Very seldom does the catfish world get a new rigs as most the old timers have already thought of it but one angler has ventured outside the box to bring you what I think is a very unique and versatile catfish rig that was designed by a catfish angler again just from the sheer need for the way he fishes. I got a chance to interview professional catfish angler Larry Muse last weekend at the Motel we were staying art for the Monsters on the Ohio Catfish event in Owensboro Ky. and he shared some tips with us that I'm sure will help you as well.

I know I've flat blown this comment section up, but speaking of listening to the older guys, I can't wait to talk to you 2 guys at the catfish conference. Thanks again for this video. I sincerely think this rigs gonna be a game changer for me in the 2016 season. On these winter days, I'm oiling reels, making dragon tails, and building a new livewell for my procrappie, (soon to be procattie) boat!!

I had another dragging rig beside it that just had a regular 3oz "no snag" sinker. That one didn't last 10 minutes and I had to break it off. The dragons tail lasted all day, and landed my biggest fish of the day with it. Thanks alot Larry for sharing, and Steve for posting!!

Larry's rig just shows you there is no all time right way to rig. Its about the variables and what works best at the time and place you are at. Very creative way to rig maybe I will give it a go. Thank you for showing us this Steve and thanks to Larry for sharing his ideas!

Parachute cord "slinky" rigs are similar to this (for salmon/steelhead in rivers) - you can buy kits to make those (use the heaviest shot for catfish, it appears)..... a slinky/Santee rig!....very creative - thanks for sharing. He's showing his lure to more fish than anchoring would, and the float keeps it from getting hung up a bit and won't pull the bait off the hook as often. "Draggin' tail" (he's dragging, and it kind of looks like a dragon's tail): brilliant wording!

I made a few of these rigs after watching this video and have fished them about on 6-8 different trips. They don't get bit very often (I put big baits on them), but when they do, it's gonna be a good fish. Biggest so far was 52 lb blue catfish... in my kayak! These rigs work well and I haven't had any issues breaking them off yet either.

Speaking of old timers, a few years ago I would always launch from Atkin's Landing on Lake Moultrie. It cost a few dollars to launch from there, but there were always a few old dudes hanging around and looking for an ear to chew on. Even if I was itching to get out there on the water, I would say hello and ask if they had heard any reports on the catfish bite. I learned more from those conversations than I did from fishing on my own. Atkin's Landing is gone now, but I still have that knowledge those anglers shared with me. I make an effort to talk and share intel with anybody I run into at the landing these days because of those guys who were so generous with their knowledge. Thanks for sharing with us, Steve!

This is a very interesting rig setup and was wondering how it would work on the rocky ledges around bridges. Most definitely going to make up a couple but keep a good air pocket to see if that will help with the snagging problems we have on the rock ledges when we fish the bridges. Greek fishermen have problems with rocky bottoms which snag the weights when fishing. So many years ago they came up with a solution. Instead of various shaped lead weights they used fine mesh chain, it acts like a snake that slides over the rocks and coral. I have used fine mesh chain for fishing for 30 years. The amount of snags has been very low. My rigs are wrapped on a block of packing rubber foam, where the line is wound around it and the hooks are stuck in the foam. All rigged up and it takes a minute to unwrap and fish.

your right there is just a few ways that catfishermen use as in rigs, me and my girl friend came up with a rig that will change my way of fishing as it out fish my other poles rig with the 3 way and drop shot and slip rig 3 to nothing. Its some thing that may change the catfish world and will get more people to fish. Just trying to find a maker cause this could make it to the stores.

If one ever has the eyescrew back out just file or grind off a flat spot on the screw threads and it won't be able to back out once you add superglue or epoxy.It'll still screw in but once the glue or epoxy is dry it won't be able to turn.

mac byrum on you tube has been making "slinky weights" for catfish on lake norman for years. use the outer shell of nylon rope and it is much more flexible. you use shot and a big straw to put shot in rope, remove the straw and melt ends. use line to add as a tag up to a 3 way. much easier than making this but a good design as well.
@SteveDouglastheCatfishDude
@SteveDouglastheCatfishDude 9 жыл бұрын
+Manning the Outdoors i will agree with you sir, no doubt but if you watched the video you will find this is not a slinky rig weight as the slinky weight is not 30 inches long and dont trap air in it to help lift it over heavy cover and snags. this is an aquarium hose with trapped air and weight on the bottom which just glides over snags.

Hey Steve...Was jus sitting here watchn sum of your videos and noticed that you use same ounce sinkers in current as you do in no current and was wondering why that is ?? I Know its to keep your bait down in swifter water but why not a lighter ounce sinker in calmer water ?? Thank you and keep up the good work.
