There is a dangerous assumption you made. Half the Switch fanbase DOES NOT play the Switch in portability mode. Half the Nintendo base cares about playing on the TV. I almost never play the Switch in handheld mode, as it's uncomfortable and just crap. Battery drains way to damn fast. They can't milk the "Switch" "Hybrid" forever.

@@SunbroNation Very much agreed. They are in a position right now; to become the only console maker to offer a type of backwards compatiblity moving foward; that could be on par with Steam. While Microsoft and Sony have made some VERY STRONG efforts towards backwards compatibility; their philosphies as companies and their end game; makes those efforts a moot point; as they are more likely to go the way of Subcription only and streaming services; offering no type of ownership of games from that point foward (Microsoft especially). Both Sony and Microsoft are multibillion dollar tech/entertianement companies; and could care less about the gaming indsurty, as even if they were to fail; they got their other main businesses to fall back on. Nintendo is a console manufature and game company first and foremost. It is their main way of making money. If they fail at that; they have little to nothing to fall back on (Not even their movies and amusment parks would do it for them; as they are designed as ways to promote their gaming business first; and not the other way around). I strongly felt that since the Switch launched; if they succeeded in the way they did now; they would have taken steps to ensure the best possible gaming propposition to customers; for genrations foward and it seems to be the case. I wasn't always a Nintendo fan (and I still am not a fan of some of their practices); but I trust the gaming industry to them WAAAAYYY MORE than I trust Microsoft and Sony; even when they seemed to be doing things right. The day Microsoft was trying to launch the Xbox One with always online DRM; only to take it back when called out (look up the Angry Joe Major Nelson interview); is when I knew they could NEVER be trusted as they litterally said at the time "The futue is cloud based." And look at what Microsoft is doing RIGHT NOW with their layoffs of major studios they bought as well as their other iniatives comming to fruition. Sony is next to follow this, and it may be that only Nintendo, with their always behind and old way of thinking; will be the ones to stand the test of time.

Definitely remasters/remakes and maybe ports from big consoles, they won't show games for the next gen switch, so, for example rumoured hi-fi rush on the current switch, maybe ports of Xbox games for switch and more

5:53 The 3DS name was actually confusing initially, because the DS itself had multiple iterations: DS, DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL, the last of which had just launched the year prior. “3DS” did not sound like enough of a distinction from the DS family, as many people thought it was merely another iteration of the Nintendo DS, playing the same old games, but with a 3D capability… as opposed to being part of an entirely new family of handhelds with its own exclusive games that are not compatible with the DS.

1:08 This is actually not the case, and has only been true since the Switch. The Wii U was announced in early 2011, fully revealed at E3 2011, and didn’t launch until November 2012. The 3DS was announced in March 2010, revealed June 2010, and launched March 2011. Only recently have they adopted the much quicker strategy of announcing and launching within months, which has worked in their favor. So yes, I think you’re right in that they’ll do this again… just that this idea that “Nintendo always does this” is pretty inaccurate.

If it were named Switch Advance, that would obviously be inspired by the GameBoy advance naming. If it were called Super Nintendo Switch I like that too, because it’d be inspired by Super NES naming. And I think honestly those two sound more like a name that Nintendo would come up with than pulling a PlayStation as you put it. Also, if they called it Switch Attach, leave it to Nintendo to come up with original names for new technology or new variations on that technology. 3DS wasn’t called DS Advance or Super DS after all. And Wii U was what they called the new system advancing Wii technology which I know failed miserably. I hope the switch successor doesn’t end up the failure that the Wii U was.

If they’re calling it a “successor,” it’s probably not going to be what you’re describing. What you’re describing is more akin to the Game Boy Color, DSi, and “New” 3DS. None of these were ever referred to as “successors,” they were just new iterations of the same platform, despite them having slightly beefier hardware and a handful of exclusive games.

It's very likely the new Switch will not come out until Spring 2025. Nintendo will most likely let the OG Switch finish up this year. It's also highly likely that there will be backwards compatibility. nothing wrong with buying the Switch lite if you can get it cheap. And it'll keep you entertained until March 2025. It's still quite a while before we get the new console, and there's no guarantee we'll get on in March. In short, I say go for it 😎

I can understand why Nintendo would stick with the hyped model for their next console, since it has been so successful already…but I would rather see them release a powerful console for a change.
