their functionality to help determine what is causing the issue exactly. Your N64 will still output RGB, it is not dependent on deblur or controller reset. Also I take you have all 3 heatsinks and heatsink plate reinstalled? The console can operate for a short time without any heatsinks without damaging it, this is handy for very quick testing.

@reprobite Жыл бұрын
@@rgbrob thanks very much for your reply, I used the flat cable yes I do have Kynar wire and also 24awg solid core copper and I tried to wire with both of those also. That is a good point I will try without the reset and deblur too. Thanks for that idea! I have been measuring the voltage regulators, U12 measures 3.3V but U13 is nearly 7V, I thought it was supposed to measure 5V but I am unsure? Maybe this is the issue if that’s the case
@rgbrob
@rgbrob Жыл бұрын
@@reprobite could be a faulty N64RGB board given that the problem occurs sometime after powering on. I imagine the console should work normally if remove the 3.3v power to the N64rgb board. You could then play the console in composite with a composite cable. This way you would still have 99% of the N64rgb connected to your system (but not active), to see if the console still resets a few minutes in or not.
@reprobite
@reprobite Жыл бұрын
@@rgbrob thanks, I am pretty sure it does run normally even after and I was thinking that the reset was from me having the reset pin wired on the PCB to the RGB board, I will desolder all of those first and run a test to see if that affects anything if it just loses signal and sync then I will know the reset was from the RGB board malfunction. So just unsolder the 3.3V wire from the 12 pin flat cable? I will test if composite works fine after it fails that is a good point. On the 5V regulator running at 7V is that an issue? I have a load of 5V regulator arriving tomorrow so I guess I can test that too.
@rgbrob
@rgbrob Жыл бұрын
@@reprobite composite and rgb will be both outputted at the multiout (provided the trace at pin 9 on the multiout has not been cut, this can be done according to n64rgb installtion for other reasons...). You can use either composite or scart cable at anytime. Its probably easier to desolder the 3.3v wire(s) (yes flat ribbon cable) from the n64rgb end, make sure the floating wire does not touch and short with anything, you may want to put some insulation tape around the exposed end when doing your tests. Doesnt sound right that a 5v regulator is outputting 7v. Im not familiar with the n64rgb boards operation at the component level like that unfortunately.
